2. Setup instructions
The QPSK-PAL UFO 394 twin transponder is set up via the central controller for the UFG 3xx base unit.
The following instructions apply generally:
To view the software versions of the boot loader, controller and channel unit, press the three “<<”, “>>” and “?” buttons simultaneously
■ Select a desired parameter using the cursor buttons “→” or “←”
■ The selected parameter will fl ash
■ To move to another editable parameter, press the Up-/Down-Scroll buttons (+"/"-"
When inputting the satellite frequency and the symbol rate, it is easiest to input each decimal point separately. To do this, first select the respective parameter using the cursor buttons “→” or “←”, then press the cursor buttons “→” and “←” simultaneously. Now the desired position of the decimal point can be activated using one of the cursor buttons. The scroll button can be used to move the respective position of the decimal point. Normal operating mode can be resumed by once again pressing the cursor buttons “→” and “←”

■ New channel unit data should be saved by pressing the red "Save" button only once the module has successfully completed its acquisition procedure and the TV channels found are shown in the display. If the settings are changed but not saved, after about 10 minutes the channel unit will revert to its original parameters. From pressing the Memory button "M", the time to perform the save is approx. 3 seconds.
2.1 Selecting the signal input and the twin unit

Select the parameter "Twin unit".
Switch over to displaying the desired twin unit with “<<” or “>>”.
Press the "☐" button to call up the sub-menu with:

■ The type designation of the module including display of the twin unit that the controller is addressing
■ Display of the "A/B" input being used by the two twin units I and II – use the scroll buttons to change over between A and B
■ Selection of the DiSEqC™ signal to be sent via the HF "B" socket
Press the “☐” sub-menu key to return to the main menu.
2.2 Selecting input frequency

Select the parameter "Input frequency" and set it between 950-2150 MHz in 1-MHz steps (using the scroll button or by inputting the figures)
Press the “☐” button to call up the sub-menu with:

2.3 Selecting the input symbol rate

Select the "Symbol rate" parameter.
Set the desired symbol rate between 2.000 and 45.000 MS/s. Setting is by using the scroll button or by inputting the figures.

This menu is active only is the same slot for decrypting the channel is selected on Twin 1 and Twin 2 (multiple decryption using a CAM). Conditional Access Modules (CAM) manage a list of channels to be decrypted (in the form of entries called CA-PMTs). Where a CAM is required to decrypt several channels, the list can be transferred in either of two different forms. However not all CAMs support both types of transfer. The two types are called "Only-Add-Add (oaa)" and "First-More-More-Last (fmml)" in the UFO®compact controller and the USW 30 software. Therefore it is necessary to set the type of transfer to be used separately for each CAM.

PMT change "normal" and "optimised":
Every now and again certain management information that is required for decrypting a channel (PMT) may change. This changed information must be communicated to the CAM. One procedure for doing this, which here we call “normal”, consists of sending the complete channel list with the updated management information afresh to the CAM. This succeeds with any CAM, but can lead to short-term loss of picture for all the channels to be decrypted. Some CAMs support the transfer of the changed management information for each individual channel (list update), without affecting the other channels that require decryption (“optimised” procedure). If the option is activated inadvertently or by mistake it can however lead to loss of picture for one or all the channels to be decrypted for an indefinite period of time (e.g. until the channel unit is next restarted).

If the radio transmitter is switched on, the name of the radio channel for display on the screen can be selected:

Select the parameter "Output channel" for the PAL signal. Use the scroll buttons to set the output channel in 7 MHz or 8 MHz steps from 111.25 MHz to 847.25 MHz (depending on the standard). Under the TV standards D/K and I, channel display for special channels is performed by “---”.
Press the sub-menu button “☐” to display the sub-menu “Special settings for cable signals”.

"Auto", "Mono", "Stereo", "2-channel", "2-channel A" and "2-channel B"

- In "Auto" the audio mode is set by the SAT signal
- In "2-channel A" only channel 1 is transmitted during 2-channel reception
- In "2-channel B" only channel 2 is transmitted during 2-channel reception

"Internal"
Video and audio signals are through connected internally within the unit. External switching voltages (+12 V), e.g. from a video recorder, can be used to switch over the AV interface (disconnecting the signal path within the unit). Examples of use: Operation with video recorder or video camera.
"External"
The signal path within the unit is disconnected, external switching voltages have no effect on A/V signal sources which can supply no switching voltages. Both operating modes can be selected independently for video and audio.
3. Software Update
The operating software for the channel can be updated locally.
To do this, a PC, a null modem cable for COM 1/2 and an interface adapter with connection cable for connection to the UFO 394 controller are required.
The reference source for this is the respective Kathrein sales centre or the respective agent for the country.
The update program and the latest firmware for the module can be downloaded from the homepage of the Kathrein Service Centre ESC at "http://www.esc-kathrein.de".
Attention:
Software can be updated during reception of programmes. The programme that is running is merely interrupted for about 5 seconds at the end of the update. If the module is removed or mains power is lost during an update, this does not permanently damage the module. The update simply must be repeated.
