2.6 Device description

The dust extractor S 25 M / S 25 L is a combination device (COMB) for use as dry and wet extractor.

Wet suction cleaning should be carried out without filter bag. The filter cartridges are suitable for wet suction cleaning.

• INDUSTRIAL VACUUM CLEANER (IV) exclusively for vacuuming deposited dust.
• DEDUSTER (DED) exclusively for extracting airborne dust from individual sources of dust, such as it arises for instance during machining and processing on machines and hand-operated equipment.

The dust extractor S 25 M / S 25 L, used as deduster, is suitable for the extraction of dry wood dust and dry shavings at individual sources of dust. If the deduster is duly connected to a hand-operated wood working machine with a dust source (for instance circular saw, planing machine, belt sander) and operated according to the instructions, the required extraction performance and separation quality are always guaranteed.

2.7 Safety devices

Danger

These devices are required for the machine's safe operation and may not be removed or rendered inoperative.

• All mobile machine parts driven by electric motors are covered by stationary, securely fastened protective enclosures that can only be removed with the aid of tools.
• Testing according to EN 60335-1 and EN 60335-2-69 showed that the safety requirements with regard to the electrical safety are also met when a water-air-mixture is vacuumed.
• The dust extractor is suitable for increased loads in case of commercial use. According to EN 60335-1 and EN 60335-2-69.

2.8 Use according to intended purpose

Danger

In general, it is not permitted to vacuum any combustible or explosive solvents, liquids such as petrol, oil, alcohol, thinners or materials with a temperature in excess of 60 °C. Otherwise there will be danger of explosion and fire! The dust extractor is not suitable for extracting dusts that are hazardous to health.

Dust extractors class M are suitable for vacuuming/extracting dry, non-combustible dusts, non-combustible liquids, wood dusts and hazardous dusts with STELs >0.1mg/m^3 .

Dust extractors class L are not suitable for vacuuming/extracting harmful dusts.

The dust extractor S 25 M / S 25 L is particularly suited for vacuuming off electrical tools. Further applications are at the construction site where large amounts of moist and dry fine dust arise, for inside cleaning of motor vehicles and everywhere moist and dry materials have to be disposed of, mopping water has to be vacuumed, clogged water basins and drains have to be emptied, "flooding" in bath, kitchen or basement has to be removed or the bothersome puddle in front of the front door has to disappear.

Any other use than described above is not permissible. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any damage arising from such other use.

To use the device as intended, observe the operating, maintenance and repair conditions prescribed by Mafell.

This device is also not suitable for operation outdoors in the rain or in rooms with potentially explosive atmospheres.

The dust extractor S 25 M / S 25 L may only be used, set up and serviced by persons who are acquainted with the device and have been instructed about the hazards involved. Corrective maintenance work must be carried out by MAFELL authorised dealers or MAFELL customer service stations.

The safety instructions applicable in the respective country of use as well as other generally recognised rules pertaining to safety and occupational health must be observed.

2.9 Residual risks

Danger

Even if used in accordance with its intended purpose and despite conforming with the safety instructions, residual risks caused by the intended use will always remain.

• Touching live parts with the housing open and the mains plug not removed.

• Emission of dusts in case of operation over a longer period of time with damaged folded filter 5 (fig. 2), filter bag 8 (fig. 4) or motor protection filter (fig. 2) in closed rooms without adequate ventilation.

• While exchanging a filter bag or emptying the container, the inhalation of dust cannot be ruled out (respiratory protection).

• Unauthorised changes to the device exclude the manufacturer's liability for any damages resulting thereof.

3 Safety instructions

Danger

Always observe the following safety instructions and the safety regulations applicable in the respective country of use!

Caution

It is vital to avoid sucking in ignition sources in order to avoid explosions

Caution: The dust extractor/vacuum cleaner must be emptied after work, at the latest at the end of the shift.

• The voltage on the device rating plate must agree with the mains voltage.
• The socket outlet must be protected by means of a domestic fuse of suitable amperage (16 A).
• Do not put device including accessories into operation, if :

– the device exhibits visible damage (cracks/fissures),
– the mains connection is defective or exhibits fissuring or ageing,
- an invisible defect is suspected (after a drop).

- Do not use any damaged extension cables.

- Do not point nozzle, hose or tube at people or animals.

- Particular care should be exercised when vacuuming stairs. Pay attention to safe footing.

- The socket outlet on the device may only be used for the purposes defined in the operating instructions.

- Never work without the protection devices prescribed for the respective operating sequence and do not make any changes to the device that could impair safety.

- When operating the device outdoors, the use of an earth-leakage circuit-breaker is recommended.

- Damaged cables or plugs must be immediately replaced. Replacement may only be carried out by Mafell or an authorised MAFELL service workshop in order to avoid safety hazards.

- Children and adolescents may not operate this device. This rule does not apply to young persons receiving training and being supervised by an expert.

- Switch off the device before carrying out maintenance and after every use and unplug the power plug.

- Always check before starting any work whether the suction hoses are safely attached and undamaged.

- Do not pull the plug by its cable out of the socket outlet.

- Pull out the power plug prior to cleaning or emptying and prior to eliminating any malfunctions.

- Pay attention that the cable is protected against oil and heat and cannot be damaged by being driven over, crushed or pulled.

- Consider environmental influences. Do not expose the device to rain and avoid working near combustible liquids or gases.

- Store the device in a dry, locked place outside the reach of children.

- Regular cleaning of the device is an important safety factor. Pull the plug before starting this work.

- The device must be set up on level ground such that it can neither tilt over nor roll away (lock steering rollers).

- To be able to safely operate and maintain the device, the place of installation should be chosen such that lateral clearances of 0.3 m and a clear height of 2 m can be maintained.

• The cleaned air may only be recirculated to those workspaces from where it was extracted; i.e. the electronic tool and the dust extractor may only be operated in the same workspace.
• In case of leaking foam or water, immediately switch off the device. Empty container and where necessary folded filter.
• Acid, acetone and solvents may corrode device components.
• Do not leave the device unattended. Pull the power plug in case of longer work interruptions.
• If the device's connecting cable is damaged, it must be replaced by a special connecting cable that is available from the manufacturer or his after-sales service.
• Have repairs only carried out by skilled workers, e.g. by the after-sales service. If not professionally repaired, devices will constitute a danger for the user.
• Only use original MAFELL spare parts, accessories or special accessories. Otherwise, the manufacturer will not accept any warranty claims and cannot be held liable.
• No work other than described in this document may be carried out.
• The manufacturer will not accept any liability for possible damages arising from misuse, inappropriate operation or unprofessional repair.

4 Setting / Adjustment

4.1 Assembly

• Pay attention that the container's two snap locks have safely engaged in the recesses on the motor hood.
• Push the suction hose fitting over the container's suction opening and turn it until the hose fitting engages.

4.2 Mains connection

The dust extractor S 25 M / S 25 L is equipped with protective earthing acc. to class I and may therefore only be connected to sockets with protective earth conductor.

Prior to commissioning make sure that the mains voltage agrees with the operating voltage stated on the machine's rating plate.

4.3 Changing the folded filter cartridge

• Shake off the folded filter cartridges before changing the filter.
• Using a coin or similar object, turn the catch 7 (fig. 1) on locking bolt 9 anticlockwise by 90° and push the locking bolt 9 to the rear.
• Swing open the hood and remove the filter cartridge 5 (fig. 5) towards the top.
• Immediately seal the removed folded filter cartridges in a dust-tight plastic bag and dispose of in accordance with the instructions.
• Insert the new filter cartridges and pay attention to a neat and tight fit of the filters.
• Fold down the hood and return to its initial position by slightly pressing on the locking bolt 9 (fig. 1). The device is now once more closed.

4.3.1 Changing the motor protection filter

The folded filter cartridges are located next to the motor protection filter 6 (fig. 2). If they are heavily soiled, rinse out and reinsert in dry condition. Damaged motor protection filters must be replaced.

4.4 Changing the filter bags

Danger

This device may contain hazardous dust. Emptying and maintenance operations including the disposal of dust collection containers may only be carried out with appropriate protective equipment.

The filter bag must be changed if the control display blinks during operation and an additional acoustic signal is sounded.

4.4.1 Changing the non-woven filter bag

• Switch off the device to change the non-woven filter bag.
• Pull the dust extractor's plug.

• Open the snap locks 10 (fig. 1).

• Detach the upper part of the dust extractor from the container 12 (fig. 4).

• Pull the filter bag carefully from the intake port.
• Close the flange of the filter bag by turning down the cover.

4.4.2 Changing the PE-discharge and disposal bag

• PE-discharge and disposal bag: Switch on dust extractor, shake off folded filter cartridges. Switch on dust extractor.
• Wear mouth guard.
• Remove suction hose, close intake port with cap 14 (fig. 6).
• Open lateral locks, remove top part. Before putting down the top part, switch on at switch position >IR< so that possibly released airborne particles are extracted.
• Carefully seal PE-discharge and disposal bag with the enclosed sealing tape.
• Pull flange carefully off the intake port and close.
• Carefully remove PE-discharge and disposal bag from the container.
• Dispose of extracted material in accordance with the legal provisions.

4.5 Disposal of filter bags

Dispose of the filter bag in an impervious bag in compliance with the valid regulations for the disposal of such wastes.

• Filter bags, filled with normal domestic dirt are disposed of with the normal domestic waste.
• PE-discharge and disposal bag, filled with hazardous waste: Enquire at your municipality or at the responsible authority.

4.6 Inserting the filter bag

4.6.1 Inserting the non-woven filter bag

- Pull the flange completely over the intake port.

Operation of the rotary valve

- Set the red rotary valve* inside to CLOSE and turn until it reaches the stop at the mark ▲.

- Put top part onto container and close lateral locks.

4.6.2 Inserting the PE-discharge and disposal bag

Only dust extractors class S25L/S25M with special container and rotary valve in the intake port of types S25L/S25M are suitable for use with PE-discharge and disposal bags.

Operation of the rotary valve

- Set the red rotary valve* inside to OPEN and turn until it reaches the stop at the mark ▲.

- Push flange completely over intake port, place top opening of bag across rim of container.

- Put top part onto container and close lateral locks.

4.7 Emptying the container

Only permissible for dusts with STELs > 1mg/m3

Switch off suction device, pull power plug.

• Open locks.
• Remove cover and suction hose from container.
• Tip out container.

5 Operation

Danger

The dust extractor is not suitable for extracting dusts that are hazardous to health.

5.1 Switching on and off

Switch positions for IV operation (industrial vacuum cleaner) (fig. 1)

0 = Off

I = On (manual operation)

The volume flow display is switched over to a fixed value which causes the signal lamp to blink if the air speed drops below 20 m/s.

A = Stand-by mode for automatic switch on/off function (dust extractor is switched on and off by the electrical tool).

RA = Device models with "RA" equipment can be operated as under "A". Filters are cleaned automatically on reaching the set minimum flow rate during the next work break (switch position RA).

The dust extractor S 25 M / S 25 L is equipped with an electronic suction force regulator. The turning knob 2 can be used to adapt the suction power to the material to be vacuumed.

The socket outlet 4 is provided for the connection of an electrical tool (A/RA mode).

Danger

The electrical tool must be switched off when it is connected. When the power plug is plugged in, the socket outlet is always live, irrespective of the switch position. In switch position "0", the socket outlet can be used as extension cord (e.g. for lamp). Connected load: Dust extractor and connected device max. 16 A.

To avoid excessive start-up peaks, the dust extractor is equipped with a starting current limit (soft start).

Danger

While the dust extractor motor is coasting down, the operating mode selection switch may not be turned until the dust extractor has come to a standstill, otherwise the device must afterwards be switched via the 0-position to guarantee the perfect functioning of the electronic system.

5.2 Hints and information

• When vacuuming dry materials, the folded filter 5 (fig. 2) must be completely dry.
• During wet vacuuming, the built-in sensor prevents the maximum filling level in the container from being exceeded. The device no longer vacuums when the container is full. Switch off motor. Pull the dust extractor plug and empty the container.
• If the sensor responds when vacuuming larger amounts of liquid (more than one container filling), switch off the device and empty the container.
• If the volume flow display 3 (fig. 1) lights up on restart, this may have the following reasons:
• Container, filter bag 8 (fig. 4) full.
  – Extraction hose clogged.
  – Air cross sections of the dust generator too small.

On completion of work, but especially if you do not intend to use the device for a longer period of time, you should:

• Discharge any dirt and liquids.
• Store the extraction hose such that there are no kinks.
• Neatly reel up the mains cable and protect it against damage.

6 Service and maintenance

Danger

Pull the power plug during all service work.

After longer periods of operation, MAFELL recommends to take the device to an authorised MAFELL customer service shop for inspection.

The storage place must be dry and frost-protected. If the device fails despite diligent manufacturing and test procedures, the repair must be carried out by an authorised customer service station for MAFELL products.

Danger

Only use MAFELL accessories and spare parts. Have components, the replacement of which has not been described in this document, replaced at a MAFELL customer service station.

6.1 Maintenance

For maintenance by the user, the device must be disassembled, cleaned and serviced as far as this is feasible without causing any danger for the maintenance personnel and other persons. Suitable precautions include cleaning before disassembly, providing for locally filtered forced venting at the place where the device is disassembled, cleaning the maintenance area and suitable personal protective clothing.

On machines class M, the outside of the machine should be cleaned by means of dust extraction methods and wiped clean or should be treated with sealant before they are removed from the hazardous area.

All machine parts must be considered contaminated if they are removed from the hazardous area and suitable action must be taken to avoid the dust from being dispersed. Such objects must be disposed of in impervious bags in compliance with the valid regulations for the disposal of such waste.

When carrying out maintenance or repair work, all soiled objects which cannot be cleaned in a satisfactory manner must be disposed of. Such objects must be disposed of in impervious bags in compliance with the valid regulations for the disposal of such waste.

6.2 Servicing

If the dust extractor's suction performance decreases, and even cleaning the filters 5 (fig. 2) after replacement of the filter bag 8 (fig. 4) does not increase the suction performance any more, the folded filter cartridges 5 (fig. 2) must be renewed.

Usually it is sufficient to clean the folded filter cartridges 5 from time to time, using a soft brush and water. Allow to dry before reinserting, to prevent the dust from clinging to the moist filter.

To avoid heavy soiling of container and filter, remove dry material from the container before vacuuming liquids. Dry suction cleaning only with completely dried-out device. Do not clean container and accessories with abrasive commercial detergents.

Regularly clean the water sensors 13 (fig. 3) and check them for possible damages.

6.3 Motor protection filter

The folded filter cartridges are located next to the motor protection filter 6 (fig. 2). If they are heavily soiled, rinse out and reinsert in dry condition. Damaged motor protection filters must be replaced.

7 Disposal information

• Filter bags, filled with normal domestic dirt are disposed of with the normal domestic waste.
• Filter bags, filled with hazardous waste:
  Enquire at your municipality or at the responsible authority.
• The folded filter cartridge is disposed of as hazardous waste in a plastic bag, if necessary.

8 Troubleshooting

Danger

Determining the causes for existing defects and eliminating these always requires increased attention and caution. Pull the mains plug beforehand!

Some of the most frequent defects and their causes are listed in the following chart. In case of other defects, contact your dealer or the MAFELL customer service.

GARANTIEGegen Vorlage der Garantieunterlage (Original-Kaufbeleg) werden innerhalb der jeweils gültigen Gewährleistungsregelungen kostenlos alle Reparaturen ausgeführt, die nach unseren Feststellungen wegen Material-, Bearbeitungs- und Montagefehlern erforderlich sind. Verbrauchs- und Verschleißteile sind hiervon ausgeschlossen. Hierzu muss die Maschine bzw. das Gerät frachtfrei an das Werk oder an eine MAFELL-Kundendienststelle geschickt werden. Vermeiden Sie, die Reparatur selbst zu versuchen, da dadurch der Garantieanspruch erlischt. Für Schäden, die durch unsachgemäße Behandlung oder durch normalen Verschleiß entstanden sind, wird keine Haftung übernommen.

WARRANTYUpon presentation of the warranty document (original invoice), we will carry out all repairs free of charge in accordance with the applicable warranty provisions, processing and mounting faults free of charge on presentation of this properly filled-in Guarantee Certificate and your original receipt. This is not valid for consumables and wearing parts. For this purpose, the machine or the appliance is to be forwarded freight paid to our plant or to an authorized MAFELL repair service. Refrain from trying to carry out the repairs yourself as otherwise your warranty claim will become extinct. We do not accept any liability for any damage resulting from improper handling or normal wear.

GARANTIESur présentation de cette carte de garantie, duement remplie par votre fournisseur et accompagnée de l'original de la pièce justifiant l'achat, nous effectuerons gratuitement toutes les réparations faisant l'objet d'un recours en garantie pendant la période indiquée, de la construction ou de la fabrication, à l'exclusion des pièces de consommation et d'usure. GARANZIADietro presentazione del presente certificato di garanzia, regolarmente compilato, insieme alla ricevuta originale, vengono eseguite gratuitamente tutte le riparazioni necessarie riscontrate dai nostri accertamenti, entro il periodo di garanzia vigente, dovuti a difetti di materiale, di lavorazione o di montaggio. Da ciò sono esclusi pezzi di consumo e pezzi soggetti ad usura. A questo scopo la macchina ovvero l'apparecchio (elettrico) va spedito franco di porto allo stabilimento oppur e a d un punto di assistenza clienti della MAFELL. Evitate di tentare Voi stessi di effettuare la riparazione, altrimenti il diritto di garanzia viene revocato. Non ci assumiamo alcuna responsabilità per danni derivanti da trattamento non conforme o da normale usura.

GARANTIETegen vertoon van dit reglementair ingevuld garantie-bewijs, samen met het originele koopbewijs worden binnen de telkens geldige garantieregelingen gratis alle reparaties uitgevoerd, die volgens onzeconstateringen op grond van materiaal-, bewerkings- en montagefouten vereist zijn. Verbruik- en slijtagedelen zijn hiervan uitgesloten. Hiervoor moet de machine resp. het apparaat vrachtvrij naar de fabriek of naar een MAFELL-klantenservice worden gestuurd. Vermijdt u het de reparatie zelf uit te voeren, omdat daardoor de garantieclaim vervalt. Voor schade die door ondeskundige behandeling of door normale slijtage is ontstaan, wordt geen aansprakelijkheid aanvaardt.

GARANTÍAPresentando este documento de garantía (recibo original de compra), todas las reparaciones necesarias por defectos de material, errores de mecanizado o faltas de montaje en el marco de las reglamentaciones de la garantía concedida por parte del fabricante se efectuarán libre de gastos. Se excluyen sin embargo piezas fungibles o de desgaste. Para ello, entregue a porte pagado la máquina o el equipo a las fábricas del fabricante o a uno de los puntos de asistencia técnica de MAFELL. No realice nunca las tareas de reparación a cuenta propia. De lo contrario, caducará el derecho a garantía. No se asumirá responsabilidad alguna por los daños que se desprendan del uso inapropiado ni por el desgaste en el uso diario.

TAKUUTätä takuukuittia (alkuperäinen ostokuitti) vastaan suoritetaan voimassa olevan takuuajan sisällä maksutta kaikki korjaukset, jotka olemme todenneet tarpeellisiksi materiaial-, valmistus- ja asennusvirheistä johtuen. Käyttö- ja kuluvat osat ei kuulu takuupiriin. Korjausta varten kone tai laite on lähetettävä asianmukaisesti postitettuna joko tehtaalle tai johonkin MAFELL-asiakaspalveluun. Älä yritä korjata konetta itse, koska siinä tapauksessa takuu sammuu. Takuu ei vastaa vahingoista, jotka johtuvat asiaankuulumattomasta käytöstä tai normaalista kulumisesta.

Мы не несем ответственности на вред, причиненный в результате неправильного обращения или естественного износа.

GWARANCJAPo przedstawieniu gwarancji (oryginału dowodu zakupu) wykonane zostaną w ramach terminu gwarancji wszelkiego rodzaju naprawy, które według naszej oceny są konieczne z powodu błędów materialowych oraz błędów przy obróbce i montażu.Nie dotyczy to części zamienne i zużywalne. Prosimy o przeslanie maszyny wzgl. urządzenia na nasz koszt do zakładu lub serwisu MAFELL. Unikać dokonywania samodzielnych napraw, gdyż powoduje to utratę roszczeń gwarancyjnych. Nie przejmujemy odpowiedzialności za szkody powstałe w wyniku niefachowej obsługi lub normalnego zużycia.
