How to install my FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E using the WPS button?

Plug the repeater near your base station. Press the WPS button on the repeater (the WLAN LED flashes). Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your base station. The connection is established when the Power, WLAN, and LAN LEDs stay lit. Then move the repeater to a halfway point.

How to configure the repeater without WPS?

Plug the repeater near the base station. Connect your computer to the repeater's Wi-Fi network (default key: 00000000). Open a browser and go to http://fritz.repeater. Follow the setup wizard to connect the repeater to your Wi-Fi network.

What to do if the Power LED flashes?

A flashing Power LED means the repeater is starting up or the firmware is being updated. If the flashing persists for more than a few minutes, check that the repeater is properly powered and the base station is on. Otherwise, perform a factory reset.

Can I use the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E with a router of another brand?

Yes, it is compatible with any 2.4 GHz base station supporting WPA/WPA2. For configuration without WPS, use the wizard via http://fritz.repeater. Advanced WiFi Mesh features require a FRITZ!Box with FRITZ!OS 6.90 or later.

How to activate the WiFi Mesh feature?

If you have a FRITZ!Box with FRITZ!OS 6.90 or higher, the repeater automatically activates WiFi Mesh when it connects. You can also activate Mesh by pressing the WPS button on the repeater for 6 seconds (the WLAN LED flashes quickly). See the manual for more details.

How to reset the repeater to factory settings?

Press and hold the WPS button for 15 seconds. All LEDs flash, then the repeater restarts with factory settings. The default Wi-Fi key becomes 00000000.

How to update the repeater firmware?

Access the repeater's user interface via http://fritz.repeater. Go to System / Update. If an update is available, follow the instructions. If you use a FRITZ!Box, updates can be performed directly from the box's interface.

What are the LED indicators and their meaning?

Three LEDs: Power (power and signal quality: solid on = good connection; flashing = startup or update), WLAN (solid on = Wi-Fi active; flashing = WPS in progress or Mesh activation), LAN (solid on = device connected via cable).

What is the power consumption of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E?

Total consumption is approximately 5 watts during normal operation.

Is the repeater compatible with 5 GHz Wi-Fi?

No, the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E operates only on the 2.4 GHz band (802.11b/g/n standards). It does not support the 5 GHz band.

Operating Modes

The FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E can work in two different operating modes:

Wireless Bridge (Preset)

The WLAN bridge connects the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E with your Internet router via wireless LAN. Computers and other network devices are connected to the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E via Wireless LAN or with a LAN cable. Read the description starting on page 8.

LAN Bridge

The LAN bridge connects the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E with your internet router using a LAN cable. Computers and other network devices are connected with the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E via Wireless LAN. The LAN bridge operating mode can be configured in the user interface of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E. For more information, see also the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E manual at en.avm.de/service.

Connecting the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450 with Wireless LAN at the Touch of a Button

Requirements (Preconfigured in and Fulfilled by a FRITZ!Box)

- Wireless access point that supports WPS with the WPA or WPA2 encryption standard - The SSID (name of the wireless radio network) is set to "visible" in the wireless access point, and the MAC address filter is disabled for the initial configuration.

Establishing a Connection to the Computer

1. Insert the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E in an outlet in the vicinity of your wireless access point (for instance, a FRITZ!Box).
2. Press the "WPS" button on the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E until the "WLAN" LED starts to flash.
3. Within two minutes, press the button on your wireless access point that initiates WPS. For more information, see the documentation of this device. The FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E adopts the SSID (radio network name) and the network key from your wireless access point and establishes a secure wireless connection. Once the connection has been established, the "Power", "WLAN" and "LEDs light up."
4. Insert the FRITZIWLAN Repeater in an outlet located about halfway between your wireless access point and the wireless devices to be added to the wireless network.
   The FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E is connected with your home network by wireless LAN. Check the settings and perform an update if necessary. Continue reading on page 10.

Connecting Using the Wizard

Requirements

The MAC filter must be switched off for the initial configuration. This is the default setting on a FRITZ!Box.

Establishing a Connection to the Computer

1. Insert the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E in an outlet in the vicinity of your wireless access point (for instance, a FRITZ!Box).
2. Start the wireless LAN software on your computer, select the wireless radio network of your FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E and establish a connection.
3. Enter the network key. In the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E the network key is preset to 00000000 (eight zeros).
   The computer establishes a connection to the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E. Once the connection has been established, the "Power", "WLAN" and "LEDs light up."
4. Insert the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater in an outlet located about halfway between your wireless access point and the wireless devices to be added to the wireless network.

Starting the Configuration Wizard

1. Open the web browser on your computer and enter http://fritz.repeater in the address bar. The configuration wizard appears.
2. The wizard guides you through configuration of the wireless connection between the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E and your wireless access point.
   The FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E is connected with your home network by wireless LAN. Check the settings and perform an update if necessary. Continue reading on page 11.

FRITZ!WLAN Repeater in the Home Network

In the home network of a FRITZ!Box, it is especially easy and convenient for your FRITZ! devices to work together.

On a FRITZ!Box with FRITZ!OS Version 6.90 or Higher

• During registration with FRITZ!Boxes with FRITZ!OS 6.90 or higher, the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater automatically adopts the FRITZ!Box's wireless LAN settings.
• When settings on the FRITZ!Box are changed, the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater adopts these changes automatically.
• Updates for the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E can be performed directly in the graphic display of the FRITZ!Box user interface under Home Network / Home Network Overview.
• The FRITZ!WLAN Repeater benefits from expanded Mesh WiFi functionality. Note the instructions at en.avm.de/mesh-networking

On a FRITZ!Box with FRITZ!OS up to Version 6.6x

- During registration with FRITZ!Boxes with FRITZ!OS up to version 6.6x, FRITZ!WLAN Repeater 450E automatically adopts the FRITZ!Box's wireless LAN settings.

- Updates for the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater can be performed directly in the FRITZ!Box user interface under Home Network / Home Network Overview.

On a Wireless Access Point from Another Manufacturer

• For registration with a wireless access point via WPS, the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater adopts the SSID (radio network name) and network key of the wireless access point.
• Updates are performed directly in the user interface of your FRITZ!WLAN Repeater under System / Update.

The FRITZ!WLAN Repeater user interface can be opened on all connected devices using the IP address it was assigned by your wireless access point.

First check the user interface of your wireless access point to find out what IP address the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater was assigned, and then enter this IP address in the address line of a web browser. See the documentation for your wireless access point.

Within the warranty period, we will remove defects to the product which are demonstrably due to faults in materials or manufacturing. We guarantee that the software conforms with general specifications, not, however, that the software meets your individual requirements. Delivery costs will not be reimbursed. Products which have been replaced revert to our ownership. Claims recognized under warranty entail neither an extension or recommencement of the warranty period. If we reject a warranty claim, this claim lapses no later than six months after being rejected by us.
