Which battery to use with the GCHH 1845 Li T?

Only use Li-Ion batteries from the Power-X-Change series by Einhell. The device is supplied without battery and charger.

How to attach the shoulder strap?

Hook the carabiner hooks of the shoulder strap onto the provided attachments (fig. 3). Adjust the length so that the attachment is at hip height (fig. 7). To quickly remove the shoulder strap, press the hooks (fig. 8).

How to assemble the tube of the device?

You may use the extension tube or not. For assembly, insert the tubes and screw with the locking nut (fig. 4-6). Ensure that the mounting screws are on the same side.

How to adjust the tilt of the cutting head?

Press the locking button (fig. 9, pos. 10a) and adjust the tilt to one of the 7 positions.

How to start the device?

Before starting, install the battery correctly. Press and hold the start lock (pos. 3), then set the on/off switch (pos. 2) to the on position. Release the start lock.

How to maintain the hedge trimmer blade?

After each use, clean the blade with a brush to remove residues. Then apply a thin layer of oil (fig. 20). Be careful not to get oil on the handles.

What are the essential safety precautions?

Always wear eye, head and hearing protection. Use sturdy shoes and gloves. Keep a distance of at least 10 metres from electrical cables. Read the instruction manual before use.

What to do if the device does not start?

Check that the battery is charged and correctly inserted. If the problem persists, consult a specialist workshop. Do not attempt to repair the interior yourself.

How to store the device after use?

Clean and oil the blade. Store the device in a dark, dry, frost-free place with the blade protector on. The ideal temperature is between 5 and 30 °C.

3. Proper use

This cordless pole hedge trimmer is suitable for cutting hedges, bushes and shrubs. Caution! Do not use this equipment to cut grass.

The equipment is to be used only for its prescribed purpose. Any other use is deemed to be a case of misuse. The user / operator and not the manufacturer will be liable for any damage or injuries of any kind caused as a result of this.

Please note that our equipment has not been designed for use in commercial, trade or industrial applications. Our warranty will be voided if the machine is used in commercial, trade or industrial businesses or for equivalent purposes.

5. Before starting the equipment

Caution! Do not fit the battery until the equipment has been fully assembled and all the settings have been actuated. Always wear protective gloves when working on the equipment to protect yourself against injury.

Use the cutter rail guard (Fig. 2, Item 12)

5.1 Fitting the shoulder strap

(Fig. 3): Attach the carabiner hooks (Item 5a) of the shoulder strap (Item 5) to the shoulder strap attachments (Item 6/6a).

5.2 Fitting the tubes

The cordless pole hedge trimmer can be assembled either with or without the extension tube (Fig. 2 / Item 9).

5.2.1 Assembly with extension tube

1. (Fig. 4-5) Make sure that the mounting screws (Item A) are on the same side and insert the tube with motor housing/hedge trimmer (Item 10) into the extension tube (Item 9). Screw the two tubes together with the lock nut (Item 8).
2. (Fig. 6) Insert the extension tube (Item 9) into the tube with the operating element (Item 11) and screw the two tubes together with the lock nut (Item 8). The cordless pole hedge trimmer has now been screwed together (Fig. 1). To dismantle, proceed in reverse order.

5.2.2 Assembly without extension tube

Insert the tube with the motor housing/hedge trimmer (Fig. 2 / Item 10) into to tube with the operating element (Fig. 2 / Item 11) and screw the two tubes together with the lock nut (Item 8). The cordless pole hedge trimmer has now been screwed together. To dismantle, proceed in reverse order.

5.3 Using the shoulder strap

Warning! Always use the shoulder strap when working with the equipment. Switch off the equipment before you take off the shoulder strap (risk of injury).

1. Slip the shoulder strap (Fig. 7/Item 5) over your shoulder.
2. Adjust the length of the shoulder strap so that the strap attachment is at waist level (Fig. 7).
3. The shoulder strap is equipped with a buckle. Press the hooks together (Fig. 8) if you need to put down the equipment quickly.
4. To change the strap position on the equipment, slacken the wing nuts (Fig. 3/Item 6b) by turning them counterclockwise and move the strap attachment to the desired position on the tube. Then retighten the wing nuts (Fig. 3/Item 6b) by turning them clockwise.

5.4 Adjusting the angle of the motor housing/hedge trimmer (Fig. 9)

Press the lock-off button (Item 10a) and adjust the angle of the hedge trimmer head (Item 10) to any of 7 latching positions.

5.5 Turning the handle (Fig. 10)

Press the two lock-off buttons (Item 4) and turn the handle (Item 1) 90° to the left or 90° to the right.

5.6 Fitting the battery (Fig. 11)

Press the pushlock button (T) of the rechargeable battery and push the battery into the battery mount provided. When the battery pack is positioned as in Fig. 11, make sure that the pushlock button latches in place! To remove the battery pack, proceed in reverse order.

5.7 Charging the battery (Fig. 11-12)

1. Take the battery pack out of the equipment. Do this by pressing the pushlock button (T).
2. Check that your mains voltage is the same as that marked on the rating plate of the battery charger. Insert the power plug of the charger into the mains socket outlet. The green LED will then begin to flash.
3. Insert the battery pack into the battery charger.
4. In the section entitled „Charger indicator“ you will find a table with an explanation of the LED indicator on the charger.

The battery pack can become a little warm during the charging. This is normal.

If the battery pack fails to charge, check:

• whether there is voltage at the socket outlet
- whether there is good contact at the charging contacts.

If the battery pack still fails to charge, send

• the charging unit

• and the battery pack

to our customer service center.

To ensure that items are properly packaged and delivered when you send them to us, please contact our customer service or the point of sale at which the equipment was purchased.

When shipping or disposing of batteries and cordless tools, always ensure that they are packed individually in plastic bags to prevent

short circuits and fi res.

To ensure that the battery pack provides long service, you should take care to recharge it promptly. You must recharge the battery pack when you notice that the performance of the device drops. Never allow the battery pack to become fully discharged. This will cause it to develop a defect.

5.8 Battery capacity indicator (Fig. 13)

Press the button for the battery capacity indicator (M). The battery capacity indicator (L) shows the charge status of the battery using 3 LEDs.

All 3 LEDs are lit:

The battery is fully charged.

2 or 1 LED(s) are lit:

The battery has an adequate remaining charge.

1 LED fl ashes:

The battery is empty, recharge the battery.

All LEDs blink:

The battery temperature is too low. Remove the battery from the equipment, keep it at room temperature for one day. If the fault reoccurs, this means that the rechargeable battery has undergone exhaustive discharge and is defective. Remove the battery from the equipment. Never use or charge a defective battery.

6. Operation

Please note that the statutory regulations governing noise abatement may differ from one location to another.

Caution! Always use the shoulder strap when working with the equipment. Always switch off the equipment before you take off the shoulder strap. Otherwise there is a risk of injury.

Put on the shoulder strap as described above, fi t the required mounting kit and adjust the equipment to suit your needs.

Switching on/off

Switching on (Fig. 14)

• Hold the equipment firmly by the handle and grip surface with both hands
  • Press and hold the safety lock-off (Item 3).
  • Switch on the equipment with the On/Off

switch (Item 2). You can then release the safety lock-off.

Switching off

Release the On/Off switch (Fig. 14/Item 2).

7. Using for work

• Before you start work, inspect the cordless pole hedge trimmer for damage. Never use equipment which is obviously damaged.
• Check that the cutters work properly. The twin-bladed cutters rotate in opposite directions, thus guaranteeing high cutting performance and smooth operation.
• Take care to maintain a steady foothold and hold the equipment firmly in both hands away from your body. Before you switch on, make sure that the equipment is not touching any objects.

Work practice

• A hedge trimmer can be used to cut shrubs and bushes as well as hedges.
• To obtain the best cutting results, hold the hedge trimmer so that the cutter teeth are at an angle of approx. 15^ in relation to the hedge (see Fig. 15).
• The twin-bladed cutters rotate in opposite directions, thus enabling cutting in both directions (see Fig. 16).
• It is recommended to tie a guide line of string or the like along the hedge so that you cut the hedge to a level height. Cut off all branches which protrude beyond the guide line (see Fig. 17/18).
• Cut the sides of the hedge with curve-shaped movements from the bottom up (see Fig. 19).

8. Cleaning, maintenance and ordering of spare parts

Danger!

Remove the battery pack before doing any cleaning and maintenance work.

8.1 Cleaning

• Keep the handles free of grease so that you can maintain a firm grip.
• Clean the equipment as required with a damp cloth and, if necessary, mild washing up li- quid.

• Never immerse the equipment in water or other liquids in order to clean it.
• Keep all safety devices, air vents and the motor housing free of dirt and dust as far as possible. Wipe the equipment with a clean cloth or blow it with compressed air at low pressure.
  • We recommend that you clean the device immediately each time you have finished using it.
• Clean the equipment regularly with a moist cloth and some soft soap. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents; these could attack the plastic parts of the equipment. Ensure that no water can seep into the device. The ingress of water into an electric tool increases the risk of an electric shock.

8.2 Maintenance

The cutters should be cleaned and lubricated at regular intervals in order to ensure best performance at all times. Remove deposits with a brush and apply a thin film of oil (Fig. 20).

9. Storage

• Clean and maintain the equipment before putting it into storage
• Store the equipment and accessories in a dark and dry place at above freezing temperature. The ideal storage temperature is between 5 and 30 °C. Store the electric tool in its original packaging.

Secure the equipment during transportation in order to prevent damage or injuries. Use the cutter rail guard.

11. Disposal and recycling

The equipment is supplied in packaging to prevent it from being damaged in transit. The raw materials in this packaging can be reused or recycled. The equipment and its accessories are made of various types of material, such as metal and plastic. Never place defective equipment in your household refuse. The equipment should be taken to a suitable collection center for proper disposal. If you do not know the whereabouts of such a collection point, you should ask in your local council offices.
