Frequently Asked Questions - FX 3 HILTI

What type of battery can I charge with the Hilti FX 3 charger?
The FX 3 charger is designed only for charging the battery of the Hilti FX 3-A welding machine. Do not charge other batteries or products.
How to start fast charging?
Press the fast charging button (key ⑥) on the control panel. The fast charging indicator (⑧) lights up green. To deactivate fast mode, press the button again.
What do the indicator lights on the charger mean?
The green mains indicator (⑤) indicates power supply. The green charging indicator (⑨) flashes during charging. The solid green charge complete indicator (⑦) indicates the end of charging. The red fault indicator (④) solid or flashing signals a malfunction.
What to do if the fault indicator (red) is solid?
A solid red light indicates a failure in the charger. Unplug the charger and contact Hilti Service.
What to do if the fault indicator flashes?
A red flashing indicates a failure in the welding machine (FX 3-A). Unplug the charger and contact Hilti Service. If the mains indicator and fault indicator flash together, the error comes from the mains (overheating or overvoltage): unplug and then check the mains voltage.
Can I use an extension cord with the charger?
Yes, but use a properly wired extension cord with suitable plugs. For maximum length, refer to the table: up to 7.6 m with AWG 16, 15.2 m with AWG 12, 30.5 m with AWG 10 and 45.6 m with AWG 8.
How to clean the charger?
Always disconnect all cables before cleaning. Use a slightly damp cloth and avoid silicone-based cleaners which could attack plastic parts.
When does the charger switch to maintenance mode?
When the battery is fully charged, the charger automatically switches to maintenance mode. The mains and charge complete indicators remain green. You can then unplug the charger.
Where can I find spare parts or have the charger repaired?
Use only original Hilti spare parts and consumables. Contact your Hilti Store or Hilti customer service. All electrical repairs must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
How to recycle the charger at the end of its life?
Do not dispose of the device with household waste. Hilti takes back used devices for recycling in many countries. Contact Hilti customer service or a sales advisor for more information.
