2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
2.1. SCOPE OF DELIVERY
The scope of delivery includes a battery powered NOVAFON vibration sound wave device (see section 2.2), a disc attachment, a ball attachment, a power plug, a USB-C charging cable, instructions for use and an adapter for optional attachments.
2.2. DEVICE TYPES
NOVAFON vibration sound wave devices are designed for local vibration therapy. Different attachments are used to transmit the mechanical vibrations into the tissue. The NOVAFON vibration sound wave device is used mainly for pain therapy and neurorehabilitation. Thanks to its safe and simple application, local vibration therapy can be used in many ways. The device is equally suitable for professional use and home use. The NOVAFON vibration sound wave device can be used in speech therapy, occupational therapy and physiotherapy as well as for private use at home. The two treatment frequencies (50 Hz and 100 Hz) and three intensity levels for each frequency (light, medium, strong) allow the treatment to be individually adapted to the body part to be treated and the underlying symptoms.

3. OPERATION
3.1. FIRST USE
Charge the device fully before using it for the first time (section 3.3). Switch on the NOVAFON device by pressing the on/off button once. The device starts at 100 Hz (●) by default. Pressing the button again decreases the frequency to 50 Hz (●). The current frequency selection is indicated by the LED display (frequencies). Press the button a third time to switch off the device.
3.2. ADJUSTING THE INTENSITY
Adjust the intensity by pressing the Intensity setting button repeatedly. You can select between three intensity levels: light (☑), medium (☑) and strong (☑). The intensity level is indicated by the LED display (intensity). The device always starts at the lowest intensity level (☑). This also corresponds to the NOVAFON treatment recommendation, i.e. starting with a low intensity and gradually increasing it according to need and personal comfort.
NOTE: The best vibration is achieved when the device is operated without additional contact pressure.
3.3. CHARGING
To charge the device, only use the included power adapter and USB-C cable or the NOVAFON Charging Stand (not included). To charge the device, first connect the cable to the device or to the charging stand and then to the power adapter suitable for your power connection. Only then plug the mains adapter into the socket. Charge the device until the charge display (LED) no longer flashes. Do not use the NOVAFON device during charging. As soon as the LED display no longer flashes, the NOVAFON device is fully ready to use. The device has a low battery display. If the charge display (LED) starts flashing rapidly, you can continue using your NOVAFON device for another 10 minutes. The device then switches off automatically. If you use the charging stand for charging, make sure to place the appliance carefully on the USB port. When removing, hold the charging stand down
and pull the device out carefully. The device is charging when the display (LED) lights up. Avoid twisting the appliance in the charging stand as this will prevent damage.
3.4. ATTACHMENTS
The attachments are fixed to the device via a plug connection. They can easily be detached by turning them a quarter turn and pulling them gently off the device. The attachments click simply onto the device. The attachments are in the correct position when the brackets on the device and the attachment lie seamlessly on top of each other. The magnets help you to find the final position. Before starting treatment, make sure that the respective attachment is engaged in the intended final position.
Please refer to the drawing on page 28 for the correct position of the attachment on the device.
4. APPLICATION & USE
The local vibration therapy with the NOVAFON vibration sound wave device can be used as an aid in treating a number of diseases of the musculoskeletal and the nervous system. NOVAFON vibration sound wave devices are used by doctors and therapists in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain (e.g. muscle or joint pain) and in the rehabilitation of neurological diseases (e.g. spasticity or Hemineglect after a stroke). Due to their simple handling, the devices can also be used in the home environment. Please bear in mind that NOVAFON vibration sound wave devices can only alleviate symptoms but never actually cure the underlying disease, nor are they a replacement for a doctor's visit. Despite being safe, simple and non-invasive, we recommend that you discuss the treatment with your doctor or therapist. If symptoms get worse, seek medical advice. Discontinue the treatment immediately, if you experience nausea, dizziness, increased pain, or skin irritation. Please be aware of the contraindications listed in section 5.
4.1. SELF-APPLICATION AT HOME
Pain is a common symptom of acute and chronic diseases, such as epi-condylitis, tendinitis, myalgia or fibromyalgia, which can be reduced by local vibration therapy. ^1 Taking into account the contraindications (chapter 5), move the NOVAFON device in a straight line, selectively or in slowly circling movements on or around the treatment area. The NOVAFON device can also be applied at trigger points near the painful area. In case of uncertainty, please consult your treating physician or therapist regarding your individual application. The NOVAFON device can be used directly on the skin or through fabric/clothing. During the application, make sure that the vibration sound wave device glides gently and without pressure over the body area. Use the entire surface of the attachment. This is the only way the penetration depth effect of the NOVAFON device can be fully deployed and the vibrations are transmitted optimally. Use only the NOVAFON device's own weight for a comfortable application.
The therapeutic application should not exceed a maximum of three 20-minute treatment units per day. Please note that the NOVAFON
device must be switched off for 15 minutes after 20 minutes of use in order to avoid overheating. When treating very painful or sensitive parts of the body (e.g. face, neck, head), the duration of application should be reduced and adjusted to suit the patient's personal requirements.
NOTE: Application of liniments (medicated topical preparations): Generally, only apply small amounts of creams, ointments, cosmetic or medicated liniments on the skin or place a fine cloth between the device and the skin. Do not allow liquids or residues to penetrate the NOVAFON device so as not to damage it.
4.2. PROFESSIONAL APPLICATION IN NEUROREHABILITATION
NOTE: The use of local vibration therapy for neurological diseases should only be carried out by specialists (therapists, physicians, nurses) or after detailed instruction by such a person.
4.2.1. Spasticity
Spasticity is a common consequence of a stroke and other disorders of the central and peripheral nervous system. Local vibration therapy, combined with physiotherapy, provides a simple and drug-free treatment method. Numerous studies have shown a reduction in spasticity as well as improved motor control and function. ^2 The effectiveness mechanisms are the tonic vibrational reflex and the stimulation of the sensomotoric system. Taking into account the contraindications (section 5), the spastic muscle itself is treated at 50 Hz and the antagonist of the spastic muscle at 100 Hz. The starting point can be on the tendon or directly on the muscle itself. The treatment may be local, i.e. focusing on one point, or in sweeping movements. The application with the NOVAFON device should not exceed 20 minutes per unit. The treatment can be performed up to 5 times a week. Please keep in mind that using the appliance incorrectly can lead to increased muscle tone. Stop the treatment immediately if any side effects occur (see section 5).
4.2.2. Hemineglect
Several studies have found an improvement in the visual exploration performance of stroke patients with Hemineglect when the neck musculature contralateral to the lesion is stimulated by vibration. ^3
This effect is based on the fact that the vibration stimulates stretch receptors in muscles and tendons of the neck, leading to an apparent rotation of the head. For successful therapy, the corresponding stimulation point must be found on the contralesional, posterior neck muscles, taking into account the contraindications (section 5). This point is determined by fixing a bright spot on the wall (e.g. by means of a laser pointer) in a darkened room. The therapist guides the NOVAFON device slowly along the neck muscles at 100 Hz and medium intensity. The patient sits on a chair for the treatment. The correct stimulation point is determined as soon as the patient reports that the fixed point is moving without moving his/her head. The total treatment time should not exceed 40 minutes, whereby the pure stimulation time should be interrupted by a 5 minute break after 10 minutes. A total of at least 15 treatment sessions are necessary to
achieve a lasting effect. Stop the treatment immediately if any side effects occur (see section 5).
5. CONTRAINDICATIONS
Treatments with the NOVAFON vibration sound wave devices are not permitted for patients with:
- Open wounds / eczema (in the body region to be treated)
- Arteriosclerosis (in the body region being treated)
- Current episodes of epilepsy
. Pregnancy - Implants (in the body region being treated)
