BA 2103-1 | BA 2103-2 body analyser scales English Symbols on the scales The scales automatically switch on when you step onto the weighing surface with a little force.

WARNING: When the weighing surface is damp, there is a risk of

slipping. Start-up Inserting/changing batteries For use, you need 2 batteries of type LR03/R03 (AAA), 1.5 V (included). The battery compartment is located on the rear of the device.

1. Push the locking tab of the battery compartment cover towards the battery

compartment and remove the cover.

2. Insert the batteries as indicated at the bottom of the battery compartment. Pay

attention to the correct polarity (+/-).

3. Replace the battery compartment cover.

The locking tab must snap audibly into place. Suggestions for changing the battery: A change of batteries becomes necessary when “Lo” appears on the display, or when nothing at all is displayed. Only use the type of battery that is specified in the “Technical data”. Always change all batteries at the same time. Dispose of old batteries in an environmentally appropriate way (see “Disposal”). Calibrate the scale, see “Setting up the scale”. Choosing the unit of measurement When the scales are delivered, the unit of measurement is set to “kg” as standard. However, the measurement result can also be displayed in the English units of measurement, “lb” (pound) or “st:lb” (stone:pound). − Press the UNIT button next to the battery compartment on the rear-side of the scales repeatedly. Note the display. This is how your body analyser scales work

1. Place the scale on an even, firm and dry surface. Do not place the scale on a carpet.

2. First, briey step onto the middle of the weighing surface to calibrate the scale. As

soon as the display shows “0.0”, calibration is complete. This calibration must be performed after each battery change. This is how your body analyser scales work Your new body analyser scales work using so-called BIA-technology (Bioelectric Impedance Analysis). This involves an undetectable, completely harmless and weak current flowing through your body. The measurement takes place via sensors that are mounted on the weighing surface. The current ows relatively unhindered through the uid contained in muscle mass. In fat mass, the resistance is greater. This resistance is measured. Together with your personal data (sex, weight, age, and height), the scales calculate the following information about your body composition: Weight Body fat proportion in % Body water in % Muscle mass % Bone mass % Daily basal metabolic rate in kcal (energy requirement) Body mass index (BMI) The scales are equipped with 12 memory cells in total. Measurement errors Measurement or calculation errors may arise for the following groups of people during the body analysis. People who .... ... spend 10 hours or more per week playing sport, ... are professional athletes, bodybuilders or endurance athletes, ... are over 70 years old, ... are less than 10 years old. The “normal weighing function” (see next chapter) is not affected by these considerations. Measuring your weight For normal weighing – without body analysis – you do not have to input any data.Entering personal data

1. With a little force, step once briefly onto the weighing surface.

“0.0” and the set unit of measurement, e.g. “kg”, will be shown on the display.

2. Position yourself on the scale. Stand still and do not hold on to anything.

The measured weight will be displayed shortly thereafter. A few seconds after you step off the weighing surface, the scale will switch off automatically. Entering personal data Proceed uninterruptedly when entering data. Otherwise, the scale will turn off after a short time to save energy. Then press SET to return to the input mode.

On the display, a flashing memory cell number (1-12) will be shown.

or the button, select the desired memory cell

Use the or button to select your gender: for male, or for female.

On the display, the preset value for height (e.g. “165” for cm) will flash.

or button to enter your height.

or button to enter your age.

8. Finally, press SET. You have thus entered the required data.

On the display, a memory cell number will flash again and you can proceed, as previously described, and enter the data of another person. Or wait a few seconds until “0.0” is shown on the display and you can undertake your body analysis. If you do nothing else, the scales will automatically switch off after a few seconds. Keeping the or button pressed displays the data faster in forward and reverse direction, respectively. Entered data can only be overwritten by making a new entry. Body analysis Body analysis is only possible if your data has been entered (see previous chapter). See chapters “Weighing tips” and “Automatic user recognition”.Body analysis

or button to select the memory cell where your personal body data are stored. The memory cell number flashes a few times, then “0.0” and the selected unit of measurement are displayed, e.g. “kg”.

3. Position yourself barefoot on the scales. Stand still and do not hold on to anything.

− Make sure that both feet are on a sensor. − There must be no contact between your feet, your legs, your calves, or your thighs. Otherwise, the measurement will be imprecise. The measured weight will be displayed shortly thereafter. The display then shows “o” and the body analysis is carried out. Remain standing still. Your measured values will then be shown to you repeatedly on the display: Symbol Meaning

1. kg / lb / lb:st Your body weight in the set unit of measurement

Your body fat proportion in % with simultaneous evaluation indicator. i-- (too little body fat) i- (slim) i (normal) i+ (too much body fat) i++ (obese)

Your body water in %

Your muscle mass in %

6. KCAL Your basal metabolism in kcal

7. BMI Your body mass index

Calling up stored values After an analysis has been performed, you can display the values of your last measurements at any time.

1. Press SET and select your memory cell.

The memory cell indicator stops flashing after a few seconds and the indicator “0.0” appears on the display, as well as the unit of measurement, e.g. “kg”.

or once, select the automatic display or, by repeatedly pressing or , select the manual display of the last set of measurements.Body analysis

3. Press and hold SET for a few seconds to switch the scales back to analysis mode or

wait until the displays have run through a few times and the scales then switch off automatically. Weighing tips Weighing for the body analysis can only be carried out barefoot. In doing so, your feet should only be lightly moistened. Completely dry feet can lead to false results, since the electrical conductivity will then poor. During the measuring process, stand still and do not hold onto anything. Do not weigh yourself directly after unusual physical exertion. Do not weigh yourself immediately after standing up. Wait approximately fteen minutes. In this time, the water is able to distribute through your body. Always attempt to weigh yourself at the same time, in order to obtain comparable values. Notes on the ascertained values The proportion of body fat gives the amount of fat as a percentage of the total weight of the body. A blanket recommendation for this value does not exist, since this depends significantly on sex (because of different physiques) and age. Body fat is vital for day-to-day body function. It protects organs, cushions joints, regulates body temperature, stores vitamins, and serves the body as an energy store. For women, a body fat proportion between 10% and 13% is essential; for men, between 2% and 5% with the exception of competitive sportsmen. The proportion of body fat is not an unambiguous indicator of health. Excessive body weight and a too-high proportion of body fat are being linked with the appearance of many diseases of affluence such as diabetes, cardiovascular illnesses, etc. Physical inactivity and poor diet are often triggers for these diseases. There is a clear causal connection between excess weight and physical inactivity. A considerable part of the human body consists of water. This body water is variably distributed throughout the whole body. Lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water, blood around 83% water, body fat approx. 25% water and bones have a water proportion of about 22%. In men approx. 60% of body mass consists of water. In women, that value lies around 55% (determined by a higher proportion of body fat). Approx. two thirds of this total body water are stored in the cells and therefore called intracellular water. The other third is extracellular water.Body mass index (BMI)

Body mass index (BMI) The BMI indicates the ratio of height to weight and is only an approximate standard value. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an index of 18.6 to 25 is optimal. Since men typically have a higher percentage of muscle mass in the total body mass than women do, the age and gender play an important role in interpreting the BMI. Automatic user recognition The scales are equipped with automatic user recognition. This function can be enabled if you have saved your personal data as described in “Entering personal data” and carried out at least one body analysis. As soon as you step on the scales, they switch on automatically and show you the weight result within a few seconds. When a similar weight value (difference less thanCleaning

BA 2103-1 | BA 2103-2 body analyser scales English 2kg) is found in the data stored in the scales, the LCD display flashes once and shows the corresponding memory cell. The body analysis will start shortly after. However, automatic user recognition will not work if there is a weight difference of less than 2kg between two saved users. In this case, manual memory cell selection is required. Cleaning NOTE on material damage − Do not immerse the scale in water or other liquids. − Never use harsh, scouring or abrasive cleaning agents or the like to clean the scale. Otherwise, the surface could be scratched. − Wipe the scale as needed with a slightly damp soft cloth. − Disinfect the weighing surface and the sensors from time to time using a suitable disinfecting agent (available at specialist retailers and pharmacies).
