Frequently Asked Questions - Preston Lux Thermex

How do I clean the grease filter?
The aluminum grease filter should be cleaned monthly. Remove it from the hood and wash it with warm water and mild detergent, or place it in the dishwasher at a low temperature.
How often should I replace the charcoal filter?
If using the hood in recirculation mode, replace the charcoal filter every 3 to 6 months depending on cooking frequency. The filter is not washable.
What is the recommended installation height above the hob?
For electric hobs, the minimum height is 50 cm; for gas hobs, it is 65 cm. Follow the exact measurements in the manual for safety.
Can I use the hood without ducting?
Yes, the Preston Lux can be used in recirculation mode by installing a charcoal filter (sold separately). The air is filtered and returned to the kitchen.
How do I change the LED bulbs?
The LED lights are integrated and should be replaced by a qualified technician. Contact Thermex support for service.
What does the intensive speed do?
The intensive speed runs at maximum power for a limited time (usually 10 minutes) to quickly remove strong odors or steam, then automatically returns to the previous setting.
Why is the hood not working after installation?
Check if the power cord is plugged in and the circuit breaker is on. If the display is off, ensure the unit is properly connected. Refer to the wiring diagram in the manual.
How do I reset the filter alarm?
After cleaning or replacing the filters, press and hold the filter reset button (usually the '-' button) for 3 seconds until the indicator turns off.
What is the maximum duct length for efficient extraction?
For optimal performance, keep the duct length under 4 meters with minimal bends. Use smooth, rigid ducts of the same diameter as the outlet.
Where can I find spare parts?
Spare parts such as filters, motors, and control boards can be ordered from authorized Thermex dealers or the official website using the model number Preston Lux.

WARNINGS

  • The range hood is designed and manufactured according to DS/EN 60335-1.
  • This range hood is only for use in private house holdings, if used for other purposes the warranty will be repealed.
  • Installation must be performed by a skilled electrician in accordance with the specifications given by Thermex Scandinavia A/S (Thermex) and legislation in force.
  • Thermex disclaims all responsibility in regards to damages caused by wrong installation, mounting or use.

BEFORE MOUNTING/COMMISSIONING

  • Inspect the range hood for transport damages, flaws and defects immediately after the receipt.
  • Transport damages must be filed to the haulage contractor and Thermex immediately after the receipt.
  • Flaws and defects must be filed to Thermex within 8 days the receipt, and not later than mounting/commissioning.

MOUNTING

  • The range hood is intended for working at 230 Volt ±10%\~50 HZ in referring to EN 50160.
  • Connect the hood with the attached plug. NOTE: The hood MUST have earth if the plug has an earth connection.
  • For models with external motor applies that NOT to use common zero by installing the hood and engine, as this will affect the control.
  • It MUST be ensured that the motor can be used with the selected range hood when using an external motor from another supplier. Otherwise the warranty no longer apply.
  • Do not plug in the range hood until the mounting is complete.
  • The air must not be discharged from the hood into a pipe used for extraction from devices using gas or other fuels. Such devices must have a separate vent.
    • The national legislation on air emissions must be observed.

  • Always use the original dimension of the vent. By reducing the dimension of the vent, the performance will be reduced and the sound level will be increased.

  • The vent to the open air, must be as short as possible in order to get the greatest possible capacity of the range hood.
  • The number of bends on the vent ought to be minimised, to gain the greatest possible capacity of the range hood.
  • Thermex recommends to always use sound and condensation insulated vent hose at the carrying through in unheated spaces.
  • Thermex recommends that there is used for a muffler to minimize the noise level when using flexible hose.
  • Using the flexible hose must always ensure that this is fully extended to minimize air resistance and thereby achieve maximum absorbency.
  • Different materials takes different rawlplugs and screws. Use rawlplugs and screws intended for the material the range hood is to be mounted in.
  • If the instructions for the installation of screws and fittings are not followed, it may result in electrical shock.
  • The minimum distance to gas stoves from the burner's edge to the underside of the hood MUST be minimum 65 cm in accordance with EN 60335-2-31.
  • Thermex recommends that the space between the lower edge of the range hood and cooker is between 50 cm and 70 cm, valid for all cabinet range hoods, islands and wall mounted range hoods.
    • Always control the stated minimum distance between cooker and range hood in the manual for the cooker. If the manual for the cooker states a greater distance than what Thermex recommends the manual for the cooker MUST be followed.
  • Thermex recommends that the space between cooker and range hood does not exceed 3 meters for range hoods integrated in the ceiling

REMOTE CONTROL

  1. LED
  2. On/off light
  3. (+) button
  4. (-) button
  5. On/off extraction

The remote control uses a radio frequency system

that enables the hood's functions to be controlled up to a distance of 8 metres (this distance can be reduced if the signal is disrupted by a wall and/or furniture, or if the batteries are almost dead).

When a button is activated on the remote control, the LED will light on the remote control.

When using the remote control for the first time, the accompanying battery must be inserted first:

  • Remove the protective film that surrounds the battery.
  • Remove the battery cover on the bottom of the remote control by loosening the small clip.
  • Insert the battery. NOTE: take care to position the battery correctly.
  • Replace the battery cover on the remote control.
    • The remote control is now ready for use.

EXTRACTION

The motor is activated by pressing on 'on/off extraction'.

The motor speed is increased by pressing on the (+) button and reduced by pressing on the (-) button.

The LED-indicator on the remote shows which extraction level the hood is currently on (step 1-4)

The light on the hood is turned on and off by pressing on the 'on/off light' button. This can be done independently of whether the motor is running.

Thermex Preston Lux - EXTRACTION - 2

As a radio frequency system is used between the remote control and the hood, the two units must be coupled up to each other. The manufacturer has already coupled the hood up to the remote control when you receive it. The connection between the two units can however be lost, and must subsequently be coupled back together again.

This is done in the following steps:

  • Ensure that the remote control is ready for use and the batteries are correctly inserted.
  • Switch off the mains power to the hood (it is not enough for the light and extraction on the hood are turned off).
  • Reconnect the power to the hood.
  • Click the "PAIR" button behind the battery cover on the remote. This must be done within 8 seconds of the power being reconnected to the hood.
  • If coupling is done correctly, the remote control will start to control the hood's functions.
  • If the coupling fails, start the process again.

MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

• Always disconnect power before cleaning.
- The hood must be cleaned regularly to ensure optimal operation and long service life.
- Grease and dust debris are collected in the filter and may risk igniting with insufficient cleaning.
- The hood should be cleaned inside and out frequently to avoid grease stains on walls or other surfaces.

DAILY CLEANING

  • For cupboard-integrated, free-hanging and wall-mounted hoods, Thermex recommends that the grease filter be wiped with a damp cloth after each cooking session. It requires very little effort every day to keep your cooker hood clean and effective.
  • Steel surfaces are cleaned with a damp cloth with detergent and treated with 3M Polish.
  • Lacquered surfaces should be cleaned with a damp cloth with detergent/washing-up liquid. Never use abrasives.

CLEANING THE GREASE FILTERS

Grease filters should be cleaned as needed. Thermex recommends as a minimum that the filter is cleaned at the following intervals, depending on the fat used for frying:

• Frying margarine - filter cleaned every 3 weeks
• Liquid margarine - filter cleaned every 2 weeks
• Oil - filter cleaned once per week
- Deep fat frying - filter cleaned 2-3 times per week

The grease filters are cleaned in the following way:

  • Open the glass door
  • Rinse with warm water.
  • Leave the filters to dry on a dishcloth or similar.
  • Repeat the process if necessary.
  • Re-attach the filters..

- Remove the grease filter behind the glass plate and the filter in the base by pulling on the filter-locking mechanism to loosen the filter from the hood.

- Place the filters in warm soapy water and clean if necessary with a soft brush.

The filters can also be washed in the dishwasher, although please note that machine washing can result in discolouration of the filters. Discolouration of the filters does not affect performance.

REPLACING THE RECIRCULATION FILTERS

If recirculation filters are used, these cannot be washed, but must be replaced when needed. Thermex recommends that the recirculation filters are replaced at least 2-4 times per year.
