Tuesday, February 22, 2011 10:39 AM Thank you for purchasing an Onkyo product. Please read this manual carefully before making any connections or using this product. By following these instructions, you’ll get the best audio performance and the most listening pleasure from your Onkyo product. Keep this manual for future reference.

The UWF-1 adapter allows you to connect Onkyo’s audio components to a wireless LAN.

The adapter can only be used with the components listed in the “Compatible models” section (➔ En-8). (It cannot be used with computers, for example.)

Read these instructions.

Keep these instructions. Heed all warnings. Follow all instructions. Do not use this apparatus near water. Clean only with dry cloth. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus that produce heat. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as connection cord is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

10. Damage Requiring Service

Unplug the apparatus from the AV receiver/amplifier and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: A. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the apparatus, B. If the apparatus has been exposed to rain or water, C. If the apparatus does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the apparatus to its normal operation, D. If the apparatus has been dropped or damaged in any way, and E. When the apparatus exhibits a distinct change in performance this indicates a need for service.

Care—Occasionally you should dust the unit all over with a soft cloth. For stubborn stains, use a soft cloth dampened with a weak solution of mild detergent and water. Dry the unit immediately afterwards with a clean cloth. Don’t use abrasive cloths, thinners, alcohol, or other chemical solvents, because they may damage the finish or remove the panel lettering.

Never Touch this Unit with Wet Hands—Never handle this unit while your hands are wet or damp. If water or any other liquid gets inside this unit, have it checked by your Onkyo dealer.

About UWF-1 A wireless LAN (WLAN) is a local area network that relies on wireless communication. To achieve a wireless network connection, you will need the following components: ❑ Access point Also known as the base station, it links your networkcapable AV receiver (wireless client) with a PC or network. Access points fall into two categories: the bridge type that only performs data relay in a local area network, or the router type that has a built-in router functionality. ❑ Wireless adapters Sometimes known as dongles, wireless adapters are extension devices that provide wireless network functionality when connected to a PC. There are several types of adapters, including PC cards and USB adapters. Connecting the UWF-1 wireless adapter to the USB port of a network-capable AV receiver lets you use your AV receiver as a wireless client (wireless terminal) and connect it to a PC or to the Internet.

Compatible with new-series (TX-NRxx9 and higher) Onkyo AV receivers. For further details, visit the Onkyo web site. You can find the home page address on the back of this manual.

Performing wireless LAN setup on the AV receiver

To achieve a wireless network connection, it is necessary to perform the wireless LAN setup. The setup can be done either automatically or manually. Note • Do not connect any other wireless adapter than the UWF1 to the USB port of your network-capable AV receiver, as other wireless USB adapters are not supported. • Depending on your connection and the AV receiver’s functionality, menus won’t be displayed on screen. In this case, use the AV receiver’s display to make the settings. • The wording of displayed items varies according to the AV receiver’s functionality. Tip • Press RETURN to go back one screen.

Connect the UWF-1 to the USB port on your network-capable AV receiver.

Press USB to select the USB input. The “Wireless Setup” menu is displayed on screen. Use q/w to select “Auto Setup” and then press ENTER. The WPS selection screen is displayed, providing the following two options: ■ Push Button method 3.1 Use q/w to select “Push Button” and then press ENTER. 3.2 Press the WPS button on your Access Point device.

3.1 Use q/w to select “PIN Code” and then press ENTER. An 8-digit PIN code is displayed. The PIN code is displayed scrolling on the AV receiver’s display. 3.2 Input the provided code in your Access Point. For information on the registration process, please refer to the instruction manual provided with your Access Point device. Press ENTER to confirm. After the connection to your Access Point is completed, the connection status is displayed on screen. This completes the wireless LAN setup. You can review your setup with the “Status” option on the “Wireless Setup” menu.

Manual wireless LAN setup

Connect the UWF-1 to the USB port on your network-capable AV receiver.

Press USB to select the USB input. The “Wireless Setup” menu is displayed on screen. Use q/w to select “Manual Setup” and then press ENTER. A list of available Access Points is displayed. Use q/w to select the Access Point you wish to connect to, and then press ENTER. Depending on your encryption settings, the security of your Access Point will provide one of the following patterns: ■ WEP method 4.1 Use q/w to select “Default KeyID” and then press ENTER. 4.2 Use q/w to choose an ID between 1 and 4, and then press ENTER. 4.3 Use q/w to select “Key” and then press ENTER. 4.4 Use the keyboard on screen to enter the secret key and confirm with “OK”.

If your Access Point device is not secured by encryption, there is no need to input any secret key. Select “OK” and press ENTER. After the connection to your Access Point is completed, the connection status is displayed on screen. This completes the wireless LAN setup. You can review your setup with the “Status” option on the “Wireless Setup” menu.
