Cutting with plunge cut saw blade: Vibration emission value a_h=20 m/s^2 , uncertainty K=2.0 m/s^2

Cutting with segmential saw blade: Vibration emission value a_h=16 m/s^2 , uncertainty K=2.5 m/s^2

Scraping: Vibration emission value a_h=6 m/s^2 , uncertainty K=1.5 m/s^2 .

The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured in accordance with a standardised test given in EN 60745 and may be used to compare one tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure.

The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the tool. However if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period.

An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period.

Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisation of work patterns.

Dust/Chip Extraction

Dusts from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some wood types, minerals and metal can be harmful to one's health. Touching or breathing-in the dusts can cause allergic reactions and/or lead to respiratory infections of the user or bystanders.

Certain dusts, such as oak or beech dust, are considered as carcinogenic, especially in connection with wood-treatment additives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing asbestos may only be worked by specialists.

  • Use dust extraction whenever possible.
  • Provide for good ventilation of the working place.
  • It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator.

Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the materials to be worked.

Connecting the Dust Extraction (see figure A)

Remove the application tool/accessory when mounting the dust extraction 18 (accessory). If required, assemble the parts of the dust extraction 18 as shown in the figure. Position the assembled dust extraction onto the machine via the tool holder 7. Turn the dust extraction in such a manner that the cams of the dust extraction engage into the corresponding recesses on the housing. Fasten the dust extraction to the machine with the retaining clip 16 as shown in the figure.

Pay attention that the felt ring 15 is undamaged and faces tightly against the sanding plate 12.

Replace a damage felt ring immediately.

Place a vacuum hose 19 (accessory) onto the vacuum connection 17. Connect the vacuum hose 19 with a vacuum cleaner (accessory). An overview for the connection of various vacuum cleaners can be found at the end of these instructions.

The vacuum cleaner must be suitable for the material being worked.

When vacuuming dry dust that is especially detrimental to health or carcinogenic, use a special vacuum cleaner.

Operation

Starting Operation

Inserting the Battery

▶ Use only original Bosch lithium ion batteries with the voltage listed on the nameplate of your power tool. Using other batteries can lead to injuries and pose a fire hazard.

Note: Use of batteries not suitable for the machine can lead to malfunctions of or cause damage to the power tool.

Insert the charged battery 2 into the handle until it can be felt to engage and faces flush against the handle.

Switching On and Off

To switch on the power tool, push the On/Off switch 5 toward the front in the direction of the "1" on the switch.

To switch off the power tool, push the On/Off switch 5 toward the rear in the direction of the "0" on the switch.

The lithium ion battery is protected against deep discharging by the “Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)”. When the battery is empty, the machine is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The inserted tool no longer rotates.

Note: If the machine should automatically switch off because of a discharged or overheated battery, make sure to set the machine's On/Off switch 5 to off. Charge the battery and allow it to cool down before restarting the machine. Otherwise the battery can become damaged.

Preselecting the Orbital Stroke Rate

With the thumbwheel for preselection of the orbital stroke rate 3, you can preselect the required orbital stroke rate, even during operation.

The required stroke rate depends on the material and the working conditions and can be determined through practical testing.

When sawing and cutting harder materials, e.g., wood or metal, it is recommended to work with orbital stroke rate “5” or “E”; for softer materials, such as plastic, orbital stroke rate “4” is recommended.

When sanding harder materials, e.g., wood or metal, it is recommended to work with orbital stroke rate “5”; for softer materials, such as soft-wood, orbital stroke rate “4” is recommended.

The Eco electronics are active at the maximum orbital stroke rate “E”: When the application tool is not subject to load, the orbital stroke rate is automatically reduced (after approx. 1 s). The reduction extends the battery operating duration per charge, and the reduced vibrations enable precise applying of the application tool onto the workpiece. As soon as load is applied to the application tool again, the machine automatically accelerates to the maximum orbital stroke rate.

The Eco electronics, however, are not suitable for sanding activities. Instead, orbital stroke rate “5”, which has the same oscillation rate as setting “E” yet without the Eco electronics, is suitable for sanding.

Working Advice

Note: Do not cover off the venting slots 6 of the machine while working, as this reduces the working life of the machine.

While working with HCS tools make sure that the covering of the tools is undamaged.

Operating Principle

Due to the oscillating drive the application tool/accessory swings up to 20000 times per minute for 2.8^ . This allows for precise work in narrow spaces.

BOSCH PMF 10.8 LI - Operating Principle - 1

Work with low and uniform application pressure, otherwise, the working performance will decline and the application tool can become blocked.

BOSCH PMF 10.8 LI - Operating Principle - 2

While working, move the machine back and forth, so that the application tool does not heat up excessively and become blocked.

Sawing

▶ Use undamaged faultless saw blades only. Deformed, blunt saw blades or saw blades that are otherwise damaged can break.
▶ When sawing light building materials, observe the statutory provisions and the recommendations of the material suppliers.
▶ Plunge cuts may only be applied to soft materials, such as wood, gypsum plaster boards, etc.!

Before sawing with HCS saw blades in wood, particle board, building materials, etc., check these for foreign objects such as nails, screws, or similar. If required, remove foreign objects or use BIM saw blades.

Separating

Note: When separating wall tiles take into consideration that the application tools/accessories wear heavily when used for longer periods of time.

Sanding

The removal rate and the sanding pattern are primarily determined by the choice of sanding sheet, the preset oscillation rate and the applied pressure.

Only flawless sanding sheets achieve good sanding capacity and extend the service life of the machine.

Pay attention to apply uniform sanding pressure; this increases the working life of the sanding sheets.

Intensifying the sanding pressure does not lead to an increase of the sanding capacity, but to increased wear of the machine and the sanding sheet.

For precise on-the-spot sanding of edges, corners and hard to reach areas, it is also possible to work only with the tip or an edge of the sanding plate.

When selectively sanding on the spot, the sanding sheet can heat up considerably. Reduce the orbital stroke rate and allow the sanding sheet to cool down regularly.

A sanding sheet that has been used for metal should not be used for other materials.

Use only original Bosch sanding accessories.

To reduce the dust exposure and achieve better working results when sanding, use dust extraction as far as possible.

Scraping

For scraping, select a high oscillation rate.

Work on a soft surface (e.g. wood) at a flat ange, and apply only light pressure. Otherwise the scraper can cut into the surface.

Temperature-dependent Overload Protection

When using the machine as intended for, it cannot be subject to overload. In case of excessive load or when not within the permitted battery temperature range of -20 ^ to +65 ^ , the machine switches off. In case of overload, the battery charge-control indicator 4 will additionally flash red for a few seconds.

After an automatic shut-off, switch the machine off. Wait until the battery temperature is within the allowable range before switching the machine on again.

Recommendations for Optimal Handling of the Battery

Protect the battery against moisture and water.

Store the battery only within a temperature range between 0 °C and 45 °C. As an example, do not leave the battery in the car in summer.

A significantly reduced working period after charging indicates that the battery is used and must be replaced.

Observe the notes for disposal.

Maintenance and Service

Maintenance and Cleaning

▶ Before any work on the machine itself (e.g. maintenance, tool change, etc.) as well as during transport and storage, remove the battery from the power tool. There is danger of injury when unintentionally actuating the On/Off switch.
▶ For safe and proper working, always keep the machine and ventilation slots clean.

Clean Riff application tools (accessory) regularly with a wire brush.

If the machine should fail despite the care taken in manufacturing and testing procedures, repair should be carried out by an after-sales service centre for Bosch power tools.

In all correspondence and spare parts order, please always include the 10-digit article number given on the type plate of the machine.
