Frequently Asked Questions - MS229 VOLTCRAFT

How to test a battery with the Voltcraft MS229?
Turn on the device with the ON/OFF switch. Use the MODE/START button to select the appropriate voltage (e.g., 1.5V). Confirm with SET. Set the load switch according to the voltage. Insert the battery respecting the indicated polarity. The screen displays the voltage under load and the remaining percentage.
What types of batteries can I test?
You can test 1.2 V (rechargeable), 1.5 V (alkaline or high capacity), 3 V, 6 V, 9 V and 12 V batteries. Make sure to set the correct voltage before testing.
What does the percentage display mean?
The percentage indicates the estimated remaining capacity of the battery compared to a new battery. For example, for a 1.5 V battery, 0% corresponds to 1.14 V and 100% to 1.50 V.
How to replace the tester's internal batteries?
Turn off the device and remove the tested batteries. Open the battery compartment on the back. Insert two LR44 button cells (1.5V) respecting polarity: the + pole to the left. Close the compartment.
Why won't the tester turn on?
Check that the internal batteries are correctly installed and not discharged. Replace the LR44 batteries if necessary. Make sure the ON/OFF switch is in the ON position.
Can I test a battery under load?
Yes, the tester applies a predefined load (test current) according to the selected voltage. This gives a more realistic indication of remaining capacity than a simple no-load test.
What if the screen displays "LO" or "HI"?
"LO" means the battery is low or polarity reversed. Check polarity and selected voltage. "HI" indicates a voltage higher than the test range. Select a higher voltage.
Is the tester suitable for button cells?
Yes, the device can test button cells. Use the positive terminal with the appropriate contact for button cells, as shown in the manual.
How to clean the tester?
Use a soft dry cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive products. Avoid pressing too hard on the screen. Let it dry completely before reuse.
What to do in case of malfunction?
First check the internal batteries and connections. If the problem persists, contact technical support. Repairs must be carried out by a professional.

1. Intended use

The product is intended for testing the common batteries within a voltage range of 1.2 V/DC to 12 V/DC. For an objective measuring result, the batteries/rechargeable batteries are tested under load. The current under load has to be preset depending on the type of battery/storage battery.

The battery voltage under load and the percentage of remaining battery voltage are indicated on the display. Two 1.5 V button cells (LR44) are required for operation.

For safety and approval purposes (CE), you must not rebuild and/or modify this product. If you use the product for purposes other than those described above, the product may be damaged. In addition, improper use can cause hazards such as short circuiting, fire, electric shock etc. Read the instructions carefully and keep them. Make this product available to third parties only together with its operating instructions.
