Important safety instructions
- Before the appliance is used, the main body as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, it must not be used any longer: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
-
Electric heating appliances operate at very high temperatures. Caution, danger of burns: the accessible housing surfaces become very hot during operation.
-
During operation, the appliance must be placed on a heat-resistant surface, impervious to splashes and stains. When cooking food with a high fat or moisture content, splashes are not always avoidable.
- In order to prevent damage to the housing, do not position the appliance on or near hot surfaces or open flames such as hot-plates or gas flames.
- The appliance must be supervised at any time during operation!
There is always a danger that bread may catch fire, e.g. if it is toasted more than once or comes into contact with the heating elements.
- Likewise, when cooking with oil or fat, there is a danger of the oil or the food igniting. The appliance must therefore not be operated near any wall-cupboards or hanging objects such as curtains or any inflammable materials.
- Do not try to remove bread with your fingers or to insert any other objects (e.g. knives, forks) into the toast slot; the heating elements carry a live current.
- Do not cover the ventilation slots on the appliance.
-
The toasting time may be shortened as a result of fluctuations in the power supply.
Always remove the plug from the wall socket -
after use,
- in case of any malfunction,
-
before cleaning the appliance.
-
When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
- Do not allow the power cord to touch any hot parts of the appliance.
- Before storing the appliance, ensure that it has cooled down completely.
- The appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system
- This appliance is not intended for use by any person (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
- Caution: keep any packaging materials well away from children, as they are a potential source of danger e.g. from suffocation.
- No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
- Use only original accessory parts; the use of any attachments other than those provided by the manufacturer may cause serious hazards to the user.
- This appliance is intended for domestic use only and not for commercial applications.
- In order to comply with safety regulations and to avoid hazards, repairs of electrical appliances must be carried out by qualified personnel, including the replacement of the power cord. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to one of our customer service departments. The address can be found in the appendix to this manual.
General information
The appliance has the following functions:
- Toaster unit with automatic centre alignment for bread slices, electronic browning control and an infinitely adjustable browning control knob.
- Grill compartment with upper and lower heating elements, separate control switches for upper and lower heat with integral indicator lamps. Suitable for cooking ‘au gratin’, re-heating and grilling.
- The grill compartment and toaster unit can be used at the same time.
Wind-up power cord storage
Unwind the power cord completely before
operation and ensure that it is led away from the side of the appliance. Do not allow the power cord to touch any hot parts of the appliance. Allow for a sufficient cooling-down period and clean the appliance before winding up the power cord after use.
Before using for the first time
- Clean the appliance (see Cleaning and care) and, if necessary, remove any packing materials completely.
- Switch on the toaster without any bread inserted and go through at least five toasting cycles at the maximum temperature setting. Allow the toaster to cool down between the toasting cycles.
Please note: the operating lever locks down only when the plug is inserted.
- Let the grill compartment heat up for 10 minutes with both heating elements switched on.
When the appliance is switched on for the first time, a slight smell may be emitted. This is normal and will only last for a very short time. Ensure sufficient ventilation.
General Information about toasting
- Day-old, dry bread darkens faster than fresh bread. For brown bread, adjust the browning control to a higher setting than forasting white bread.
- Do not use slices which are too thick or too big. They can get stuck in the toaster. The thickness of the slices for toasting should not exceed 20 ~mm .
- In case of problems or malfunctions and before cleaning, always remove the plug from the wall socket.
- To remove a slice caught in the slot, use a blunt wooden stick (e.g. a brush handle). Never touch the metal heating elements.
- Variations in bread type, thickness of the slices and humidity content result in different degrees of browning. Bread should therefore be kept in a sealed wrapping.
Toaster operation
- Insert the plug into a wall socket.
- Use the infinitely adjustable browning control knob to select the desired degree of browning from light '1' to dark '5'.
- Insert the bread into the toast slot and press the operating lever down.
- Once the desired degree of browning is reached, the toaster will switch off automatically and the slices are ejected and can be removed.
- To interrupt the toasting process, push the operating lever up.
- Allow the toaster to cool down for 60 - 90 seconds after each cycle.
- Do not cover the toast slot during operation.
Gourmet grill operation
-
Pre-heat the grill compartment by switching on the upper and/or lower heating elements and heat up the grill compartment without the pan.
-
If you wish to use the lower heating element in addition to the upper element, a light coat of suitable fat or oil specifically intended for deep-frying should be applied to the surface of the pan.
- Place the food to be fried into the pan. To prevent the oil or fat from spilling, make sure that it is not overfilled. The approximate grilling/cooking times can be found in the table below.
- Insert the handle into the pan.
- Place the pan into the grill compartment. During cooking, the handle must be removed from the pan.
- Always place the hot pan onto a heat-resistant surface.
- To prevent damage to the non-stick coating of the pan, we recommend the use of wooden cutlery when stirring, turning or lifting out the food.
- Always switch off the grill after cooking is completed.
