How to configure the DAPX1860 with the D-Link Wi-Fi app?

Download the D-Link Wi-Fi app from the App Store or Google Play. Launch the app, tap 'Install a new device' then 'Scan QR code'. Scan the QR code provided in the packaging and follow the on-screen instructions.

What to do if the web browser configuration does not work?

Make sure you are connected to the extender's WiFi network (SSID and password printed on the label). Type exactly http://dlinkap.local./ in the address bar (do not forget the trailing dot). If it still does not work, try another browser or reset the extender.

How to reset the extender to factory settings?

Press and hold the reset button located on the bottom of the extender using a paper clip for at least 10 seconds. The status light will turn red, indicating the reset.

What do the LED lights mean?

The power light blinks orange during startup. An orange bar indicates a weak signal between the extender and the router. A green bar indicates a strong signal. Refer to the manual for more details.

How to change the WiFi name (SSID) and password?

Via the D-Link Wi-Fi app, go to wireless settings. Via the browser, log in to the web configuration utility, then go to 'Settings' > 'Extender' and modify the SSID and password fields.

I forgot the administrator password, how to access?

Reset the extender to factory settings by holding the reset button for 10 seconds. After reset, the administrator password returns to default (usually 'admin' or blank).

Does the extender reduce my connection speed?

Yes, using an extender can reduce throughput by about 50% due to retransmission. For optimal performance, place the extender halfway between the router and the desired area, and use the 5 GHz band if possible.

How to place the extender for better coverage?

Place the extender within range of the router, in an open and unobstructed location. The LED bar should be green (strong signal). If orange, move the extender closer to the router. Avoid metal obstacles and thick walls.

Is the extender compatible with my router?

The DAPX1860 is compatible with any standard router that supports 802.11 b/g/n/ac. It works with any internet service provider. Make sure the router broadcasts a WiFi network on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz.

How to update the extender firmware?

Log in to the web interface via http://dlinkap.local./, go to 'Tools' or 'Firmware Update'. Download the latest firmware from the D-Link website and follow the instructions. Do not unplug the device during the update.

2, Wait for the Power LED of the extender to start blinking amber.

One amber bar indicates a weak signal. Move your extender closer to your router to improve signal quality. Make sure that your extender is placed in an open environment.

Place the extender in range of your router. Check the LED indicator on your extender to ensure a proper connection. Green bars indicate a strong signal.

Why can't I connect to my wireless router or my wireless connection drops?

Verify that your extender is within range of your router. Try plugging it into a location closer to the router and verify the Signal LED is solid green. Note that when extending a wireless signal from a router or access point, devices connected to the extender will not get the same speed/throughput as when connected directly to the router.

How do I change the wireless settings on my extender?

To change your Wi-Fi Network Name (SSID) and modify the security (Wi-Fi password), access the wireless settings via:

• The Wi-Fi section in the settings menu of the D-Link Wi-Fi app or
• Access the web-based configuration utility > Settings > Extender.

What if I forgot my extender's Admin password or want to reset my extender?

If you forgot your Admin password or want to reset your extender back to the factory default settings, press and hold the reset button on the bottom of the extender using a paper clip and release after a minimum of 10 seconds. The Status LED will turn red.
