General Information
Dual power: With its built in high power solar and backup battery, the calculator can work under any lighting conditions.
Start: Press (C/CE) key before starting calculation.
Auto power off: Power will automatically turn off after 7 minutes if no entry is made. When connected to the computer via the USB cable the Auto power off is not activated.

Changing the battery: The backup battery has a long life. If the display fades, remove both screws on the back cover. To separate the front and back covers, carefully insert and twist a flat-blade screwdriver between them. Gently pry out the old battery then position the new battery so the (+) side is facing up. Snap the covers back together, then reinsert and tighten the screws.

Caution:
- Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced.
- Replace only with same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer.
- Dispose of or recycle used batteries according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Chocking hazard. Keep batteries out of the reach of children under 6 years of age.
Overflow: When an overflow error occurs, the overflow error sign "E" appears on the display. Press (C/CE) to reset.
Reset: If the calculator malfunctions, use the tip of a ball point pen (or similar sharp object) to press the "RESET" button.

Connecting to a computer (Figure 1)
- Connect the USB cable supplied with the calculator directly to your computer's USB port. Proper operation may not be possible if you connect to a daisy chained or multi port USB device.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the calculator's USB port.
- The USB install wizard should start up automatically when you connect the calculator, if this does not happen refer to your operating systems help function. When the USB installer has finished the calculator is ready for PC Link use.
For Windows 98, 98se & ME
3.1. The original installation CD's may be required.
3.2. It is recommended to install the calculator after Windows is completely loaded. The calculator may not work properly the first time if installed before Windows is loaded.
3.3. Operation is not guaranteed under Windows 98/98se/ME/2000/ Professional/XP updated from previous Windows versions (Windows 95 etc.)
Important!
Never disconnect the USB cable while a calculator key operation is in progress. If you experience problems with data transfer between the calculator and computer, try disconnecting and then reconnecting the USB cable.

Caution:
- Do not expose the Calculator or the USB cable to extreme temperatures.
- Discontinue use and unplug USB cable if calculator or the USB cable becomes damaged.

Calculation and PC entry mode
Important!
Make sure to switch NUMBER LOCK on before sending data in PC entry mode or by [SEND] key. When operating the calculator while it is connected to a computer, make sure that you depress keys carefully and firmly.
Calculation mode
Whilst connected to your PC via the USB cable, you can send calculation results (display contents) to your computer by pressing the [SEND] key.
- The [SEND] operation takes some time to complete. Calculator keys are disabled while the send operation is in progress.
- You can send values only. 3-digit separator marks, indicators (M, =, etc.) are not sent.
- You cannot perform a send operation while the E (error) indicator is on the calculator display.
- The [SEND] key is disabled when the calculator is not connected to a computer.
- Using the computer keyboard while the [SEND] operation is in progress, can result in an incorrect calculation being displayed
Instructions for using calculation mode
- Open your desired Microsoft application (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Connect the USB cable
- Turn on your calculator by pressing [C/CE]
- Perform your calculation on the calculator

- Press [SEND] on your calculator
- The calculation result is displayed in your active document

PC entry mode (Figure 2)
This mode changes the calculator into a numeric keypad. All other calculator keys are disabled in this mode. Press [PC/CAL] to select the PC entry mode.
The calculators display shows “----” whilst it is in the PC entry mode.
In this mode, numbers will only appear on the computer screen and not on the calculator display.
By pressing [=/fx] then other calculation keys whilst in this mode you can also perform calculations on your PC (for further instructions see sample calculation 8)
Use [memory] keys to move around your active document.
Instructions for using PC entry mode
- Open your desired Microsoft application (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Connect the USB cable
- Switch to PC entry mode on your calculator by pressing [PC/CAL]
- Input your figures into your calculator
- Press [+/Enter] on your calculator
- The figures are displayed in your active document, the cursor moves to a new line or cell

Note - while the calculator is connected to a computer with the USB cable, pressing the [PC/CAL] key toggles between the Calculation mode and PC entry mode.

Guarantee
Operation of this machine is guaranteed for one year from date of purchase, subject to normal use. Within the guarantee period, GBC will at its own discretion either repair or replace the defective machine free of charge. Defects due to misuse or use for inappropriate purposes are not covered under the guarantee. Proof of date of purchase will be required.
