APPROPRIATE USE

The GAS ALARM GX-HS is a gas warning device for various gases and can already deliver a warning at a gas concentration that lies below life-threatening values. This monitoring system is, therefore, in line with its purpose, set to a very high sensitivity. For each type of gas, a suitable sensor must be used (for information on trigger levels and minimum concentration, see the instructions for the sensor). The alarm signal on the device is optical (a buzzer can be optionally connected to the device).

At the same time, two potential-free relays are connected in order to e.g. cut the gas supply line with a magnetic cut-off valve to prevent any more gas from leaking in the event of a leak in the gas line or gas furnace. The device may not be used in areas with a risk of explosion. Another use of the device as described above is not authorized.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

The GAS ALARM GX-HS and the sensor may be installed only in dry, interior rooms and must be correctly placed according to the type of gas to ensure faultless operation of the alarm system.

Schabus GXHS - INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS - 1

The installation shall be performed by qualified personnel. Please note the five safety rules!

Snap-on fitting on mounting rails

The GAS ALARM GX-HS is installed into equipment racks and conduit boxes (mounting rail 35 mm standard)

Sensor installation

Depending on the type of sensor connected, the device detects different gases, e.g. city gas and natural gas (methane/butane), carbon monoxide and smoke or inert gases. For each type of sensor, there is a prescribed mounting height to take account of the differing properties of the gases.

Schabus GXHS - Sensor installation - 1

It is essential to observe the prescribed mounting height! Please note the operating instructions of the sensor you wish to use and you will see the specified mounting height!

Sensor connection configuration

Observe the colour coding of the sensor cable (see connection diagram below).

Relay connection configuration

When connecting additional devices to the potential-free relay, please note that the switching capacity may not be exceeded.

Relay status in monitoring mode: ▶ The relay is „energized“ (make contact closed/break contact open)

Relay status in alarm mode: ▶ The relay „decreases“ (make contact open/ break contact closed)

Storage function adjustments

Two differing output messages can be defined for the sensor input:

▶ Alarm message with storage function (wire jumper at terminals 17-18): The alarm stays on and the relay is switched on, until the message is turned off again by pushing a button.

▶ Alarm message without storage function (no wire jumper): The alarm continues and/or the relays are connected until the detected gas has volatilised.

Buzzer connection (optional)

A buzzer can optionally be connected to the terminals 14 and 15. Connection value: 9–15 V/max. 50 mA

START-UP

When connecting grid voltage to the device, both LEDs (Sensor and Power) light up. The sensor of the monitoring system requires a warm-up time of max. five minutes until it is functional. Then only the Power light is illuminated in green and the GAS ALARM GX-HS is operational. Please note: The warm-up time will be restarted even in the event of a power failure.

ATTENTION: Due to different transport conditions (long storage/moisture), an alarm may be triggered directly after warm-up time (Sensor LED blinks red). Disconnect the device from the grid for a short time and restart the warm-up time. This process may have to be repeated up to three times.

FUNCTIONAL TEST

After the GX-HS and the sensors have been set up, a functional test must be carried out. For the functional test of the sensor, please note the operating instructions of the sensor you are using!

ATTENTION: The device only triggers an alarm and the LED Sensor flashes red if the sensor has detected an elevated gas concentration for longer than 20 seconds. The Power LED is no longer green. Once the gas has volatised, the device switches to monitoring mode. For the save function, press the button, thereby clearing the alarm. The device switches back to the monitoring mode.

Schabus GXHS - FUNCTIONAL TEST - 1

For your own safety and reassurance, we recommend that you carry out this test every month!

Using the button on the control unit, you can check the function of the device and issue an alarm in the process. The alarm continues as long as you hold down the button. For the save function, press the button, thereby clearing the alarm.

Attention: This test only checks the function of the warning device and is not a substitute for the sensor test. To ensure that the sensor is always in a proper functioning state, you should replace it after 5 years for safety's sake.

ALARM

The device only triggers an alarm and the LED Sensor flashes red if the sensor has detected an elevated gas concentration for longer than 20 seconds.

Alarm message with storage function: The alarm stays on and the relay is switched ▶ on, until the message is turned off again by pushing button .

Alarm message without storage function: The alarm continues and/or the relays are connected until the detected gas has volatilised.

WHAT TO DO IN CASE OF ALARM (or if you smell gas)

Please note the operating instructions of the sensor you are using!

FALSE ALARM

The monitoring system is, in line with its purpose, set to a very high sensitivity. The sensitive system sensor also responds to other gaseous media. The use of aerosols (gas propellant in hair, disinfectant, alcohol etc. sprays), as well as strong tobacco fumes (smoking card party) can lead to a false alarm.

Cable damage or a defect sensor can also trigger a false alarm.

Since we do not have the required test gases available, we give you the concentrations for the gas sensors as calculated from the data sheet diagrams (see operating instructions of the sensor). The minimum concentrations take account of component tolerances and the influence of temperature.

GENERAL

Elektrotechnik Schabus GmbH & Co. KG is not liable for damages and/or losses of any kind such as individual damages or consequential damages brought about by the gas detector not issuing an alarm despite the presence of an elevated gas concentration.

To ensure that the sensor is always in a proper functioning state, you should replace it after 5 years for safety's sake.
