Frequently Asked Questions - SOUND SYSTEM MODEL XS GENEVA

Why won't my mobile phone connect via Bluetooth?

Make sure your phone's Bluetooth is on and the XS model is in Bluetooth mode (press M until "Blue" appears). If pairing fails, bring the devices closer and enter PIN 0000 if prompted. Visit www.genevalab.com for specific guides.

How to charge the battery of the XS model?

Insert the battery into the rear compartment, connect the cable to the white connector, then close the cover. Connect the mains adapter to the "DC 5.5V" jack. The initial charge must last at least 8 hours.

How to set the alarm?

Turn on the device, press the alarm setting key (). The letter "A" flashes. Use ◀ and ▶ to choose the time, then press the key again to confirm. The alarm will sound on FM radio if FM mode is active, otherwise on an audible signal.

How to check the battery status?

A dot in the lower right corner of the screen indicates: on = battery full, flashing = charging. If the battery is low, the screen displays "low" and "batt".

What to do if the screen shows "low" and "batt"?

This means the battery is very low. Plug in the mains adapter to charge the battery. Wait a few minutes before turning on the device.

Why does the XS model turn off automatically?

The device turns off automatically after one minute if it is not in the correct position (case open and properly tilted). Refer to the figure under "Power on" in the manual.

The XS model does not turn on when I press the Power key.

Press the ○ key with one finger, without touching the rest of the touch screen. If the battery is drained, plug in the mains adapter and wait a moment.

How to listen to FM radio?

Press M until an FM frequency appears (e.g., 103.2). Use ◀ and ▶ to change stations (click: 0.1 MHz; hold: automatic search).

Can I use the XS model with a non-Bluetooth device?

Yes, connect a 3.5 mm line input cable to the rear jack. Press M until "Line" appears. Connect the other end to the headphone output of the audio device.

How to clean the XS model?

Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or abrasive products. Unplug the device before cleaning.

Use the original power adapter: Only use the supplied original power adapter to power and charge the Geneva Sound System. Other power adapters might look similar, but using them could result in electric shock and could damage the Geneva Sound System.

Charging the Battery

1. Once the battery is in place, plug the power adapter cord into your Model XS ("DC 5.5V").

For maximum battery life, charge the battery at least 8 hours continuously when using your Model XS for the first time.

Turning the Power On

1. Open the case.

2. Insert the two hooks of the top cover into the Model XS.

When the Model XS is not in the correct position, it will automatically turn off to save battery power.

Inserting the Rechargeable Battery

1. Open the case and turn your Model XS so you can access the battery compartment on the back.
2. Plug the battery cable into the small white connector in the upper left corner of the battery compartment.
3. Place the battery into the back compartment. Carefully fold the cable next to the battery.
4. Take the lid and push it until it snaps in.

USING MODEL XS

FM Radio

1. Touch M until the display shows an FM frequency, for example "103.2".
2. Select an FM station with ◀ and ▶:
3. Use a single touch: change frequency by 0.1 MHz.
4. Hold down for a short time: automatically search for another station.

DAB / DAB+ (Model XS DAB+ only)

1. Touch M until the display shows DAB.
2. Select a DAB station with ◀ and ▶. Model XS DAB+ is compatible with DAB, DAB+, DMR and DMB.
   When using your Model XS for the first time, the radio needs to find available radio stations in your region (done with the “Scan” function). After a scan, the stations will be automatically stored

- Within 5 seconds of entering DAB mode, hold down the ▶ button until "Scan" displays.

“Scan” is also needed after traveling to a new location with different radio stations, or when you move the radio to a different room where there is different radio reception.

Line-In

1. Connect one end of the supplied Line-In cable to the audio device (headphone or Line-Out plug).
2. Connect the other end of the cable to the Line-In plug on the back of Model XS.
3. Touch M until the display shows"Line".

Bluetooth

Mobile phones and computers with Bluetooth can connect to the Model XS and play music. The mobile phone or computer must support Bluetooth A2DP.

Initial Setup ("pairing") With iPhone®

1. Touch the M key until the display shows "Blue". Wait for 20 seconds until the display shows a blinking "P".
2. Select “settings” on your iPhone®. Select “General / Bluetooth”. Turn on Bluetooth. New Bluetooth devices are discovered automatically. After a few seconds “Geneva XS Sound System (Not Paired)” will appear.
3. Select "Geneva XS Sound System". The phone is now connecting ("pairing") to the Model XS.
4. If the phone asks for a PIN: enter "0000" (four zeros).
5. Now you can play music on an iPhone® App “iPod” and listen to it on the Model XS.

Playing Music

Most phones connect automatically to the Model XS after the initial setup (“pairing”).

1. Touch the M key on your Model XS until the display shows "Blue". When Model XS connects, the display shows "C" for a few seconds.
2. Play music on the mobile phone, music will start playing on Model XS automatically after a few seconds.

S: Searching for previously paired devices.
C: Connection successful.
P: Pairing. If Model XS did not make a successful connection within 20 seconds, Model XS will go into the pairing mode for 2 minutes.

ALARM

Setting the Alarm

1. Turn on Model XS, then touch 🔊: a blinking “A” appears on the display.
2. Set the desired alarm time using ◀ and ▶.
3. Touch ♠ again to save the alarm time. "A" indicates alarm is now on.
4. Touch ○ to turn Model XS off.

Turning the Alarm On And Off

Turn off Model XS, then touch any key on the touch panel to toggle the alarm. "A" on the display indicates the alarm is on.

Muting the Alarm

Touch any key on the touch panel to mute the alarm. The alarm will automatically turn off after 20 minutes if no key on the touch panel is touched.

Selecting the Alarm Sound

There are two alarm sounds: FM radio and a beeping sound. If you set the alarm and the current mode is FM, the FM radio will play when the alarm goes off. Otherwise the beeping sound is used.

Setting the Clock

1. Turn on Model XS, then touch ⚙. The letter “C” starts blinking on the display.
2. Use ◀ and ▶ to set the current time.
3. Touch ⬇ to complete the procedure.

AM/PM Display (US Version Only)

The dot to the right of the minute digits indicates AM or PM:

• Off: AM
• On: PM

TROUBLESHOOTING

Why is my mobile phone not connecting? You will find more detailed information on various mobile phones on the Support pages at www.genevalab.com.

The Model XS will not turn on, the display shows "low" and "batt".

“low” and “batt” means low battery. Connect the power adapter to the Model XS and the battery will begin charging. You can use the Model XS within a few minutes.

The Model XS will not turn on, nothing happens.

If the battery is very low, there is too little power to turn on the display, even if the power adapter is connected. Model XS can be turned on after it has been connected for a few to the power adapter.

Why is the Model XS turning off after a while?

After one minute the device will automatically turn itself off, when it is not in the correct position (see figure in “Turning the Power On”).

The Model XS does not turn on when I touch the ○ button.

Touch ○ with one finger only. Don't touch the rest of the touch panel with other fingers. The touch panel works properly when used with one finger only.

What is the PIN for a Bluetooth connection?

The PIN is: 0000 (4 zeros). Not all computers or mobile phones require a pin code during the initial setup (pairing).

I have an unreliable connection with dropouts when listening via Bluetooth.

• Move the mobile phone closer to the Model XS.
• Move away or turn off other wireless devices that can disturb a Bluetooth connection (for example WLAN / Wifi, other mobile phones etc.).

How do I know if the battery is charging?

A small dot on the lower right of the display blinks slowly if the battery is being charged.

How can I check the battery charge?

A dot on the lower right corner of the display shows the battery status:

• On: battery fully charged.
• Blinking: battery is charging.

If the battery is low, the display will also show "low" and "batt". In this case the Model XS will automatically turn off, but it still has enough power to show the time for a while.

Why is the alarm not working when the case is closed?

The alarm does not work in this position because the device power is off. However, the clock is still running.
