Frequently Asked Questions - ES-2317 Coline

How do I refill the water tank?
Unplug the iron and let it cool. Stand it upright, turn the steam control knob to the 'x' position, open the refill port, fill with tap water up to the MAX mark, then close the lid.
What water should I use?
Use normal tap water. The iron has a permanent filter that softens water. Do not use distilled water as it can degrade the filter.
How do I set the temperature?
Plug in the iron and press the temperature setting button to cycle through MIN, ●, ●●, ●●●, MAX. The display flashes until the set temperature is reached and then stays lit.
Can I use the steam function at low temperatures?
No, steam ironing only works on higher settings (●● or ●●●). Using steam at low temperature may cause water to leak from the soleplate.
How do I use the steam shot feature?
Ensure the temperature is set to high. Hold the iron over the fabric, press the steam shot button for up to 2 seconds until steam flows, then release.
What does the anti-drip function do?
It prevents water marks on delicate fabrics by ensuring no steam or hot water escapes at low temperatures. Ideal for sensitive materials like silk.
How does the automatic shut-off work?
The iron turns off if left upright and unused for about 8 minutes, or if left horizontally for more than 30 seconds. The white light flashes to indicate shut-off. Move the iron to reactivate.
How do I clean the iron using the self-cleaning function?
Fill the tank half full, set steam control to 'x', set temperature to MAX, wait until heated, unplug, hold over a sink, press and hold the self-cleaning button until water and steam stop coming out. Shake gently to loosen deposits.
What should I do if the iron smokes or smells?
A harmless odour and smoke may occur during first use; this is normal and temporary. If it persists or the iron malfunctions, unplug and contact customer service.
Can children use this iron?
Children aged 8 and above may use the iron under adult supervision and with instructions on safe use. Cleaning and maintenance must be done by adults or supervised for children over 8.

Operating instructions

Before initial use

The first few times the iron is used, a harmless odour and smoke may be given off. This is completely normal and is only temporary. Test the iron for the first time on a spare piece of cloth to check that both the soleplate and the water tank are clean.

Refilling

  1. Unplug the iron and let the soleplate cool down. Stand the iron upright.
  2. Turn the steam control knob (3) to the xposition.
  3. Open the water tank refill port (2).
  4. Use the measuring cup and fill the tank (10) up to the max mark.
  5. Close the lid.

Note: Only use normal tap water. The water tank contains a filter which softens the water and hinders the build up of scale. Using distilled water can cause the filter to lose its properties. It is a permanent filter which does not need to be replaced.

Temperature setting button

  1. Always check the fabric care label on your clothing.
  2. Always use the lowest recommended temperature setting if the fabric consists of mixed materials.
  3. Plug in the iron and stand it upright.
  4. The iron always starts in MIN mode. Press the temperature setting button to increase the temperature setting from MIN - o - o o - o o o - MAX.
  5. The temperature setting will be shown on the display with symbols and different colours: MIN (white) - ○ (blue) - ○○ (yellow) - ○○○ (green) - MAX (red).

  6. The temperature setting indicator will flash until the desired setting has been reached.

  7. The relevant temperature setting indicator will be lit when the setting has been reached.

The recommended ironing setting for a garment will usually be printed on its care label:

Symbol MaterialThermostat setting
Synthetic ○ Low temperature
Silk – wool ○○ Mediumtemperature
Cotton – linen ○○○ Hightemperature
This material should not be ironed

Spray feature

This function can be used at any time and does not affect the temperature setting. Press the spray button (4) slowly for a full spray; press the button quickly to deliver a fine mist spray. Do not use the spray function on silk or synthetic fibres.

Steam ironing

This feature only works on the higher temperature settings.

  • ○○ medium heat
  • 000 max heat

  • Fill the steam iron with water if you have not already done so.

  • Plug the mains lead into a wall socket.
  • Set the temperature to or .
  • The indicator light on the display flashes as the iron heats up and stays lit when the temperature has been reached.
  • Turn the steam control knob (3) to the ⏻ setting, steam will now come out of the holes in the soleplate.
  • If the iron is held horizontally, steam will come out of the holes in the soleplate. If it is held vertically, the steam will not come out. If you wish to iron something vertically, such as garments on hangers the steam shot function must be used.

Note: Water can escape from the holes in the soleplate if the temperature setting is too low. If this happens, set the temperature to or . The steam will return when the correct temperature has been reached.

Steam shot feature

The steam shot feature can be used for both dry ironing and steam ironing. However, the temperature must be set on high. Stubborn creases and wrinkles can be smoothed out easily with the help of a couple of presses of the steam shot button (5).

  1. Hold the iron over the piece of clothing.
  2. Press the steam shot button (max 2 seconds) until the steam begins flowing through the holes of the soleplate.
  3. Release the steam shot button.

Dry ironing

  1. Turn the steam control knob (3) to the disposition.
  2. Plug the mains lead into a wall socket.
  3. Set the iron to the desired temperature setting.
  4. The indicator lamp will shine when the temperature has been reached.

Other features

Automatic shut-off

The iron has an automatic safety shut-off feature. The iron shuts off automatically if it is left standing upright and unused for approximately 8 minutes or if it is set down horizontally and unused for more than 30 seconds. When the iron is switched off, the white light on the display will flash to indicate that the heat has been switched off. As soon as the iron is moved again, the iron will switch back on and heat up to the set temperature.

Anti-drip function

The anti-drip function enables you to iron even the most sensitive fabrics without leaving unsightly water marks. Sensitive fabrics should always be ironed at low temperatures. The soleplate must be cool enough that no steam or drops of hot water come out and leave water marks on the fabric.

Ironing tips

  • Garments with embroidery, sequins, lace, etc., should be ironed on the lowest temperature setting.
  • For textiles made of mixed fibres (e.g. 40% cotton/60% synthetic fibre), choose the temperature setting appropriate for the fibre with the lowest recommended ironing temperature.
  • If you are not sure what the material is made of, start by ironing an inconspicuous part of the garment on the lowest temperature setting and increase the temperature gradually.
  • Never iron a garment which has a sweat stain or other discolouration, the heat will iron the stain into the fabric and it will be very difficult to remove it.
  • Silk, wool and synthetic fibres can get shiny stains when ironed; they should therefore be ironed on the reverse side.
  • Velvet can also become shiny when ironed; it should be ironed in the direction of the pile/nap. Avoid applying a lot of pressure to the iron.
  • The more clothes washed the same time in the washing machine, the more wrinkles the washed clothes will have.
  • The higher the speed of the spin cycle, the more wrinkles the washing will have.
  • Many fabrics are easier to iron when they are not completely dry. Silk, for example should always be steam-ironed.

Care advice

Cleaning the housing

  • Note: Unplug the iron from the wall socket before cleaning.
  • Wipe the exterior with a moist, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.
  • Note: Do not scratch the soleplate – do not slide it over metal items such as buttons or zips.

After use

Warning: The iron is very hot directly after use. Remember to let it cool off completely before putting it away for storage.

  • Unplug the mains lead from the wall socket.
  • Empty the water tank by turning the iron upside down and pouring the water out whilst moving it back and forth at the same time. Press the spray button a few times to make sure the tank is completely empty.
  • Store the iron in a dry place.

Self-cleaning

We recommend that you use the self-cleaning function at least once a month, possibly more depending on the quality of the water in your area.

The self-cleaning function removes scale and dust particles from the water tank.

  1. Fill the water tank to half full.
  2. Turn the steam control knob (3) to the ✗ position.
  3. Stand the iron upright.
  4. Plug the mains lead into a wall socket.
  5. Set the temperature to MAX by repeatedly pressing the temperature setting button (6).
  6. Wait until the iron has reached the set temperature, i.e. the temperature indicator light on the display has stopped flashing.
  7. Unplug the mains lead from the wall socket.
  8. Hold the iron over a sink and hold in the self-cleaning button until all the water (and any deposits) and steam has come out through the holes in the soleplate. Carefully shake the iron back and forth to loosen any scale or dirt deposits inside the water tank.
  9. Let the iron cool down and then iron a spare piece of cotton fabric. This will clean the face of the soleplate from any remaining scale and dirt deposits.
