Frequently Asked Questions - VT-1214 BK Vitek

How do I fill the water tank?
Ensure the iron is unplugged. Set the steam control to off (✗). Open the water filling lid. Use the measuring cup to fill the tank up to the MAX mark. Close the lid. Do not overfill.
What type of water should I use?
Use regular tap water. If water is hard, mix with distilled water at a 1:1 ratio. For very hard water, use a 1:2 ratio or pure distilled water. Do not use scented liquids, vinegar, starch, or descaling agents.
How does the auto-off function work?
The iron switches off automatically if left motionless for 30 seconds horizontally or 8 minutes vertically. The temperature indicator flashes. Simply move the iron to restart; it will reheat to the preset temperature.
How do I set the ironing temperature for different fabrics?
Use the temperature control knob: for synthetics (nylon, polyester), •• for silk/wool, ••• for cotton/flax, and MAX for high steam. Always check the garment tag first. Iron at the lowest temperature for mixed fabrics.
How do I use the steam burst function?
Set the temperature to ••• or MAX. Press the additional steam supply button (1) with 4-5 second intervals. This is useful for removing wrinkles from folds. Do not press too frequently to avoid water leakage.
How do I perform vertical steaming?
Set the temperature to ••• or MAX. Hold the iron 15-30 cm from the garment vertically. Press the additional steam supply button (1) with 4-5 second intervals. Do not use on synthetic fabrics or touch the soleplate to the fabric. Never steam clothes on a person.
How do I clean the steam chamber?
Fill the water tank. Set the steam control to off. Heat the iron to MAX. Unplug the iron. Hold it horizontally over a sink and set the steam control to the (self-clean) position. Boiling water and scale will be expelled. Sway the iron until empty. Let it cool, then wipe the soleplate.
How do I remove deposits from the soleplate?
After the iron has cooled, wipe the soleplate with a cloth soaked in a vinegar-water solution. Then polish with a dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or sharp metal objects.

  • The unit is ready to operate.

Note:

When using the unit for the first time, the heating element of the unit burns that is why some smoke or foreign odor can appear. It is normal.

"AUTOMATIC OFF" FUNCTION

If the iron is motionless during 30 seconds in horizontal position or about 8 minutes in vertical position, it will switch off automatically. The indicator in the temperature control (7) will be flashing.

To switch on the unit, just start ironing, the iron will switch on and the indicator will stop flashing.

Note:

After the iron is switched on, the previously set soleplate temperature will be set in some time, depending on the position of the temperature control (7).

IRONING TEMPERATURE

  • Always check the recommended iron temperature indicated on the tag before ironing.
  • If the tag does not list the recommended ironing temperature, but you know the type of fabric, then use the following table to determine the proper temperature.

Signs Fabric type (temperature)

Synthetics, nylon, acryl, polyester(low temperature)
• • Silk/wool (medium temperature)
• • • Cotton/flax (high temperature)
  • This table is only for smooth materials. Fabrics of other types (crimped, raised etc.) are best ironed at low temperature.
  • Firstly sort items by ironing temperature: wool with wool, cotton with cotton etc.
  • The iron heats up faster than is cools down. For this reason it is recommended to begin ironing at low temperature (for instance synthetic fabrics).
  • After that, move to higher temperature ironing (silk/wool). Cotton and linens should be ironed last.
  • If an item is made from a mix of fabrics, then the iron should be set for the fabric with the lowest ironing (for instance if an item is made from 60% polyester and 40% cotton, it should be ironed at the temperature used for ironing polyester “•”).
  • If you cannot define the fabric the item is made from, find a place on it that is hidden while wearing and, on practice select the ironing temperature (always start at the lowest and gradually raise it until you get the desired result.)
  • Corduroy and other fabrics that start glossy quickly should be ironed strictly in one direction (along the lines) with slight pressure.
  • To avoid appearance of glossy spots on the synthetic and silk fabrics, iron them back-side.

SETTING THE IRONING TEMPERATURE

  • Place the iron on the base (8).
  • Insert the power plug into the socket.

ENGLISH

  • Set the temperature control (7) to the required ironing temperature: “•”, “••”, “•••” or “MAX”, depending on the type of fabric, the indicator in the temperature control (7) will light up.
  • When the soleplate temperature (5) reaches the desired temperature value, the indicator will go out.

Note: While steam ironing set the temperature to steam using zone, “…” or “MAX”,

WATER SPRAYER

  • You can dampen the fabric by pressing the spray button (2) several times (pic. 4).
  • Make sure that there is enough water in the water tank.

DRY IRONING

  • Place the iron on the base (8).
  • Set the constant steam supply control (3) to the “✗” position (steam supply is off). (pic.5.1)
  • Set the temperature control (7) to the required ironing temperature: “•”, “••”, “•••” or “MAX”, depending on the type of fabric, the indicator in the temperature control (7) will light up.
  • When the soleplate temperature (5) reaches the desired temperature value, the indicator will go out, you can start ironing.
  • After you finish ironing set the temperature control (7) to the "MIN" position.
  • Pull the plug out of the socket and let the iron cool down completely.

STEAM IRONING (pic.5)

For steam ironing set the temperature control to steam using zone “···” or “MAX”.

The iron has an anti-drip valve, which stops water supply, when the sole temperature is too low it prevents the appearance of drops out of the soleplate openings (5). While heating or cooling down of the sole (5), you will hear clicks of opening/closing of the anti-drip valve; it means that the valve works normally.

  • Make sure that there is enough water in the water tank.
  • Place the iron on the base (8).
  • Set the constant steam supply control (3) to the “☒” position (steam supply is off). (pic.5.1)

  • Insert the power plug into the socket.

  • Set the temperature control (7) to the required ironing temperature: to steam using zone “···” or “MAX”, the indicator in the temperature control (7) will light up.
  • When the soleplate temperature (5) reaches the desired temperature value, the indicator will go out, you can start ironing.
  • Turn the constant steam supply regulator (3) to set the intensity of steaming, steam will start outgoing from the openings of the sole-plate (5). (pic.5.2.)
  • After you finish ironing set the (7) temperature control to the "MIN" position and the constant steam supply control (3) to the "×" position (steam supply is off).
  • Pull the plug out of the socket and let the iron cool down completely.
  • Open the filling opening lid (9), turn over the unit and drain the remaining water (10). Close the lid (9) (pic.9).

ATTENTION!

If during the operation steam is not constantly supplied, check whether the temperature control (7) is set properly and whether there is water in the water tank.

ADDITIONAL steam supply

Additional steam supply function is useful when ironing folds and can only be used at high ironing temperatures (when the iron temperature control (7) is set to “•••” or “MAX”).

When the additional steam supply button (1) is pressed, steam will be vigorously released from the openings in the iron soleplate (pic.6).

Note:

In order to avoid leakage of water from steam openings, press the additional steam supply button (1) with a 4-5 sec. interval.

VERTICAL STEAMING

For vertical steaming can be used only when the high temperature mode is used (set the temperature control (7) to the “···” or “MAX” position.

Hold the iron vertically at the distance 15-30 cm from the clothes press the additional steam supply button (1) with a 4-5 seconds interval, steam will be released from the openings in the iron soleplate (5) (pic. 7).

ENGLISH

Important information

  • Vertical steaming is not recommended for synthetic fabrics.
  • To avoid melting the fabric, do not touch the iron soleplate to the item while steaming.
  • Never steam iron clothes on a person as the steam temperature is very high and it can cause burns. Use a coat-hanger or a stand.
