Frequently Asked Questions - HC 16 Cocraft

How do I drain condensation from the pressure tank?
Depressurize the compressor by unscrewing the safety valve and let it cool completely. Then open the drain valve at the bottom of the tank to release any trapped condensation. Make this a regular habit.
How do I check if the safety valve is working?
While the tank is under pressure, turn the upper part of the safety valve anticlockwise until it opens. Air should seep out. If it doesn't, the valve may be faulty and must be replaced by a qualified technician.
What should I do if the compressor will not start?
Check that the plug is properly connected and the mains outlet is live. If the ambient temperature is below 5°C, the compressor may not start. Also, if the motor has overheated, wait for it to cool down. Ensure the power switch is ON.
Can I use the compressor continuously?
No, this compressor is designed for intermittent operation only. It should not run for more than 120 seconds continuously. It is intended for tasks like inflating small items, driving nail guns, or paint sprayers.
What is the maximum pressure setting?
The maximum working pressure is 8 bar (116 psi). The working pressure adjustment knob allows you to set the desired pressure up to that limit.
How do I adjust the working pressure?
Use the working pressure adjustment knob on the compressor. Turn it clockwise to increase pressure, anticlockwise to decrease. The pressure gauge shows the current tank pressure.
What type of oil does the compressor use?
This compressor is oil-free, meaning it does not require any oil. The pump is designed to run without lubrication.
Why does the compressor start but no pressure builds?
Check that the drain valve is closed tightly. Also inspect all air hoses and connected accessories for leaks. If there is a leak, pressure will not build.
How often should I inspect the pressure tank?
Perform a visual inspection at least once a year for corrosion. The wall thickness must not be less than 2 mm. If any damage is found, replace the compressor immediately.
Can I use an extension cord with this compressor?
Yes, but only use an extension cord rated for outdoor use and appropriate for the power consumption. Ensure it is fully unwound to prevent overheating. Do not use damaged cords.

Product description

The compressor pump compresses the air and discharges it into the pressure tank. When the air pressure in the tank reaches max, a pressure switch switches off the motor driving the compressor. A safety valve releases the air in the pressure tank if the pressure switch fails to turn the motor off.

How the safety valve works

The safety valve is a simple but critical part of the air compressor. If the air pressure inside the pressure tank exceeds the maximum allowed limit, the safety valve will automatically open and release air until the pressure is reduced. The operation of the safety valve should be checked regularly while the pressure tank is under pressure by turning the upper part of it anticlockwise until it opens and air is released.

The compressor is oil-free, which means that it is intended for intermittent operation. This means that is must only be used to drive smaller pneumatic tools, such as nail guns, to inflate smaller items, such as footballs, or to drive a paint sprayer, such as an airbrush. It is not intended to inflate large objects, such as pools and large air mattresses, where it needs to operate for a long time (over 120 seconds).

Instructions for use

i Remember that the compressor is intended for intermittent operation. Refer to the section Product description.

  1. Make sure that the power switch (4) is set to the OFF position.
  2. Plug the mains lead into an earthed mains outlet.
  3. Connect the desired pneumatic accessory to the air outlet (8).
  4. Set the power switch to the ON position.
  5. Set the desired working pressure using the knob (9).

After use

⚠️ Depressurise the pressure tank by unscrewing the safety valve before disconnecting the attached accessory.

  1. Turn off the compressor and pull out the plug from the mains outlet.
  2. Depressurise the compressor by unscrewing the safety valve.
  3. Disconnect the attached accessory and wind the mains lead around the holders (6).

Care and maintenance

  • Unplug the mains lead from the mains outlet. Depressurise the compressor by unscrewing the safety valve and let it cool down completely.
  • Clean the compressor using a damp cloth. Use only mild cleaning agents, never solvents or corrosive chemicals.
  • Check the safety valve regularly by unscrewing it. If the safety valve is working properly (and the pressure tank is under pressure), air should seep out through the safety valve.
  • Under no circumstances may the safety valve be tampered with or blocked.
  • Perform a visual inspection at least once a year to check that the inside and outside of the pressure tank is free of corrosion. Under no circumstances must the wall thickness of the pressure tank be less than 2 mm.
  • Make it a habit to open the drain tap regularly to release any trapped condensation in the pressure tank. Depressurise the compressor by unscrewing the safety valve and let it cool down completely before opening the drain tap.
  • If the compressor is not to be used for an extended period, unplug it from the mains, depressurise the tank by unscrewing the safety valve and drain the tank using the drain valve (11).

Troubleshooting guide

The compressor will not start/shuts down when in use.Is the plug properly connected to the mains outlet? Is the mains outlet live? The ambient temperature is too low. The compressor is not intended for use at temperatures below 5°C.The motor has overheated and the overheating protection has been triggered. Let the compressor cool down before attempting to start it again.
The compressor starts but no pressure builds up.Check that the drain valve (11) is closed.Check that there are no leaks from the attached air hoses and accessories.
