Frequently Asked Questions - GXC3pro Schabus

How to install the GXC3pro detector?
Mount the external sensor about 30 cm below the ceiling, as close as possible to the combustion source (fireplace, stove). Do not install it behind curtains, above a sink, or near windows/ventilation. Plug the alarm into a 230V outlet.
What to do in case of alarm?
Do not unplug the device. Extinguish any flame, open doors and windows to ventilate, evacuate the premises and call emergency services if necessary. The alarm stops automatically when the CO level drops below 40 ppm.
How to test the detector?
Press the TEST button on the sensor. This checks the LEDs, siren, and shutdown function. The detector also performs regular self-tests.
What does the yellow LED on the sensor mean?
A yellow LED indicates a fault (sensor defect). The connected device (e.g., boiler) is then shut off. Check the cable connection or contact customer service.
What is the service life of the detector?
The service life is approximately 5 years. The date (month/year) is indicated on the detector for the next inspection.
Can the detector be installed in a bathroom?
No, avoid very humid rooms. The operating humidity is 5 to 90% without condensation. Install it in a dry room.
Does the detector operate on battery?
No, it plugs directly into a 230 V mains socket. It does not have a backup battery.
What to do if the alarm goes off without apparent reason?
Unplug the device, wait a few moments, then plug it back in. If the problem persists after three attempts, contact customer service. Long transport or high humidity may cause false alarms.
How to clean the detector?
Clean the device with a dry or slightly damp linen cloth. Do not use products containing solvents or abrasives.
Where to find the declaration of conformity?
The declaration of conformity is available on the website: www.shop.elektrotechnik-schabus.de

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

General

• Before you start mounting the device please read the operating instructions carefully.
• The installation shall be performed by qualified personnel.
- Packaging material is not a children's toy. Keep it away from children!
- Do not open the device. It does not contain parts you have to maintain.

Ambient conditions

The standards used to assess the product specify limit values for use in the living area, business area and in small enterprises; the product has been intended for use in the following operating environments:

  • Residential buildings/living areas such as houses, flats, rooms, etc. selling areas such as shops, wholesale markets, etc.
  • Premises of small enterprises such as workshops, service centers, etc.
  • All areas of application characterize themselves by a connection to the public low voltage mains.

APPROPRIATE USE

The GAS ALARM GX-C3pro with external sensor is a gas warning device for carbon monoxide and can already deliver a warning at a gas concentration that lies well below life-threatening values. This monitoring system is, therefore, in line with its purpose, set to a very high sensitivity (see table TECHNICAL DATA). The alarm is signalled acoustically/optically and the connected gas appliance is turned off at the same time. The unit is suitable for normal household use and may not be used in areas at risk of explosion.

Another use of the device as described above is not authorized.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

The GAS ALARM GX-C3pro and the sensor may be installed only in dry, interior rooms and must be correctly placed according to the type of gas to ensure faultless operation of the alarm system.

Schabus GXC3pro - INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS - 1

It is essential to observe the prescribed sensor mounting height!

Placing of the sensor for carbon monoxide (CO):

Mount the external sensor as close as possible to the point of combustion or flue/chimney to be monitored but some 30 cm below the ceiling as the escaping gas will be heated and will initially rise.

natural_image Simple line drawing of an electrical setup with a table, capacitor, and wall-mounted device (no text or symbols)

The sensor may not be used in the following positions:

  • places where the sensor is shielded from escaping gas (e.g. behind curtains or in cupboards)
    • directly above hearths or points of combustion or over a wash basin or sink
  • next to a door, windows, ventilator, fan, air conditioning unit etc.
  • in areas where dust or dirt can prevent the sensor from working
    • in areas at risk of explosion

START-UP

The GAS ALARM GX-C3pro is simply plugged into a socket 230V / 50-60Hz. The LED on the power socket lights up red for a moment, then the green LED on both devices. The gas alarm system is ready for immediate use.

NOTE: various transport conditions (lengthy storage / humidity) can lead to an alarm state being triggered immediately after the warm-up time (LED flashes red). Disconnect the unit briefly from the supply and start the warm-up process again. You may need to repeat this procedure up to three times.

TEST

The GAS ALARM GX-C3pro responds only to CO, so you can not test the unit with CO gas. Intelligent software performs regular self-tests on the sensor. If a fault occurs, the yellow LED on the sensor lights up and a connected device is switched off. To test the LEDs, the sounder and the shutdown function, press the TEST button on the sensor.

DISORDER

If the sensor cable is not connected or not correctly connected, this is also a fault and a gas boiler connected to the power supply unit will be switched off in any case.

ALARM

Only when an increased gas concentration is detected by the sensor for more than 30 seconds will the alarm delay times be activated as indicated in the table.

After these times have elapsed, the device will sound an alarm, the red LED will flash, the sounder will give a loud acoustic signal and a connected device will be switched off.

By pressing the TEST key, only the audible warning can be silenced.

Only when the measured gas concentration falls below 40 ppm CO, the voltage at the device socket is released again.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF ALARM

  • Do not unplug the alarm unit
  • Do not switch on any other electrical devices or appliances
  • Do not ignite any open flame, turn off any open flame already lit
  • Immediately open windows and doors and thoroughly ventilate the area or house. Inform any other people in the house. Everyone must leave the house!
  • Search the area or house for any points of combustion/fire. Carbon monoxide is developed by incomplete (smoky) combustion. Important: everyone must leave the house!
  • Eliminate the cause of the escape of gas. In the event of uncertainty, contact your energy supply expert/adviser
  • In the event of persistent/repeated alarm, contact your energy supply expert/adviser or the fire service

Schabus GXC3pro - WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF ALARM - 1

The date (month/year) is at the sensor for the next sensor examination. Please send the sensor to Elektrotechnik Schabus for the work examination.
