How to install the U3361GSFP adapter?

Before plugging in the adapter, install the driver from the included CD or download it from the Tripp Lite website. Then plug the adapter into a free USB port (USB-A for U336-1G-SFP, USB-C for U436). A blue LED will light up to confirm Ethernet connection.

What type of SFP transceiver to use with this enclosure?

The U336-1G-SFP and U436-1G-SFP models require a SFP LC transceiver provided by the user. The U436-SMF-1G-LC has an integrated single-mode transceiver. Ensure the wavelength (1310 nm) and fiber type (single-mode or multi-mode) match your network.

What is the maximum supported distance?

In single-mode, up to 5 km; in multi-mode, up to 500-550 m. The distance depends on the fiber type and transceiver used.

Does the adapter require external power?

No, it is USB bus-powered via the computer port. No electrical outlet needed.

What is the maximum data rate?

The Ethernet bandwidth is 1,000 Mbps (1 Gbps). The USB port supports up to 5 Gbps (USB 3.0/Type-C), but the fiber connection is limited to 1 Gbps.

The indicator light does not turn on, what to do?

Verify that the driver is properly installed. Ensure the SFP transceiver (if applicable) is fully inserted and the fiber cable is connected to an active network. If the blue light does not turn on, try a different USB port.

Is it compatible with Windows and macOS?

Can I use a multi-mode fiber cable with the U436-SMF-1G-LC model?

No, the U436-SMF-1G-LC is designed for single-mode fiber only. The integrated transceiver is single-mode. For multi-mode, use the U336-1G-SFP or U436-1G-SFP models with a multi-mode transceiver.

How to clean the adapter?

Unplug the device and clean it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid liquids and solvents. Clean the fiber connectors with an appropriate cleaning kit.

What if the adapter is not recognized?

Installation

Note: Before installation, verify your fiber equipment's wavelength (1310 nm), mode type (single or multi) and distance (in meters) matches that of the USB Fiber Transceiver Adapter specifications.

1. Install the applicable driver on your computer or laptop before connecting the USB fiber transceiver adapter. The driver can be installed using the included CD or by visiting the model's Technical Support page on tripplite.com to download.
2. Once the appropriate driver is successfully installed, connect a user-supplied LC transceiver that is connected to a fiber network to the open SFP port on the adapter. If using the U436-SMF-1G-LC, the transceiver is already built into the unit and a separate transceiver is not needed.
3. If using the U336-1G-SFP, insert the USB-A male connector to a USB-A port on your computer.

OR

If using the U436-1G-SFP or U436-SMF-1G-LC, insert the USB-C male connector to the USB-C port on your computer.

1. A blue LED will illuminate to indicate a successful Ethernet connection. The LED will blink when data is being transferred.

3-Year Limited Warranty

TRIPP LITE warrants its products to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of three (3) years from the date of initial purchase. To obtain service under this warranty, you must obtain a Returned Material Authorization (RMA) number from TRIPP LITE or an authorized TRIPP LITE service center.
