Where should the speakers be placed for best sound quality?

Install speakers on a flat, stable surface, at least 5 cm from walls to avoid obstructing rear vents. Place them at equal distance from your listening position and aim them toward you. For optimal bass, adjust the distance from the front wall between 30 and 60 cm.

How to connect speaker cables?

Strip the ends of the cables, unscrew the terminals on the back of the speaker, insert the wires into the holes respecting polarity (red for +, black for -), then tighten firmly. Be careful not to short-circuit the wires.

What to do if sound suddenly stops?

Reduce amplifier volume. Check the source and connections. If no problem is found, the protection circuit resets automatically after a few minutes. Avoid turning up the volume excessively afterwards.

How to clean the speakers?

Use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, wipe with a well-wrung damp cloth then dry with a dry cloth. Never use solvents like alcohol, thinner, or household detergents.

Can I mount the speakers on the wall or ceiling?

No, the speakers are designed only for floor installation on a flat surface. Hanging or mounting them on the wall could cause a fall and result in injury.

What amplifier power is recommended?

These speakers support a maximum input power of 100 W (IEC) and nominal power of 50 W. Use a suitable amplifier and avoid driving a small amplifier into distortion, as this could damage the speakers.

Can I use only one speaker?

Yes, you can use one speaker in stereo or mono, but to fully enjoy the stereo soundstage, it is recommended to use both identical speakers.

Are the speaker grilles removable?

Yes, the grilles are removable and attach via magnets. Remove instruction labels before use. Be sure to install them correctly (the 'Upper' mark at the top) to avoid affecting sound quality.

What to do if an object falls into the bass reflex port?

Do not attempt to remove it yourself. Turn off the amplifier and contact a qualified technician. Inserting objects into the port may cause fire or injury.

Where is the speaker's serial number located?

The model number and serial number are on the nameplate on the bottom of the speaker (product identification mark). Note them for any after-sales service requests.

1 Flat coaxial 2-way speaker unit

The newly developed flat coaxial 2-way speaker unit (woofer, tweeter) realises a point sound source, providing smooth directional characteristics over the entire frequency range.

2 Dome tweeter that can reproduce frequencies of up to 100 kHz

The lightweight aluminium diaphragm allows the reproduction of sound over an ultra-wide frequency range that extends up to 100 kHz.

3 High rigidity entasis form cabinet

Designed to eliminate unwanted vibration, diffraction reflection, and standing waves, the cabinet allows the reproduction of faithful and rich sound ambience.

• Place the speakers at approximately the same distance from the listening position.
• The speakers produce bass sound from the bass reflex ports on the rear as well as from the front. Install the speakers at least 5 cm (2") away from the walls so that they do not cover the bass reflex ports on the rear.

■ For optimum position

The quality and volume of the bass sound, sound localisation performance, sound ambience, and other factors that determine the audio quality vary depending on the installation location of this unit, listening position, room conditions, and other factors. Refer to the information below when installing the speakers.

Determining an installation location.

• Put the speakers on a flat safe surface.
• To minimise the gap in audio quality between the left and right speakers, install them so that acoustic conditions (reflection and absorption of sound) around them are the same.

Adjusting the distances between the rear of the speakers and the walls

If you install the speakers close to a wall or in a corner, the bass sound will be more powerful; however, when the speakers are too close to it, sound localisation performance and sound ambience may deteriorate. If this occurs, adjust the distance between the speakers and the front wall, which should be between 30 cm (12") to 60 cm (24"). (Please note that the distance between the speakers and the side walls should be greater than 60 cm (24").)

Adjusting the height and angle of the speakers

Using stands or similar items, place the speakers at a height about level with the listener's ears. Angle the front side of the speakers toward the listener. Following these steps will help the speakers deliver more precise sound localisation.

Adjusting the acoustics of the room and speaker layout

Depending on the room environment (including the size and shape of the room, distance to the walls and reverberation level), certain sounds may be exaggerated or suppressed, making them difficult to hear. In such cases, adjusting the reverberation level by moving the speakers, changing your listening position or covering the walls and windows with thick curtains may help resolve the problem.

Attaching and removing the speaker nets

The speakers are supplied with speaker nets, which protect the speaker units from dust. Use the magnets to fix the speaker nets to the speakers.

• Attach each speaker net so that the upper part of its back indicated as [Upper] is attached to the upper part of each speaker.
• Instruction labels are attached to the upper part of each speaker net. Remove them before use.

• Attach the speaker nets so that they fully cover the speaker units.

• Attaching the speaker nets upside down may cause the sound quality to deteriorate.

Connecting the speaker cables

① Twist the insulation covering the tips of the speaker cables to pull them out.

② Turn the knobs to loosen them, and insert the core wires into the holes.

Do not insert the vinyl insulation.

- Be careful not to cross (short-circuit) or reverse the polarity of the speaker wires as doing so may damage the amplifier.

DO NOT

- Check the colors of the speaker cables (supplied) to connect the left and right speakers correctly. Incorrect connection can damage the speakers.

Connecting with an amplifier

• Before connection, turn off the amplifier and disconnect its power cord.
• For details, refer to the operating instructions of the amplifier.

• Do not move the speaker while the speaker cables are connected. This may cause a short circuit.
• When the connections are completed, pull the speaker cables lightly to check that they are connected firmly.
• Wire the polarity (+/-) of the terminals correctly. Not doing so may adversely affect stereo effects or cause malfunction.

To protect the speakers from damage caused by excessive input, observe the following precautions:

• Do not apply inputs exceeding the permissible range.
• Avoid raising the volume level too much when enhancing the treble sound with a graphic equalizer.
• Avoid outputting excessively loud sound with a small power amplifier. Doing so will increase the amplifier's harmonic distortion and may damage the speakers.

Protection circuitry

These units incorporate protection circuitry to protect them from damage caused by excessive input or abnormal signals; when excess input is detected, input is automatically interrupted.

- If sound is interrupted...

1. Reduce the volume of the receiver (or amplifier).
2. Check the sound source and connections for any problems. If there is no problem, the protection circuitry will reset in a few minutes.

- After the protection circuit is reset...

Take care not to increase the receiver's volume too high.

Unit care

Clean the speakers with a soft, dry cloth.

• When dirt is heavy, wring a wet cloth tightly to wipe the dirt, and then wipe it with a dry cloth.
• Do not use solvents including benzine, thinner, alcohol, kitchen detergent, a chemical wiper, etc. This might cause the exterior case to be deformed or the coating to come off.

Limited Warranty Coverage (For USA Only)

If your product does not work properly because of a defect in materials or workmanship, Panasonic Corporation of North America (referred to as “the warrantor”) will, for the length of the period indicated on the chart below, which starts with the date of original purchase (“warranty period”), at its option either (a) repair your product with new or refurbished parts, (b) replace it with a new or a refurbished equivalent value product, or (c) refund your purchase price. The decision to repair, replace or refund will be made by the warrantor.
