Frequently Asked Questions - CMP301 BLAUPUNKT

How do I make espresso with the CMP301?
Turn on the machine using the On/Off switch. Wait for the LED to stop blinking. Insert the correct filter into the filter holder, add medium-ground coffee, tamp gently, and attach the holder. Place cups under the outlets and press the Coffee switch. When the desired amount is brewed, press the Coffee switch again to stop.
How do I froth milk?
After brewing espresso, press the Steam switch to activate steam mode. Wait for the LED to shine continuously. Immerse the steam wand in cold milk, turn the Steam knob anti-clockwise, and froth until desired consistency. Turn the knob clockwise to stop steam, then remove the wand. Rinse the wand with water immediately.
Why is my coffee too bitter or burnt?
Over-extraction or high temperature can cause bitterness. Ensure you use medium-ground coffee and tamp gently. Also, avoid using the steam mode just before brewing coffee, as the water may be too hot. Wait at least 5 minutes after frothing before making espresso.
How often should I descale the coffee maker?
Descaling is recommended every 2-3 months, depending on water hardness. Use a descaling solution for espresso machines. Failure to descale may reduce performance and void the warranty.
What does it mean when the LED blinks?
A blinking LED indicates the machine is heating up (preheating or steam mode preparation). When it shines continuously, the machine is ready for use.
Can I use ground coffee other than espresso grind?
For best results, use medium-fine espresso grind. Too fine a grind may block water flow; too coarse will result in weak coffee.
How do I clean the filter holder?
After each use, remove the filter holder and discard used coffee. Rinse the filter and holder with warm water. Use a mild detergent if needed, but rinse thoroughly to avoid residues.
Is the steam wand removable?
The steam wand is fixed but can be pivoted. It is not designed for removal. Clean the tip with a damp cloth after each use.
Can I use the machine without water in the tank?
No. Never operate the machine with an empty water tank. Always fill with fresh, cool water before use. Running dry may damage the pump.
What should I do if the machine leaks?
Check that the water tank is properly seated and the filter holder is securely locked. Ensure the drip tray is not overfilled. If leaking persists, contact service.

Before first use

It is recommended to rinse the coffee maker before the first use. The coffee maker should also be rinsed after a longer period of time without use. Refer to the instruction in the "Cleaning and maintenance" chapter.

Preparation of espresso coffee

  1. Turn device on by pressing the On/Off switch [1]. Coffee maker will start to pre-heat, LED will blink.
  2. Choose the right filter [14] (for one cup, for two cups) and put it into the filter holder [16]
  3. When coffee maker is ready, the LED will stop blinking and shine continuously.
  4. Hold the filter holder [16] with filter inside [14] below the mounting point [12] and rinse it with water to pre-heat it. Press the button "coffee switch" [2] and wait for a few seconds, than press "coffee switch" again to close the flow of the water.
  5. Pour medium ground coffee powder into the filter [14] and pack the coffee gently. Clean the rim of the filter holder [16] to remove any excess ground coffee.

ADVISE 1. Coffee ground too fine (like for brewed coffee), will block the flow of the water in the filter. Coffee ground too coarse, will not release the full flavor and aroma of the coffee.

ADVISE 2. If coffee is packed too tightly, the flow of water can be obstructed and may scold the coffee and cause the drink to have a burned aroma. It may even block the flow of water totally. If the coffee is packed too loose it will not transfer enough taste and aroma into the drink.

  1. Place the filter holder [16] into the mounting point head [12]. Engravings on the filter holder must fit in the slots of the filter holder's mounting point. Turn the filter holder all the way to the right (clockwise).
  2. Place cups under the outlets of the filter holder.
  3. Press "coffee switch" [2] and wait for the right amount of coffee to pour into the cups then press "coffee switch" [2] again.

Frothing milk

It is advised to froth the milk after the coffee had been prepared as milk frothing mode requires a higher temperature. After milk frothing it is necessary to wait a minimum of 5 minutes to allow the device to cool down slightly. If the temperature of brewing is too high, the coffee can be scolded which will cause the coffee to have a burned and bitter taste and aroma.

Before frothing ensure the volume of milk is adequate in the cup. Milk can double in volume after

frothing, so care should be taken when deciding the volume of milk.

Use a heat-resistant cup for milk frothing. The cup can get very hot during frothing.

  1. Turn on the milk frothing mode by pressing "steam switch" [3]. The LED control light will start to blink. When the light starts to shine continuously the device is ready to generate steam.

  2. Rinse the steam tube [10] by turning the steam knob [6] anti-clockwise. Steam and some water will come from the steam wand. Turn off the steam by turning the steam knob into 0 position [6] clockwise.

  3. Immerse the steam tube [11] into the cup with cold milk and turn the steam knob [6] anti-clockwise.

  4. To end the milk frothing process turn the steam knob [6] into 0 position (clockwise). Take out

the steam tube [11] from the cup with milk. Never take the steam tube out of the cup if the steam knob is not turned off to position 0. Hot steam may cause injuries and scalds.

  1. After milk frothing it is advised to put the steam tube [11] into a cup with clean cold water and rinse the system. After the steam tube is immersed in the cup with water turn the steam knob [6] anti-clockwise. After few seconds, turn off the steam flow by turning steam [6] knob clockwise.

  2. Turn off the milk frothing mode by press the "steam switch" [3].

Regular descaling of coffee maker's water system

Depending on the hardness of the water descaling process must be performed every 2-3 months. Regular descaling of the machine protects the device and positively affects the taste and aroma of the beverage.

WARNING: Lack of descaling causes a significant drop in performance and can lead to damage of the device. Failure to descale the coffee maker will void the warranty.

Before descaling process, make sure that the device is disconnected from the power source.

1) Fill the water tank with about 500 ml of water, and then add 250 ml of descaling liquid for espresso machines (For a correct ratio refer to the manufacturers guide on the preparation

of descaling).

2) Place the filter holder into the filter holding mounting point. Place a cup with a little bit of cold water under the steam tube and place an empty cup under the filter holder outlets.
