OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Set-Up Instructions

Air tools require a supply of clean, dry air at 90 PSI (6.2 bar). An air supply system with filter, regulator, and lubricator (FRL) as shown in Figure 2 should be used.

Water in the air supply can damage the tool. Drain condensate from compressor tank and filter daily.

All hoses and fittings must be the correct size and tightly fastened. Refer to Chart 1 for minimum sizes.

TOOL AIR CONSUMPTION HOSE ID

Less than 9 SCFM @ 100% usage 1/4 inch

9 to 34 SCFM @ 100% usage 3/8 inch

Greater than 34 SCFM @ 100% usage 1/2 inch

Chart 1 - Suggested minimum hose diameter to use based on 50 ft length hose and continuous SCFM rating of tool. The use of fittings and longer hose may require a larger diameter hose to be used.

y the hose or pull the hose to move the tool or a compressor. Keep hoses away

from heat, oil and sharp edges. Replace any hose that is damaged, weak or worn.

Lubrication

Air tools require lubrication throughout the life of the tool and is the owner's responsibility. Failure to lubricate the air tool properly will dramatically shorten the life of the tool and will void the warranty.

Campbell Hausfeld TL053900 - Lubrication - 1

s lubrication BEFORE the initial use and BEFORE and AFTER each additional use.

AUTOMATIC LUBRICATION

The recommended method for lubrication is with an air line lubricator installed as part of the air piping system. See Figure 2. Use Campbell Hausfeld air tool oil ST1270 or equivalent ISO grade 32 oil.

MANUAL LUBRICATION

If an air line lubricator is not used, the tool must be lubricated daily.

Campbell Hausfeld TL053900 - MANUAL LUBRICATION - 1

pol from the air supply before lubricating.

  1. Disconnect the air tool from the air supply.
  2. Turn the air tool on its side with the inlet facing up.
  3. While pulling the trigger, squeeze a few drops of Campbell Hausfeld airtool oil in the air inlet.

Campbell Hausfeld TL053900 - MANUAL LUBRICATION - 2

been lubricated, oil will discharge through the exhaust port during the first

few seconds of operation. The exhaust port must be directed away from your body before applying air pressure.

  1. Connect the air tool to the air supply and cover the exhaust port with a towel. Cycle the tool several times. Oil will discharge from the exhaust port when air pressure is applied.

Operation

  1. Size nose piece to appropriate rivet mandrel diameter.
  2. Place rivet mandrel into nose piece.
  3. Insert rivet shank into pre-drilled hole of materials to be riveted.
  4. Squeeze trigger 1 to 2 times until rivet mandrel breaks off.
  5. Tilt tool back until mandrel falls into safety cap.
  6. Empty safety catch routinely.

Rivet Jaw Adjustment

  1. Hold rivet gun with nose cap pointing away from self. Remove chrome nose cap (See Figure 3).
  2. Use a 15 mm wrench to hold the jaw case and a 17 mm wrench to loosen the jam nut (See Figure 3).
  3. Turn jaw case counter-clockwise making jaws tighten on rivet. Turn clockwise to loosen jaws on rivet (See Figure 4).

NOTE: Only turn jaw housing in 1/4 turn increments.

  1. Tighten jam nut.
  2. Reassemble chrome nose cap.
  3. Check function of rivet in tool. Re-adjust again if necessary

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE(S) CORRECTIVE ACTION

Tool runs slowly or will not operate1. Grit or gum in tool 1. Flush the tool with CampbellHausfeld air tool oil, gum solvent,or an equal mixture of SAE 10motor oil and kerosene. If CampbellHausfeld oil is not used, lubricatethe tool after cleaning.2. No oil in tool 2. Lubricate the tool according tothe lubrication instructions in this manual.3. Low air pressure 3. Adjust the compressor regulator totool maximum while tool is running free.4. Air hose leaks 4. Tighten and seal hose fi ttings ifleaks are found.5. Pressure drops 5. Be sure air hose is properly sized.Long hoses or tools using large volumes of air may require a hose with an I.D. of 1/2 inch or largerdepending on total hose length.
Moisture blowing out of tool1. Water in tank 1. Drain tank (See air compressormanual). Oil tool and run until no water is evident. Oil tool again and trigger gun.2. Water in the air lines/ hoses 2. a. Install a water separator/fi lter (PA2121).NOTE: Separators work properly only when air steam is cool.Locate separator/fi lter as far as possible from compressor.2. b. Install an air dryer.2. c. If the original separator will not separate all the water from the air, install a Campbell Hausfeld belt air fi lter (PA2121).
Tool will not pull rivet mandrel1. Low hydraulic oil2. Worn jaws3. Jaws out of adjustment1. Add hydraulic oil (See Maintenance Section in manual).2. Replace jaws.3. Adjust jaws to fit correctly with rivet shank (See Operation Section in manual).

USER - MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

before attempting to install, service, relocate or perform any maintenance on the

air system. Personal injury and/or property damage could occur.

Hydraulic Cylinder

Occasionally, the hydraulic cylinder will need hydraulic fluid. To fill the hydraulic cylinder, follow the procedure outlined below (See Figure 5).

  1. Release all system pressure and disconnect the rivet gun.
  2. Hold gun upside down.
  3. Remove bottom plate and air piston.
  4. Look into small bore at bottom of chamber to check hydraulic oil level.
  5. Hydraulic oil level should be about 1/2" from top of small piston bore (total capacity: 60 - 70 cc).
