Basic safety instructions

- The appliance is intended to be used in household only and using in:

– staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments,
– in farm houses,
— by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments,
— on bed and breakfast type environments.

  • Have repairs of Cloer electronic appliances carried out only by authorized Cloer specialist dealers or by the Cloer customer service. Improper repairs can involve substantial dangers for the user. Furthermore, this will void your warranty claims.
  • Only operate the appliance at household-usual power sockets. Check if the mains voltage stated on the type plate is up to that of your power supply network.
  • The device must be connected to a power outlet with protective ground.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Cloer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
  • Pull power plug of the power socket

– in case of a defect,

- if the appliance is not used for a longer time,

– before any cleaning.

  • Only pull at the plug, never at the feed cable.
  • Do not stretch the feed cable over sharp edges and do not tighten it too tight, do not use it for carrying and protect it from heat (hotplate, for example).
  • Do not tighten the feed cable too tight as otherwise the appliance is likely to tip over. Do not stretch the feed cable over sharp edges.
  • This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised.
  • Do not leave children unattended to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
  • Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children less than 8 years.
  • Do not immerse the appliance in water.
  • Protect the appliance from humidity (splashing water or rain)
  • Let the appliance cool off before cleaning or stowing away. More information about proper cleaning on the following pages
  • Do not use the appliance outdoors.
  • This appliance should not be operated due to an external timer or separate remote control system.

Before the first use

Read these operating instructions carefully before using the appliance for the first time.

  • Remove all packing parts and possibly stickers, but not the type plate nor the serial number.
  • Place the waffle pie maker on a dry, non-slip, even surface.
  • Clean the baking surfaces with a moist cloth before
    • heating appliance the first time.
  • If you use recipes calling for starch or milk, grease the appliance occasionally to keep the waffles from sticking.
  • For reasons of hygiene, please do not consume the first 2 waffles.

Due to production residues smoke can occur in the first minutes. For that reason take care of a good aeration during first heating up.

ATTENTION! Always unplug the appliance when not in use and before cleaning.

- Use only wooden or heat-resistant plastic utensils to remove the waffles in order to prevent the non-stick coating from being scratched.

Preparation

  • Place the waffle cake iron in front of you so that the logo is facing up and the feed line is at the bottom.
  • To bake with filling, unfold the iron, pull the lid upwards towards the „thickens“ and position the spacer ring in the middle of the iron.
  • Open the iron, press the lid down towards „thinning“ and remove the spacer ring if you want to bake without filling.

Preheating

Plug the mains plug into the socket. As soon as the unit is connected, the red control lamp lights up. When the blue indicator light is on, the appliance has reached temperature and is preheated.

ATTENTION!

Appliance becomes hot. Do not touch any part of the appliance except the handles or the operating elements.

Baking without filling

  • Heat and prepare the iron as previously described.
  • Using a ladle, pour batter into the centre of the baking dish.
  • Close the lid and fasten it to the handle lock.
  • Turn the iron over so that the waffle cake bakes evenly on both sides.
  • Bake the waffle cake until the blue light comes on.
  • Turn the iron back to the original position, open the lid and remove the wafer cake.
  • If the desired degree of browning has not yet been reached, wait another moment.

Baking with filling

  • Heat and prepare the iron as previously described.
  • Using a ladle, pour the batter into the centre of the baking tin so that the bottom is covered with batter.
  • Place the desired filling in the centre.
  • When using ingredients from a jar or can, it is important to drain the liquid as much as possible. So that the consistency is not too liquid and the waffle cake can bake well.
  • Now add another ladleful of batter until the filling is covered.
  • Make sure that no more than 3/4 of the mould is filled so that no dough runs out.
  • Close the lid and fasten it to the handle lock.
  • Turn the iron over so that the waffle cake bakes evenly on both sides.
  • Do not open the iron until the minimum baking time of 8-9 minutes has elapsed.
  • If the desired degree of browning has not yet been reached, wait another moment.

Cleaning

  • Clean the appliance while it is still warm with a paper towel.
  • Remove the spacer ring and clean it with a clean cloth.
  • Finally, clean the iron with a damp cloth, but never under running water.
  • Do not use harsh cleaning agents.
  • TIP: Place two absorbent kitchen towels between the baking surfaces and fold the appliance shut.

Recipe

Original Cloer - Traditional Original Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 eggs
  • 200 g sugar
  • Grated untreated lemon or 1 bottle of lemon flavouring
    • 2 cl rum or 1 bottle of rum flavouring
  • Fruit pulp of a vanilla pod or 1 bottle of vanilla flavouring
    • or 1 packet of vanilla sugar 200 g butter or margarine
  • 500 g flour
    • 1 sachet cream of tartar baking powder
    • 125 ml mineral water (sparkling)

Preparation:

All ingredients should be at room temperature. The butter should be very soft but not heated. Whip the eggs, sugar and flavourings with a food processor until they have more than doubled in volume. Now add the very soft but not runny butter and beat until all the ingredients have combined into a homogeneous mass.

Add about 2/3 of the flour and mineral water alternately to the dough.

Mix the last third of flour with the baking powder and add to the bowl alternately with water. Stir in enough water so that the dough is still thick but flows well from the spoon.

Leave the dough to rest for at least 30 minutes, but no longer than an hour. The dough will become thicker as it rests. It should not be stirred any more.

Pour the batter into the back half of the baking tin of the Cloer Waffle Iron and quickly close the lid.

Press the handles firmly together for a few seconds and bake the waffle until it is golden brown.

Spicy waffle cakes

for approx. 8 waffle cakes (depending on filling)

Ingredients:

• 250g spelt flour, finely ground
• 1 tsp. Tartar baking powder
• 200 ml milk, some mineral water
- Sea salt
• 125 g melted butter
• 3 eggs
- 50 g grated cheese
• 2 tbsp sunflower seeds
- 2 bunch chives

Preparation:

Mix the spelt flour with the baking powder. Mix with milk, salt, melted butter and eggs. Leave to soak for approx. 20 minutes. Add the cheese, sunflower seeds and chives. If the dough is too thick, add mineral water and dilute it Proceed as described under Baking with or without filling.
