Connecting external devices 2.1 Sound System
7. CONNECTING EXTERNAL DEVICES
WARNING!
- Turn down the volume on the devices before you connect them to one another.
- Switch off all devices before you connect them to one another, and comply with the instructions for the devices that you wish to connect.
7.1 HDMI ARC CONNECTION

HDMI (ARC)
ARC stands for "Audio Return Channel" and means that audio signals can be transmitted in both directions. A device equipped with HDMI (ARC) can both receive and transmit audio signals.
HDMI (CEC)
CEC stands for "Consumer Electronics Control". If two or more CEC devices are connected to one another, then at least the basic functions such as switching on and off can be operated via a remote control.
Example: the 2.1 Sound System is connected via a CEC enabled HDMI cable to a CEC enabled television. If the television is now switched on with the television remote control, the 2.1 Sound System will also switch on. (However, the television must send and receive a signal. If, for example, the television is receiving the television signal via a set top box, this must also be switched on.)
In order to be able to use the ARC function, external devices that are connected to the 2.1 Sound System must also have an ARC enabled HDMI interface. In combination with an HDMI ARC enabled television, the sound can thus be sent to the 2.1 Sound System without an additional audio cable.
2.1 Sound System
GB
Connecting external devices
- Check ...
... whether the external device has an HDMI ARC input.
... whether the ARC function can be used permanently on all HDMI connections on the external device or if the ARC function must be switched on first. Please refer to the manual of the external device.
- If necessary, switch on the ARC function on the menu of the external device.
- Use an HDMI cable to connect the HDMI ARC output of the external device to the HDMI ARC socket.
- Press the button to turn on the 2.1 Sound System, and also turn on the external device.
- For the playback press the HDMI ARC button on the remote control of the 2.1 Sound System. The LED lights up in white.
- Then start playback on the external device. If the connection is correct, you can now control the sound of the 2.1 Sound System via the television remote control.
NOTE: if you do not hear any sound from the 2.1 Sound System after a few seconds, set the audio output to PCM on the menu of the television.
7.2 OPTICAL CONNECTION

To connect external devices to the OPTICAL socket, you need a TOSLINK cable. The cable is not included in the scope of supply.
- Pull the protective cap out of the OPTICAL socket and remove any protective cap from the plugs of the TOSLINK cable.
- Use a TOSLINK cable to connect the optical output of the external device with the OPTICAL socket.
- Press the button to turn on the 2.1 Sound System, and also turn on the external device.
GB
Connecting external devices 2.1 Sound System
- For playback, press the OPTICAL button on the remote control of the 2.1 Sound System. The LED lights up in orange.

NOTE: it may be better to switch off the volume on the external device and listen to the sound only via the 2.1 Sound System.
- Switch off both devices before disconnecting.
7.3 COAXIAL CONNECTION

NOTE: you may have to switch the sound output to the coaxial output on your television.
To connect external devices to the COAXIAL socket, you need a coaxial cable. The cable is not included in the scope of supply.
- Use a coaxial cable to connect the coaxial output of the external device to the COAXIAL socket.
- Press the ⏻ button to turn on the 2.1 Sound System, and also turn on the external device.
- For playback, press the COAXIAL button on the remote control of the 2.1 Sound System. The LED lights up in purple.
- Start playback on the connected device. The volume can be adjusted from the external device and via the 2.1 Sound System.
NOTE: it may be better to switch off the volume on the external device and listen to the sound only via the 2.1 Sound System.
- Switch off both devices before disconnecting.
7.4 AUX CONNECTION

The AUX socket allows you, for example, to connect the headphones or stereo output of your television. The cable must have a 3.5 mm jack plug at one end for the AUX socket. Which plug needs to be on the other end depends on the audio output port of the external device. (An audio cable 3.5 mm jack plug to 2x cinch plug and an audio cable 3.5 mm jack plug with 1x angle plug are supplied.)
- Use an audio cable to connect the audio output port of the external device to the AUX socket.
- Press the button to turn on the 2.1 Sound System, and also turn on the external device.
- For playback, press the AUX button on the remote control of the 2.1 Sound System. The LED lights up in green.
- Start playback on the connected device.
The volume can be adjusted from the external device and via the 2.1 Sound System.
NOTES:
- It may be better to switch off the volume on the external device and listen to the sound only via the 2.1 Sound System.
-
Some television sets switch off all sound outputs when a plug is inserted into the headphone socket.
-
Switch off both devices before disconnecting.
NOTE: if the playback is distorted, this may be because the volume level on the external device is set too high. Turn down the volume on the external device, and instead increase the volume on the 2.1 Sound System.

- Because of easier legibility, the procedure for a smartphone is described below.
Installing "Google Home" app
Install the "Google Home" app on the smartphone.

-
In the App Store (for Apple devices) or the Play Store (for Android devices), download the free "Google Home" app and install it.
-
Follow the installation instructions and make the initial settings.
Please note: for a successful connection with the loudspeaker, you need to give the "Google Home" app permission to access your location.
Connecting devices via WLAN
The smartphone now sets up the connection to the loudspeaker via the "Google Home" app.
Requirement:
- Both devices must be within the range of the same WLAN. This WLAN must be selected and activated on the smartphone.
- Bluetooth must be activated on the smartphone.
-
The devices should be close together in order to establish a good Bluetooth connection.
-
Plug the mains plug into a power socket and wait through the startup process, until the LED starts double-flashing rapidly.
-
Open the "Google Home" app on the smartphone.

-
Tap on the icon in the top right corner. It will begin the search process for devices available on the network.
-
When the loudspeaker with the identification "AudioAffairsCCX010xxxx" is found, make the necessary settings in the app. Follow the instructions in the app. The setup process may take a few minutes.

Chromecast 2.1 Sound System
You will know when the connection has been successfully established, both from a notification in the app and because the MODE LED lights up in white.
NOTES:
- xxxx in the identification gives the last 4 digits of the MAC address of the loudspeaker, which you can find on the back of the loudspeaker. You can use this marking to tell the difference between multiple loudspeakers of the same type.
- Using the "Google Home" app, you can change the name of the loudspeaker in the settings for the device, e.g. naming it after the room in which the loudspeaker is set up. Please note that this name change also changes the Bluetooth identification.

- If you have multiple loudspeakers integrated into the same network, you can group loudspeakers so that they playback the same stream. Tap on the icon in the top right corner of the "Google Home" app, and group the loudspeakers.
Controlling the loudspeaker via apps

When you have successfully connected the loudspeaker with your smartphone via "Google Home", you can control the loudspeaker via Chromecast enabled apps.
- The "Google Home" app displays apps that are Chromecast enabled.
- Controlling the loudspeaker works differently in the various apps. Learn how in the help function of the respective app.
- Look for the Chromecast symbol: Often this can be used to select the loudspeaker.
- Look for options such as "Available devices" or "Connect to a device".
- When you have successfully connected the loudspeaker to the app, you can control the functions start/pause and volume both on the smartphone and on the loudspeaker itself.
