Product benefits The FMH 6050 enables you to transmit stereo sound signals from your hi-fi system, your television or other audio source cordlessly. As the radio waves in question have a frequency of approx. 863 MHz, they can be received within a radius of up to 100 metres, and also through walls and ceilings. However, the actual range depends on surrounding conditions (e.g. location of transmitter, type of building or atmospheric conditions). Using the receiver integrated in the headphones, you can move around freely both indoors and outdoors. Important information Please read these operating instructions carefully and keep them in a safe place. Do not use the devices in water or rain. The AC adaptors are designed for these devices only. Do not use the supplied AC adaptors with other devices. Avoid exposure to extreme heat or strong light. Do not open the housings or the AC adaptors (danger of electric shock!). Check whether the local mains voltage corresponds to the voltage indicated on the AC adaptor. Avoid touching the battery or charging contacts. Do not touch the contacts with metal objects. Do not cover the devices (e.g. with a towel, sheet, etc.) Clean the devices using a moist cloth and never use aggressive cleaning agents. Constant use at high volumes impairs your hearing and may cause permanent damage. Do not dispose of this product with the domestic waste; take it to your local electronic waste recycling depot. Description of operating elements Transmitter (A) 1 Power-on lamp A red lamp tells you when the appliance is ready to transmit. This lamp comes on only when the audio source emits a signal. 2 Battery pack charge indicator This lamp lights green when the battery pack charge lead (H) is connected to the battery pack charge socket (B11) on the headphones and on the transmitter (A6). 3 Frequency selector switch Using this switch you can alter the transmission frequency in order to prevent over lapping with other transmitters (channel 1, 2 or 3). 4 Audio input socket The transmitter can be connected to the sound source (e.g. CD player, cassette player, television, etc.) using the audio cable (E). 5 Low voltage socket Connect the AC adapter (C) here for the transmitter's power supply. 6 Battery pack charge socket Using this socket and the charge lead you can recharge the battery packs of the headphones without having to remove them from the battery pack compartment.

Headphones (B) with integrated receiver 7 On/Off switch Slide the switch to the "ON" position to switch on and to the "OFF" position to switch off. 8 Volume control You can adjust the volume of your headphones individually. You can tell when the volume is too loud by distinct sound distortion or the high sound pressure of the music reproduction. This does not make for pleasant listening! Protect your hearing - Vivanco headphones sound particularly good, even at low volumes.

Tuning knob Use the tuning knob to set the headphones to the channel you have selected (A3) (see section 4.2).

10 Power-on lamp This lamp comes on red when the headphones are switched on and ready to use. When the fine adjustment (tuning) of the transmitter is optimal, this lamp lights green. If the lamp does not light, you must first charge the battery packs. 11 Battery pack charge socket Connector socket for the battery pack charge lead. 12 Battery pack compartment The two AAA batteries included with the set are inserted in this compartment.

Connections / setting up components

1. Power supply unit for the transmitter (C)

Connect the power supply lead to the socket (A5) provided on the back of the transmitter. Then plug the AC adapter into the mains socket.

2. Connection to the audio source

If your audio source is fitted with a jack socket (e.g. for headphones), use the audio lead provided (E). Connect one end of the lead to the headphones socket and the other to the audio input socket (A4) on the transmitter. If the jack plug is too small for the headphones socket, you can use the adapter (G) from 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm jack plug.

If your hi-fi or TV is not fitted with a headphones socket you can also use the phono output (AUX) by means of the Y adapter. Make sure that plug and socket colours are matched correctly (right = red, left = white). The connection lines used (e.g. audio cable) should not be longer than 3 metres. Now switch on your audio source (TV, hi-fi system, etc.), making sure that it is emitting an audio signal. When using adjustable headphone sockets, make sure that these are turned up high enough (roughly in the middle position). The transmission function is indicated by the red power-on lamp (A1). Please note The transmitter automatically switches itself off when there is no audio signal for a prolonged period or the input signal is too weak. The transmitter automatically switches itself back on when there is an audio signal.

Headphones as receiver

1. Switch on the headphones (B7). Watch the power-on lamp (B10). If this comes on

red, your radio headphones are ready to operate. If this lamp does not come on, you must first recharge the battery packs for the headphones (see section 5.1).

2. Adjust the volume control (B8) to a medium setting and put on the headphones. First,

turn the tuning knob (B9) in one direction until you feel it catch. Then turn the tuning knob (B9) slowly in the other direction until you can hear a clear sound signal (speech or music). Your headphones are now set to the transmission frequency (A3) that you previously set on the transmitter (section 4.1). When the fine tuning of the transmitter is optimal, the power-on lamp (B10) lights green.

3. Still wearing the headphones, move approx. 3 metres away from the transmitter. If

you receive interference or other transmitters, turn the tuning knob (B9) again.

4. After use, switch the On/Off switch (B7) on the headphones to "Off".

Please note You should now be able to move from room to room wearing the headphones without any reception interference Should the signal break off or be disturbed, fine-tune the transmission frequency again by turning the tuning knob (B9) (see section 4.2.3). When receiving over long distances, the signal becomes gradually weaker. This is indicated by an increase in background noise and the sound signal becoming almost inaudible. Disturbances could possibly be caused by other appliances or interference. You should then select a different frequency (A3) and repeat steps 4.2.2 and 4.2.3.

Charging the rechargeable batteries supplied

1. The FMH 6050 comes with 2 rechargeable batteries (of the Micro AAA type), to be

charged before you use your new appliance for the first time.

2. First switch off the headset (B7).

3. Connect the battery-charger cable with the charging socket of the sender (A5), and of

the headset (B11). The charging indicator LED of the sender (A2) is lit with green light.

4. Prior to first operation, the batteries have to be charged during approximately 14

hours. After this initial charge, the batteries will remain fully charged for about 8 hours. Please note that the batteries will reach their full capacity, and thereby the operation time stated, only after the third charging operation. Useful hints on battery maintenance Perfect maintenance of your rechargeable batteries requires that you discharge / recharge them about once per month with an appropriate charger. For this purpose, we recommend chargers of the Vivanco product line. Regularly used, these appliances provide for longer useful life of your rechargeable batteries.

Using batteries (rechargeable or one-way) The wireless headset can also be supplied with commercially available rechargeable or non-rechargeable 1.5V batteries of the AAA type. However, the built-in charging feature does not support charging standard AAA Micro batteries.

1. First switch off the headset (B7).

2. Open the battery compartment (B12).

3. Replace used batteries with new or charged ones, making sure that you observe the

correct polarity (refer to the symbols at the battery compartment bottom). Disposing of the batteries (rechargeable and one-way) Consider the environment when disposing of rechargeable or non-rechargeable batteries, which are not to be disposed of with household refuse. Take them to your local collection point. Do not mix old and new batteries or different battery types.

Solution Make sure that the On/Off switch (B7) on the headphones is in the "ON" position. Are the power-on lamps on the transmitter (A1) and the headphones (B10) constantly lit? Check whether the AC adapter (C) is correctly connected and check the condition of the battery packs. Details in sections 4 and 5. Check whether the audio source is switched on and emitting a signal. Have you connected the transmitter to the audio source? If you are operating via an adjustable headphones socket on your audio source, make sure that it is turned up high enough (e.g. to about the middle setting). Use the frequency selection control (A3) to change to a different transmission frequency. Reset the transmitter again (section 4.2.2). Make sure that the interference is not being caused by your audio source. In certain cases it may be necessary to alter the position of the transmitter horizontally and/or vertically. Check the power-on lamp (B10). See section 5. Do not place the transmitter directly in front of a television set, but at a distance of approx. 1 m. Transmitter switches itself off Increase the volume at the headphones socket or the phono output of your audio source. Licence This Vivanco RF product conforms to the European R&TTE directive for RF systems in harmonised frequency ranges. These systems may be sold and operated in the EU and in EFTA countries. Operation is not permitted in any countries not named. The declaration of conformity is included at the end of this manual. Warranty The FMH 6050 is subject to a strict quality inspection in order to guarantee maximum functionality. However, a technical defect can never be entirely ruled out. Should a claim nevertheless arise, you will immediately receive a replacement for your defective device from your specialist dealer, provided that the following points are observed: The warranty period is 24 months from the date of purchase. The headphones system must be complete as described in the enclosed instruction manual. Only if the above points are observed can the device be exchanged immediately by your specialist dealer. If the above points are not observed, Vivanco will naturally honour a warranty of 24 months from the date of purchase in accordance with legal warranty requirements. The following are not covered by any form of guarantee: devices tampered with by non-authorised persons damage caused by improper handling of the devices, failure to observe the instructions and damage caused by leaking batteries. As a quality product the FMH 6050 naturally meets all national and European licence regulations in the licensed countries.
