Safety instructions

Important:
The power capacity of the power supply units that have been approved for the operation of the UFO 378/TP is not sufficient for full use with the UFO 378/TP.
During the process the following should be taken into account:
- The current capacity for each base unit may not be exceeded! Note the details given on the type plates and the maximum values in the data sheets of the units that are used. The amount of power consumption by the units depends on the conditions of operation and use.
- A UFO 378/TP takes up two slots in the base unit (rack).
The slot to the right next to a UFO 378/TP may not be occupied so as to ensure that heat can escape (see the illustration).
• Each UFO 378/TP is to be operated with a separate power cable!
The plug that is not used in each case is to be plugged into the reserved attachment point (see illustration).
- The UFO 378/TP may only be used in units with forced ventilation (e.g. UFG 412, UFG 406).
- The fuse module (BN 1683186) may not be used. The power consumption of the UFO 378/TP exceeds the permitted rated current of the fuse module. Please remove the fuse modules from the power supply line before you install it. The UFO 378/TP has internal fusing.

WARNING HOT SURFACES DO NOT TOUCH
In operation at high ambient temperatures the heat sink of the UFO 378/TP can reach temperatures of more than 70° C. Take the corresponding care when working with the unit under such conditions.
- Close off the unit with the front cover when using the head-end in rooms that are open to the public.
The front cover UFZ 412/D is available as an option under part number 20610098.

Setup instructions
The setting of the 8-way transmodulator DVB-S(2)-QAM (QPSK/8PSK on QAM) is done through the UFG 300 hand controller. Required controller software version: from version V9.70
For setting up, connect the controller to the module (contains channel units 11 to 8).
The buttons specified below apply to the hand controller (see also the instructions for the UFG 300 hand controller).
Note: The settings and numerical values shown below are intended as an example and do not necessarily match the delivery status.
The desired channel unit (1 to 8) is selected using the “<<” or “>>” buttons.
The desired parameter is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons.
The selected parameter flashes in the display.
The setting is performed using the "+" and "-" buttons and where necessary using the "Change setting mode" button
The sub-menus are activated and deactivated by pressing the "Sub-menu" button
Finally, press "M" to save the setting in the module.
Note: If the controller is disconnected from the module by pressing the "M" button without saving the settings, after around 20 minutes the settings that had last been saved in the module become active again.

(*) Left of "TP":
Indicates "desired operating mode not yet reached", displayed continuously in the event of an error.
If the indicator (*) is flashing, the channel unit cannot reach its proper operating mode.
The reasons for this include:
• Input frequency or symbol rate set incorrectly
• No input signal
• Front end not clicked into place
Right of "Outp.":
The channel unit output is switched off.
(!) The exclamation mark indicates that the settings of the output symbol rate and QAM stage is not sufficient for processing the input data rate (i.e. the input data rate is greater than the output data rate).
• without the programme filter a defective output signal will be output
• with the programme filter the data rate can be sufficiently reduced by filtering out individual programmes.
The exclamation mark indicates here that the user should check the correct operation
(P) Left of "TP":
The "P" indicates that the programme filter is activated and that some programmes may be removed from the transport stream.

1. Configuration of the channel unit
1.1 Selecting the channel unit 1 to 8
The display always relates to one of the eight channels processed by the module (O1 to O8). First select the channel for which you wish to change the settings.

1.2 Selecting the input socket
The socket A or B to be used for the input can be selected in the sub-menu for the selected channel unit. Pressing the "Sub-menu" button [icon] displays the sub-menu and pressing the sub-menu button again exits it.

1.3 Selecting input frequency
The input frequency in the active channel unit is selected using the "<" and ">” buttons. The input frequency can be set continuously from 950 MHz to 2150 MHz in 1 MHz steps using the "+" and "-" buttons.

The current SNR and the automatically detected operating mode, DVB-S or DVB-S2 of the front end are displayed in the input frequency sub-menu.

1.4 Selecting the input symbol rate

The input symbol rate is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons.
Using the "+" and "-" buttons the input symbol rate can be set continuously in steps of 0.1 MS/s:
DVB-S1 QPSK from 2.0 MS/s to 45 MS/s
DVB-S2 QPSK from 1.0 MS/s to 34 MS/s
DVB-S2 8PSK from 1.0 MS/s to 28.9 MS/s
The digits can also be entered individually to a resolution of 0.001 MS/s:
- Press the "Change setting mode" button 📄 (starts mode)
- The first digit flashes and can be input directly using the buttons on the keyboard
• After the first digit has been input, the second flashes, and so on - To make a correction, press the "Back" button to skip one place to the left
- After the last digit has been set, press the "Change setting mode" button 📄 to end the mode
Note: The code rate (e.g. 3/4) is automatically determined once the channel unit has locked on to the set transponder. If an exclamation mark "1" is displayed for the output symbol rate, the output symbol rate or QAM stage must be changed to ensure proper operation of the unit.
1.5 Selecting output channel or output frequency
The output channel unit is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons. You can use the "+" and "-" buttons to adjust the channel from 48 to 96 MHz and 114 to 858 MHz in 8 MHz increments.

In the Output channel sub-menu the output frequency can be fine-tuned in steps of 250 kHz in the ranges 47 to 97 MHz and 113 to 862 MHz. Pressing the "Sub-menu" button displays the sub-menu and pressing the sub-menu button again exits it.
1.6 Selecting the output level
The output level is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons.

The output level can be adjusted in 40 steps from level maximum ("0") to minimum ("-40") using the output channel sub-menu. Pressing the "Sub-menu" button displays the sub-menu and pressing the sub-menu button again exits it. The output level is selected using the "<" and ">” buttons and adjusted using the "+" and "-" buttons.

The output channel unit is selected using the "<" and ">" buttons.

The output can be switched on and off using the output channel sub-menu.
The following settings are possible: on or off
Pressing the "Sub-menu" button ☐ displays the sub-menu and pressing the sub-menu button again exits it. The output is selected using the "<" and ">” buttons and adjusted using the "+" and "-" buttons. When the output is switched off an indicator (*) is shown in the main menu, on the left beside the output channel.
If any channel unit (O1 to O8) is not used, then its output signal must be switched off.
1.8 Selecting the output symbol rate
The output symbol rate is selected using the "<" and ">" buttons.

The output symbol rate can be adjusted continuously from 1.5 MS/s to 7.15 MS/s in 0.001 MS/s steps using the "+" and "-" buttons. The digits can also be entered individually to a resolution of 0.001 MS/s:
- Press the "Change setting mode" button 📄 (starts mode)
- The first digit flashes and can be input directly using the buttons on the keyboard
• After the first digit has been input, the second flashes, and so on - To make a correction, press the "Back" button to skip one place to the left
- After the last digit has been set, press the "Change setting mode" button 📋 to end the mode
1.9 Selecting the QAM stage
The output signal QAM stage is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons.

Select the desired QAM using the "+" and "-" buttons. QAM stages 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 are available.
Note:
If different QAM stages are available, it is advantageous to set the lower stage (e.g. if 256 and 64 are available, then select 64). If an exclamation mark “!” is shown beside the output symbol rate (i.e. the input data rate is too large for the set output data rate), the output symbol rate or the QAM stage must be increased to ensure correct operation.
1.10 Selecting the modulation signal for the QAM modulator
The modulation signal (modus) for the QAM modulator is selected in the QAM stage sub-menu.
The output signal QAM stage is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons.
Pressing the "Sub-menu" button 📋 displays the sub-menu and pressing the sub-menu button again exits it.
The QAM mode is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons and set using the "+" and "-" buttons.

The following settings are available:

PRBS
Normal mode, the satellite input signal is transmodulated. If there is a fault on the input signal, only fill bytes (0xFF) will be modulated
Test mode. The QAM signal is modulated with the PRBS-23 sequence.

CW
Test mode. Sine-wave signal for levelling using simple signal meters.

"Transport stream processor" sub-menu
The "Filter" programme filter operating mode is selected in the TP (Transport stream processor) sub-menu.
The "TP" transport stream processor is selected using the "<" and ">” buttons and the sub-menu is called up using the "Sub-menu" button. The "Filter" programme filter is selected using the "<" and ">” buttons and is activated/deactivated using the "+" and "-" buttons. The settings available are: Filter "on" / "off".
This sub-menu can be exited only when the cursor is on the "on / off" parameter.
To do this, use the "<" and "> " buttons to select "on" or "off" and press the "Sub-menu" button to return to the main menu.
When programme filter "on" is selected a "P" appears at the top right of the main menu.

When changing to the "Filter" sub-menu
To process the programme list for the programme filter, press the "Sub-menu" button on the "Filter" parameter in the programme filter. This reads in the current channel table from the transponder. A progress bar appears while this is being done.
As soon as the channel unit has successfully determined this information, the sub-menu for adjustment is displayed.

The first line shows the type of the channel that was selected, together with the number of the channel and the number of channels on the transponder.
T = TV channel
R = Radio channel
D = Data service

The second line shows the channel name, together with its filter status (+ or -).
The default setting for the status of the channels that are displayed is “-”, i.e. no programmes are transmitted when the programme fi iter is switched on, but the programme list is not processed.
The "Compile" button in the third line starts the compilation of the programme list, which then becomes effective.
The selection of the channels carried over is performed using the "+" and "-" buttons, where the status "+" means the channel will be carried over and the status "-" means it will be removed. The "Status" parameter is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons.
The settings become effective when the filter table is compiled. This is done using the "<" and ">” buttons; select the "Compile" parameter and use the "+" or "-" buttons to initiate the compilation of the channel table.
Note:
The programme filter can be processed even if it is not activated ("off"). This means that the operation can be checked or temporarily deactivated without waiting times or reprogramming.
If the programme list was not processed but the programme filter was switched on, the previously saved list remains active, or in the absence of any list no programmes are transmitted.

Note: In QAM modulation the maximum possible data rate in the output channel can be lower than the received data rate. In this case the programme filter must be switched on.
If the programme filter is switched on, a display appears next to the parameter indicating the current output data rate. Since the data rate can vary depending on the channel content, the instantaneous and maximum values are displayed.
Note: Only average values that can vary based on channels are displayed. To ensure error-free functioning and plan for at least 10 to 15% reserves, i.e. the data rate utilisation should not be above 85 to 90%.
The "Programme fi Iter" sub-menu is exited using the "Sub-menu" button.
Note: If the maximum possible number of programmes carried over is exceeded, an error message appears.

Note: The function "Transport stream processor: change IDs" is available via the UFG 300 hand controller from software version V9.80 or with USW 30 from software version V4.1 and UFX 314.

"Transport stream processor" sub-menu
The setting of the "ID" is performed in the TP (Transport stream processor) sub-menu.
The "TP" transport stream processor is selected using the "<" and "> " buttons, and the sub-menu is called up using the "Sub-menu" button 🔍.
The "IDs" function is called up using the "<" and ">” buttons, and the sub-menu is called up using the "Sub-menu" button. Here you can edit the operator ID, the transport stream ID and the original network ID as required.

1.12.1 Operator ID (OID)
The "OID" CAT operator ID can be set in the IDs sub-menu. To do this, use the "<" or ">” buttons to select "orig" next to the OID parameter and then use the "+" or "-" buttons to set the value to "edit". The OID value now appears in hexadecimal notation. In the "edit" setting you can modify the value. To do this, select the value using the ">” button. Use the "+" or "-" button to change the current value in ±1 increments. Alternatively you can also select numeric setting mode by pressing the 🎨 button. In numeric mode each digit can be modified by pressing the "+" or "-" buttons in ±1 increments. The values available are "00h" to "FFh".
1.12.2 Transport stream ID (TSID) and original network ID (ONID)
As the data rate of a QAM-modulated transport stream is lower than the data rate of the received transport stream, it may be necessary to distribute the services of an individual transport stream at the input to several transport streams at the output. When in search mode some receivers do then not detect all channels that were originally compiled in the original transport stream. In this case they require the "TSID" transport stream ID and/or the original network ID "ONID" to be adjusted.
Note: The TSID and the ONID are 16-bit numbers. A transport stream can be differentiated from all other transport streams in a DVB-C system by a unique combination of TSID and ONID that is only allocated once. For DVB the ONID normally describes the original location of a transport streams.
Menus are available for editing the TSID and the ONID. The values can be modified by selecting the corresponding "orig" entry using the "<" or ">” buttons and setting them to the "edit" value by using the "+" or "-" buttons. The current values of the TSID and ONID from the processed transport stream are displayed in hexadecimal notation. In the "edit" setting you can modify the values of the corresponding IDs. To do this, select the value using the ">” button. Use the "+" or "-" button to change the current value in ± 1 increments. Alternatively you can also select numeric setting mode by pressing the 🎨 button. In numeric mode each digit can be modified by pressing the "+" or "-" buttons in ± 1 increments. All IDs should be entered in hexadecimal format. Possible values are "00h" to "FFh" for the OID and "0000h" to "FFFFh" for the TSID and the ONID.
Note:
Only experienced users should modify the TSID or ONID. If several channels (services) of a SAT transport stream are distributed to multiple QAM transport streams, it is possible that the receiver cannot automatically detect all channels because in this case the uniqueness of the TSID / ONID pair is lost. In this case please proceed as follows:
- Preferably the ONID should be modified. If possible, set it to a value between FF00h and FFEEh. This range is reserved for private use and is not used by public network operators.
- If the channel search is unsuccessful despite the ONID adjustment, the TSID can be modified. Please ensure that all TSIDs in a system are adjusted to guarantee uniqueness for each transport stream.
This sub-menu can be exited only when the cursor is on the "OID" parameter. To do this, use the "<" and ">” buttons to select "OID" and press the "Sub-menu" button to return to the main menu.

- A description of extended functions such as "Cable NIT compilation", "Logical Channel Number" assignment, etc. can be found in the user instructions for the control elements UFG 300 and USW 30 that are required for implementing these functions.

Electronic equipment is not household waste; it must be disposed of properly in accordance with directive 2002/96/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND THE COUNCIL of 27 th January 2003 on used electrical and electronic equipment.
At the end of its service life, take this unit for disposal to an appropriate official collection point.
