Frequently Asked Questions - CMP601 BLAUPUNKT

How do I descale the Blaupunkt CMP601?
Mix a descaling solution (vinegar and water 1:2 or commercial descaler) and fill the water tank. Run the machine without coffee grounds. After the cycle, let it sit for 15 minutes. Then run 2-3 cycles with fresh water to rinse. Refer to the descaling indicator for frequency.
Why is my coffee weak or watery?
Weak coffee can be caused by too coarse grind, not enough coffee grounds, or a clogged filter. Use a finer grind (if built-in grinder) or increase the amount of ground coffee. Also check that the permanent filter is clean and not overfilled.
How do I programme the timer for auto brew?
Press the Timer button until the clock icon flashes. Use the +/- buttons to set the desired time. Confirm by pressing the Timer button again. Fill the water tank and add coffee grounds. The machine will start at the set time. Ensure the clock is set correctly first.
What does the flashing red light mean?
A flashing red light indicates a descaling or maintenance alert. Check the manual for specific patterns. Generally, it means the machine needs descaling or the water tank is empty. If descaling, follow the descaling procedure.
Can I use paper filters with the CMP601?
Yes, the machine accepts both a permanent mesh filter and paper filters (size #4). Place the paper filter inside the filter basket before adding ground coffee. This can help with cleaner coffee and easier cleanup.
How often should I clean the machine?
Clean the detachable parts (carafe, filter basket, drip tray) after each use. Descale every 1-3 months depending on water hardness. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the base in water.
Why does the machine stop mid-brew?
Common reasons: water tank empty, overheating protection activated, or a timer pause. Check the water level and refill if low. If too hot, let it cool down for 10 minutes. Also ensure the carafe is properly placed to prevent anti-drip valve from stopping flow.
Is the carafe dishwasher safe?
Yes, the glass carafe and the removable parts (filter basket, drip tray) are dishwasher safe. However, the heating plate and base should not be immersed. Hand wash the permanent filter to maintain its mesh.
Where can I download the user manual?
You can download the PDF manual for free from notice-facile.com or the official Blaupunkt support site. On notice-facile.com, select your language and enter your email to receive a translated version. The manual includes detailed instructions and troubleshooting.
What is the warranty period for the CMP601?
Blaupunkt offers a 2-year warranty for manufacturing defects. Keep your proof of purchase. The warranty does not cover damage from descaling neglect or improper cleaning. Register your product on the Blaupunkt website for extended warranty options.

Before the first use

Wash filters, water tank and milk container, filter holder, and milk-frothing nozzle, with water and dishwashing liquid.

It is recommended to rinse (see "cleaning and maintenance") the coffee machine before the first use, and after a long period of non-use.

WARNING: when the water system is empty, the pump makes loud noises while sucking water in, and the coffee machine might vibrate. This is a normal occurrence.

Starting the coffee machine

Before starting the coffee machine, make sure that there is water in the water tank, and that the milk carafe is filled with milk if you intend to make milk coffee.

Select the appropriate filter, place it in the holder, and fill with coffee. Lock the filter holder in the head (turn the handle to the left, according to the symbol printed on the rim of the head, and then turn it to the right, perpendicular to the front of the machine - see drawing).

RECOMMENDATION 1. The coffee should not be too finely ground (as is the case for Turkish coffee) so that it does not block the flow of water in the filter. Too coarsely ground coffee makes the brew less aromatic.

RECOMMENDATION 2. If the coffee is too firmly tamped, it can block the flow of water in the filter, giving the brew a scorched flavour. Too loosely tamped coffee makes the brew less aromatic.

Select the appropriate drip tray grille: the flat tray grille is suitable for two cups, while the concave/convex grille can be used for a tall cup or a shallower one.

Connect the appliance to the power supply by inserting the plug into the socket.

Press the switch to start the appliance. The control panel buttons will start flashing.

After the coffee machine heats up, the available-function buttons will be highlighted.

Preparing an espresso

  1. Place the cup(s) under the filter-holder outlet openings.
  2. Press the "Single Espresso" or "Double Espresso" button, and wait for the coffee brew to stop flowing.

Customising the size of the brewed coffee

The amount of coffee can be customised. To set the preferred size, press and hold the "Double Espresso" button for 3 seconds. The coffee machine beeps and starts preparing the coffee. Press the button again to stop brewing the coffee at the desired size. If you do not press the button, the coffee machine will make the maximum amount of coffee (approx. 240 ml).

Preparing milk coffees

  1. Place the cup/mug under the filter-holder outlet openings.
  2. Point the milk nozzle into the cup using the frothing-nozzle tilt lever.
  3. Press the "Single/Double Espresso" or "Single/Double Latte" button and wait for the milk and coffee brew to stop flowing.
  4. After making the milk coffee drink, the milk carafe can be removed and put in the fridge.

Preparing frothed milk

To prepare more frothed milk for your coffee or just froth milk for a drink, press and hold the "Double Cappuccino" button for 3 seconds. The coffee machine will start frothing milk until you press the button again.

Adjusting the milk-frothing intensity

Use the frothing-control lever to adjust the milk frothing intensity. Move the lever to the left to decrease the intensity, or move the lever to the right to increase the intensity.

Sleep mode

The coffee machine goes into sleep mode after 25 minutes of inactivity. Press the "Cleaning" button to resume operation. The coffee machine will start to heat up and will be ready to use after a moment.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Rinsing the coffee machine

  1. Place the filter holder in the filter-holder head.
  2. Start the coffee machine.
  3. When the coffee machine heats up and is ready to use, rinse the coffee machine's water system.

Press the "Single Espresso" button and wait for the water to stop flowing.

Rinsing the milk-frothing system

The milk frothing system should be regularly and frequently rinsed. Milk quickly sours and leaves deposits.

To rinse the milk-frothing system

  1. Empty the milk carafe. Remove the milk-carafe cover. Rinse it in water with dishwashing liquid.
  2. Fill the milk container with water and insert it into the coffee machine.
  3. Place a vessel under the milk-frothing nozzle.
  4. Press the Cleaning button. Hot water with steam will start flowing through the system.
  5. Empty the milk container when the process is complete.

Regular cleaning of the coffee machine after each use

Before cleaning, make sure that the coffee machine has cooled down and is disconnected from the power supply.

  1. Remove the filter holder by turning it to the left (clockwise). Remove the coffee from the filter and rinse it well.
  2. Remove the drip-tray grille and also the drip tray. Both these items can be washed with water and dishwashing liquid.
  3. Never immerse the appliance in water. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth, then wipe dry with a dry cloth.

Periodic descaling of the coffee machine

Depending on the water hardness, the descaling process must be carried out every 2-3 months (40-80 uses).

Regular descaling ensures that the appliance is well protected and positively affects the taste and aroma of the brewed drinks.

WARNING: failure to descale the appliance has a negative impact on its operation, and can lead to damage. Failure to descale the appliance regularly will void the warranty.

Before descaling, make sure that the device is disconnected from the power supply.

1) Prepare a descaling solution by adding 250 ml of liquid descaler for coffee machines to approximately 500 ml of lukewarm water (use the ratio suggested by the maker of the descaling product). Pour the solution into the water tank and the milk carafe. 2) Insert the filter holder with the filter in place into the coffee machine head. Place a larger vessel on the drip tray and point the milk-frothing nozzle into it. 3) Connect the device to the power supply. 4) Switch the coffee machine on. When the appliance is ready, press and hold the Double Espresso button for 3 seconds. Wait for the water to flow. Perform this operation twice. 5) When the appliance is ready again, press and hold the Double Cappuccino button for 3 seconds. Wait for the water and steam to flow. Perform this operation twice. 6) Rinse the coffee-machine tank and carafe thoroughly after descaling. Afterwards, cycle clean water through the coffee machine twice. Fill the water tank with clean water and repeat steps 2-5.
