Frequently Asked Questions - FES 200 EDEN

How to install the Eden FES 200 filter for the first time?
Place the filter next to or below the aquarium (max delivery head 1.1 m). Rinse all filter media with hot water. Fill the container with water through the heater opening. Connect the hoses to the intake (IN) and return (OUT) units. Attach the tubes with suction cups in the aquarium. Plug the device into the mains; air will escape automatically.
What are the filter media and how to arrange them?
The filter contains (in flow order): one 10 ppi foam, one 20 ppi foam, two bags of ceramic substrate (420 g each), then two bags of activated carbon. For the FES 300, an additional 10 ppi foam is added. Follow the order indicated in the manual to optimize filtration.
How often should the filter foams be cleaned or replaced?
Clean the foams with hot water as soon as they are clogged (usually every 2 to 4 weeks). Replace them every 6 to 12 months depending on wear. To preserve the filter bacteria, clean or replace the foams in a staggered manner.
How to clean the ceramic substrate?
Rinse the ceramic substrate with hot water (no soap) during cleaning. Do not scrub vigorously to avoid damaging the bacteria. Replace it every 12 to 18 months or when clogged.
When should the activated carbon be replaced?
The activated carbon must be replaced every 4 to 6 weeks as it becomes saturated. Open the filter bag, replace the contents and close it. Used carbon no longer efficiently filters chemical impurities.
What to do if the water flow is insufficient?
First check the flow adjustment (turn the regulator to MAX). Clean the foams, substrate, carbon, hoses and intake strainer. If the problem persists, clean the rotor block of the pump or replace it if worn.
Can I install a heater in this filter?
Yes, the FES 200 can receive an optional EDEN RCA 200 heater using the conversion kit ref. 95498. Follow the assembly instructions: insert the heating tube into the designated housing and secure it with the pass-through ring. The heater is sold separately.
How to purge air from the filter after turning it on?
After startup, air escapes automatically through the air purge hose located in the device head. Make sure this hose is pointing upward. Gurgling noise is normal for a few minutes. If air persists, check that the purge hose is not blocked.
What to do if the filter does not start?
Check the mains voltage. Ensure the pump is not blocked (clean the rotor). Check that the height difference between the aquarium and the intake unit does not exceed 1.1 m. Fill the filter completely with water to avoid dry running.
How to maintain the motor block (operating unit)?
Disassemble the device head then remove the pump cover. For the FES 200, press the clip downward. Take out the rotor block and clean it with clear water and a soft brush. Reassemble, ensuring correct positioning of the elastic blocks and the air purge hose.

Function description

Drawn in by a pump in the unit head, the water flows through two filter chambers arranged next to each other. Then the water flows back into the aquarium via the flow-out pipe or water distributor.

Foam filters with different pore densities, and activated carbon/ceramic substrate serve as filter media.

In units with heater, the water is heated during its passage through the filter system.

Commissioning/start-up

NOTE

Never allow the pump to run dry. Otherwise the pump may be destroyed.

▶ Regularly check the water level and circulation in the filter and in the aquarium.

NOTE

Fire hazard due to highly flammable material on hot surface.

▶ Only switch on the heater when it is completely submerged in water.

Remove the packaging from the filter medium. Thoroughly rinse out all filter material with warm tap water before using for the first time in order to remove any soil-ing.(→ Cleaning/replacing the filter media)

How to proceed:

- Completely fill the container with water and place it next to the aquarium.

- Fill the container via the opening for the heater. For this, remove the heater or blind plug. (→Removing the heater)

- When starting it up for the first time, ensure that the connection unit is max. 80 cm below the surface of the water. Ensure that the water outlet (flow-out pipe or water distributor) is not submerged.

- A completely filled filter may be more than 80 cm below the surface of the water. Note the maximum head height. (→ Technical data)

  • Route each power connection cable such that it forms a drip loop.
  • Unit with heater: Set the water temperature on the heater. (→ Heater operating manual).

1. max. 0.8 m

2. 1.8 m

FST0023

Switching ON/switching OFF

Switching on: Connect the unit to the mains. The unit switches on immediately. When the unit is switched on, it takes several minutes for the air to escape from the unit (this makes a noise).

- Adjust the flow at the flow regulator if necessary. (→ Assembling the suction unit)

Switching off: Disconnect the unit from the mains.

- Unit with heater: Disconnect the unit and heater from the power supply

Maintenance and cleaning

  • If necessary, clean with clear water using a soft brush.
  • Do not use aggressive cleaning agents or chemical solutions as they could attack the housing or impair the function of the unit.
  • Cleaning and replacement cycles for filter media are dependent on the size of the aquarium and the number of fish. Therefore, it is necessary to clean and replace the filter media as required to ensure optimum filter performance.
  • If there are several foam filters: Clean or replace the foam filters at different times. This saves enough useful bacteria to ensure good biological filtration of the water.

Cleaning/replacing the filter media

Remove the packaging from the filter medium. Thoroughly rinse out all filter material with warm tap water before using for the first time in order to remove any soil-ing.(→ Cleaning/replacing the filter media)
