How to charge the battery of the Ferm CDM1108S?

Use the supplied charger. Plug it into a mains socket (230 V). Insert the battery into the charger; the red LED indicates charging. Wait until the LED turns green (fully charged) before removing the battery.

What type of battery does the CDM1108S use?

It uses an 18 V Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1.5 Ah. Make sure to only use compatible Ferm batteries.

How to adjust the torque?

Turn the adjustment ring located behind the chuck. The 20 positions allow you to adapt the torque for screwing or unscrewing without damaging materials.

Is the chuck keyless?

Yes, the chuck is keyless. Tighten and loosen bits by hand for quick changes.

How to change a bit?

Hold the front ring of the chuck and turn it counterclockwise to open. Insert the bit, then tighten by turning clockwise.

Can I use the screwdriver for drilling?

This model is a screwdriver without hammer action. For drilling soft materials (wood, plasterboard), you can use a suitable drill bit, but for metal or concrete, prefer a drill with hammer function.

How to maintain the CDM1108S?

Clean the tool with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvents or aggressive cleaners. Regularly check the motor brushes and replace them if worn.

What to do if the battery does not hold a charge?

Try to fully charge the battery. If the problem persists, the battery may be defective. Replace it with a genuine Ferm battery.

Additional safety warnings for drills and screw drivers

a) Wear ear protectors when impact drilling. Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.
b) Use auxiliary handle(s), if supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury.
c) Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock."

Battery tool use and care

a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.

b) Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

Service

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

For the charger Intended use

Charge only 3.6V max.1.3Ah Li-ion type rechargeable battery packs. Other types of batteries may burst causing personal injury and damage.

a) The appliance is not to be used by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction

Power cord replacement

If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

Vibration level

The vibration emission level stated in this instruction manual has been measured in accordance with a standardized test given in EN60745; it may be used to compare one tool

Lithium-Ion technology

The batteries provided with this machine have Lithium-Ion technology.

One advantage of using Lithium-Ion batteries is that, until the battery is almost empty, hardly and power fading is noticeable. The machine can be used until you start noticing that the power of the drill is elapsed. The battery is discharged now and needs to be charged.

Another advantage is that Lithium-Ion batteries have no memory effect. Therefore they can be charged at any moment without degrading, independent of the charging state of the battery.

3. OPERATING

The machine must be charged before first use.

The machine can be charged by the charger adapter or by your USB mobile phone charger.

• If needed, connect the USB cable (9) to the charger adaptor (8) by pushing its USB plug (9B) in the charger adaptor's USB socket (8A).
• Plug the small cable plug (9A) into the machine's charging socket (2).
• Plug the charger into an electrical outlet and wait for a while. The LED indicator on the machine (3) will lighten up and show the charging status.

• If needed, remove the USB cable (9) from the charger adaptor (8) by pulling it out of the USB socket (8A).
• Plug the small cable plug (9A) into the machine's charging socket (2).
• Plug the cable USB plug (9B) into USB device (for example on your mobile phone charger).
  • Make sure the USB device is powered or switched on.
• Check charging status by checking if the charging indicator light (3) on the machine is burning.

The machine has a charging indication light (3) which indicates the status of the charging process:

• Fully charging the battery may take up to 2 - 3 hours.
• After the battery is fully charged remove the charger plug from the outlet and remove the cable from the machine.

Lithium-Ion cells can be stored for a long period without losing much of their charge. When the machine is not being used over a longer period of time it is best to store the battery in charged condition.

Fitting and removing drills or screwdriver bits Fig. D

The machine bit holder (4) is suitable for drills and screwdriver bits with a standard 14 inch. hexagonal shaft. To fit a screwdriver bit:

• Hold the machine (1) firmly with one hand.
- Insert the screw driver bit (10) into the machine's bit holder (4), it will be hold by a magnet.
- The screw driver bit can be removed by pulling it out of the bit holder again.
- The magnetic bit holder (11) can be used for screws that are difficult to reach. Put it directly into the machine's bit holder.

• Set the direction switch (5) to position ‘<<’ in order to drive screws or to use it for drilling.
• Set the direction switch (5) to position ‘>>’ in order to remove screws.

The on/off switch (6) is used for activating the machine.

• Pressing the on/off switch (6) will activate the machine.
• Releasing the on/off switch (6) will stop the machine.
• Move the direction switch (5) to the middle position to lock the movement of the on/off switch. It cannot be activated in this position.

The machine is equipped with electronic overload protection function. When the machine gets overloaded it will shut down automatically. When this happens, please wait for at least 5 seconds to let the overload protection reset itself.

The machine is fitted with an automatic spindle lock feature. When the on/off switch (6) is not pressed, the bit holder (4) rotation is locked. Now it is possible to use the screwdriver (even when the battery is empty) as a manual tool.

The machine is equipped with a work light to illuminate the work location.

• It automatically switches on when the on/off switch is being pressed.
• It automatically switches off when the on/off switch is released again.

User tips

When driving screws into wood, metal and other materials:

• Before using the appliance check if the drill or screw bit is properly fitted and centered inside the drill chuck.
• Screw bits are available in several shapes and dimensions. When unsure, always try if the bit fits on the screw head without any free play before using the machine.
• Make sure the machine is not running when it contacts the screw. A rotating bit may slip. This could result in damage to the work piece.
• Always hold the tool and screwdriver bit in a straight line with the screw.
• If screws are difficult to tighten, try applying a small amount of washing liquid or soap as a lubricant to the screws thread.
• Use the spindle lock feature to loosen very tight screws or to firmly tighten screws.
• When screwing in wood, it is recommended to drill a hole with a depth equal to almost the length of the screw. A pilot hole guides the screw and prevents splintering or distortion of the work piece.

4. MAINTENANCE

Before cleaning and maintenance, always switch off the machine and remove the battery pack from the machine.

Clean the machine casings regularly with a soft cloth, preferably after each use. Make sure that the ventilation openings are free of dust and dirt. Remove very persistent dirt using a soft cloth moistened with soapsuds. Do not use any solvents such as gasoline, alcohol, ammonia, etc. Chemicals such as these will damage the synthetic components.

The warranty conditions can be found on the separately enclosed warranty card.

ENVIRONMENT

Faulty and/or discarded electrical or electronic apparatus have to be collected at the appropriate recycling locations.

Only for EC countries

Do not dispose of power tools into domestic waste. According to the European Guideline 2012/19/EU for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and its implementation into national right, power tools that are no longer usable must be collected separately and disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
