3. Functions
The carbon monoxide detector measures the CO value in the surrounding environment. If the CO content of the ambient air reaches a critical value and represents a danger to humans and animals, the detector emits a warning signal.
4. What is carbon monoxide?
Carbon monoxide is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas which can barely be perceived by the human senses. It is generated during the incomplete oxidation of substances containing carbon, such as wood, charcoal, fuel oil, petrol or gas.
Carbon monoxide kills or harms hundreds of people every year. It binds the haemoglobin in the blood and reduces the amount of oxygen in the body. In high concentrations, carbon monoxide can poison a person within minutes.
5. Positioning the carbon monoxide detector
If you only have a single-storey apartment, you should install a CO detector in the bedroom, in the corridor or near the sleeping area as the minimum protection required. In any case, ensure that the alarm is clearly audible in the sleeping area. If your home has multiple storeys, ensure that at least one CO detector is located on each floor. For optimal protection, a detector should be installed in every room or near all rooms, where a fuel-burning appliance such as a fireplace or a stove is available.

Caution! This device only indicates the presence of carbon monoxide gas that is close to the sensor. This means that carbon dioxide could also be present in other areas!
Please note that the carbon dioxide detector does not serve as a substitute for a smoke or gas detector.
5.1 Installation
To use the detector efficiently, the device should be installed at least 1.5 meters above the ground and at least 1.85 meters away from the corresponding fuel-burning equipment.

The following areas should be avoided:
- Places where the temperature falls below -10 °C or rises above 40 °C
- Places with a damp environment
- Places with a lot of dust, dirt or grease deposits
Behind curtains or furniture - Positioning in / on air outlet of an oven
Near fans or air conditioners
Outside the building - Directly above a wash basin or a stove

Caution!
The carbon monoxide detector is designed only for interior use. Do not expose the device to any moisture or rain.
The product does not warn against carbon monoxide exposure if the batteries are empty.
Do not open or tamper with the device since this could result in malfunctions.
The installation should not be used as a substitute for proper installation, use and maintenance of fuel-operated devices, including associated ventilation and exhaust systems.
6. Using and installing the carbon monoxide detector for the first time
The carbon monoxide detector is operated with 3x 1.5V AA batteries and does not require any extra wiring. Take the device out of the package and remove all the packaging material. Open the battery compartment on the rear side of the device and insert 3x 1.5V AA batteries. Pay attention to the correct polarity of the batteries.
You will hear a beep after inserting the batteries. Then press the "test/hush" key once briefly to make sure that the device alarm is working.
You can install the device either on the wall or place it on a table for example.
Test if the device is working each time after changing the batteries (TEST/ HUSH key).
6.1 Wall assembly
After selecting the installation place and setting it up, ensure that no electrical wiring or pipelines are present in this area.
Finally, mark the mounting holes and do the drilling at the marked places.
Tighten a screw in each of the two holes and ensure that the screw head projects by approx. 4 mm.
Subsequently, insert 3x1.5V AA batteries into the battery compartment of the device and then close the compartment.
Hang up the carbon monoxide detector at the fixed screws.
Please read chapters 6 and 6.1 on wall assembly in this user manual.
6.2 Pedestal assembly
Alternatively, you can put the CO detector at the place you desire. Select the location so that the display can be clearly seen and the device does not topple over. Please read chapters 6 and 6.1 in this user manual for pedestal assembly.
7. Trigger sensitivity
If the device records increased CO values, an alarm signal sounds and the red LED starts blinking. At the same time the current CO value is displayed on the display of the device. If the CO concentration is down to around 30 ppm, the device switches off the alarm. The product comes with a feature that detects a persistently low CO concentration and alerts the user that there is the CO concentration is low. If this case the device beeps 5 times every 5 minutes and the red LED blinks 5 times.
8. Normal operating mode
If no carbon monoxide is present, the green LED blinks every 50 seconds and the display shows "0 PPM".
8.2 Test the carbon monoxide detector
Press the key "test/hush" on the front side of the device. It simulates now a high CO concentration. The carbon monoxide detector detects the increased value, as
| CO concentration No | alarm under Alarm | within |
| 30 ppm 120 min - | ||
| 50 ppm 60 min 90 min | ||
| 100 ppm 10 min 40 min | ||
| 300 ppm - 3 min |
a result of which the alarm signal sounds and the red LED blinks. In the display, the current CO value and a speaker symbol appear.
Note: It is recommended to test the carbon monoxide detector once a month to ensure that the device is working properly.
8.3 Lock alarm
Heavy vapours or the like can also trigger an alarm. When the alarm signal sounds, by pressing the "test / hush" button, the device can be muted for approximately 2 minutes. In this period, the green and the red LEDs blink every 10 seconds and a beep sounds. The detector will not activate any more during these 2 minutes.

If the CO concentration is still in the danger zone after these 2 minutes, then the alarm sounds again. If the concentration sinks to a safe range, then the device stops the alarm.
8.4 Unlock alarm
To unlock the alarm again, press the "test / hush" button. The carbon monoxide detector subsequently will work normally again, indicated by the green LED blinking every 50 seconds and the display showing the current PPM value.
8.5 Warning mode
If the device detects an increased CO value and the alarm sounds, but nobody is at home, the device stops the alarm as soon as the value is back within the normal range. The highest measured CO concentration is now shown on the display every 45 seconds. The device beeps 4 times and the red LED blinks 4 times every 50 seconds. Press the "test/hush" key to delete the stored maximum value. The device subsequently returns to the normal operating mode.
8.6 Low battery
The carbon monoxide detector recognises when the battery voltage is too low and the batteries should be exchanged. The red LED blinks every 40 seconds and an alert beep sounds. A battery symbol is displayed on the display. If the battery level is low, the device still functions properly but the batteries of the carbon monoxide detector must be replaced without delay.
8.7 Manual reset
A manual reset of the display is possible only if the current value is under 10 PPM. To reset the display value to 0 PPM, press and hold the "test / hush" key for approx. 3 seconds until the PPM sign is no longer displayed on the screen. Then, release the key.
The manual reset can be carried out under the following conditions:

- The CO concentration on the display is less than 10 PPM
- The first digital display shows "-"
8.8 Self test
This device carries out a self test every 10 seconds. If an error occurs during this test, the device beeps every 40 seconds. At the same time, the yellow LED light blinks. The display shows "---". In this case, reset the device. If the error persists, exchange the device immediately.
8.9 End of service life of the CO detector
If the product has reached the end of its service life (approx. 7 - 10 years), a beep sounds 3 times in succession every 60 seconds and at the same time the yellow LED blinks.
The device must then be replaced because the sensors can no longer reliably detect the CO2 levels.
8.10 Calibration
The calibration can only be carried out by experts. Never calibrate this device by yourself!
The calibration is carried out with a gas concentration of 400 PPM. This will not reduce the accuracy of the unit. Each device was calibrated before delivery. Press the "test / hush" key until all 3 LEDs light up. Then release the "test / hush" key. The green and the yellow LEDs switch off and only the red LED is on.
This means that the calibration mode is activated for 5 minutes. If the device cannot measure any CO concentration within these 5 minutes, the calibration mode ends automatically. After calibration with carbon monoxide has been carried out, all 3 LEDs light up 3 times. The calibration is now completed successfully.

Note: This device requires a minimum CO concentration of 250
PPM for calibration. If the CO concentration is less than 250 PPM, the previous calibration values are not overwritten.
If the CO concentration on the display is above 30 PPM, the unit leaves automatically the calibration mode to avoid a malfunction. If the calibration mode is triggered accidentally, the "test/hush" button should be pressed once to end this mode.

9. When the CO alarm is triggered
If you hear the alarm signal of the carbon monoxide detector, please take the following measures immediately:
-
Be calm and open all windows and doors first to increase ventilation.
-
Turn off all combustion devices and make sure they are actually turned off.
-
Press the "TEST/HUSH" button to stop the alarm. Please do not enter the area again until the CO concentration drops back to a non-critical level.
-
If the CO concentration is still critical after the muting time of 2 minutes, the CO alarm sounds again.
-
Leave the building if the carbon monoxide level is high or if the source cannot be determined immediately. If necessary, please alert other occupants.
-
Then call the fire brigade or appropriate emergency services. Always follow their instructions. In this case, indicate that carbon monoxide may have been inhaled. Do not restart the fireplace until the cause of the carbon monoxide emission has been professionally determined and rectified.
-
Check if the carbon monoxide detector is working after an alarm by pressing the "TEST/HUSH" button. Replace the batteries of the device if necessary.
-
In case of extremely high levels of carbon monoxide and if the source cannot be determined or eliminated, you should immediately go outdoors and alert other occupants. Call the fire brigade and rescue teams immediately and follow their instructions.
