Electric travel kettle Dear Customer, Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions. Connection to the mains supply The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations. The appliance is equipped with a voltage selector which can be set to different supply voltages. The switch must be set to the mains voltage in operation where the kettle is being used! Important safety instructions ∙ In order to avoid hazards, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to our customer service department (see appendix). ∙ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely. ∙ To avoid any risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it in a liquid. ∙ The appliance must be descaled at regular intervals. Clean the water container as necessary with a damp cloth. ∙ Detailed information on cleaning the appliance can GB10 104 x 142 mm be found in the section Cleaning and care. ∙ This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved. ∙ Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance. ∙ Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age. ∙ The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times. ∙ This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as - in staff kitchens in shops, ofcesandothersimilar working environments, - in agricultural working environments, - by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar accommodation, - in bed-and breakfast type environments. ∙ The exterior surfaces become hot during use and will remain so for some time afterwards. ∙ The kettle must only be operated under supervision with pure water and must onlybelledtoalevel between the MIN and MAX marks on the water104 x 142 mm
levelindicator.Overlling the container may cause danger from boiling water being forced out. ∙ Also beware of the danger of scalding from hot steam being emitted (danger of scalding). Therefore, do not touch any parts of the appliance except the handle during use. ∙ Attention: During the boiling process and when pouring out hot water, the lid must be kept closed at all times. ∙ Warning! Any misuse of the appliance can cause severe personal injury. ∙ Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – such materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation. ∙ Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as wellasanyattachmentttedshould be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance. ∙ Caution: Always ensure that the cups and spoons are removed from the kettle before use. ∙ Do not operate the appliance below a hanging cupboard or similar object; there is a risk that escaping steam may be trapped underneath. ∙ The appliance must be placed only on a heat-resistant, level surface. ∙ Do not allow the appliance or its power cord to come into contact with open amesoranyhotsurfacessuchashot- plates. ∙ Do not let the power cord hang free, and keep the cord well away from hot parts of the housing. ∙ Always remove the plug from the wall socket, - in case of any malfunction, - after use, - during cleaning. ∙ When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself. ∙ No responsibility will be accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.12 104 x 142 mm Thermal safety cut-out The preset thermal safety cut-out protects the heating element from overheating should the appliance be erroneously switched on without containing any water, oriftheheatingelementiscalcied.Once the safety cut-out has switched off the kettle, it must be allowed to cool down sufciently,ormustbedescaled,before being switched on again. Before using for the rst time For reasons of hygiene, boil and then discardthersttwollingsofwaterfrom the new kettle. Boiling water ∙ Set the voltage selector to the correct voltage. ∙ Openthewatercontainerlidandllthe container with water to the desired level, observing the minimum and maximum level marks. ∙ Close the lid. ∙ Plug in the mains power plug and turn on the kettle using the on/off switch. The indicator light comes on. ∙ The boiling process begins. After reaching boiling point, the appliance is automatically switched off by the integral steam cut-off device. The indicator light goes out. ∙ To interrupt the boiling process, use the On/Off switch to turn the kettle off. ∙ Always remove the plug from the wall socket before pouring hot water. ∙ To prevent hot steam from being emitted, ensure that the lid remains closed while pouring. ∙ Do not leave any residual water in the container. ∙ If the kettle is operated several times in a row without time to cool down, it may cause a few drops of water to appear, due to condensation forming below the water container. This is safe and does not constitute a defect. Descaling Depending on the water quality in your area, lime deposits may build up on the heating element. It is advisable to remove any such deposits at regular intervals. Any warranty claim will be null and void if the kettle malfunctions because of insufcient descaling. When descaling, a mixture of 0.3 litres of water to two tablespoons of vinegar is suitable. ∙ Pour the descaler in. ∙ Switch the appliance on and let the solution reach boiling point. ∙ Leave it to take effect for a short period. ∙ To clean the container after descaling, rinse thoroughly with fresh water. ∙ Do not pour descalers down enamel- coated sinks. Scale lter ∙ Ifalotofscaleaccumulatesonthelter, it can be removed from the spout to be cleaned. ∙ Toremovethescalelter,pullthelower tabupwardsandloosenthelter. ∙ Toreinsertthelter,rsthookitinatthe top and then press downwards.104 x 142 mm
Cleaning and care ∙ Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely. ∙ To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the kettle in liquid and do not clean it under running water. ∙ For cleaning, a slightly damp, lint-free cloth may be used. ∙ Do not use abrasives, harsh cleaning solutions or stiff brushes for cleaning. ∙ The cups and spoons may be cleaned in warm soapy water. Caution: These items are not dishwasher-safe. Storage To save space, the cups can be put inside each other and then stored in the water container, together with the spoons. Allow the kettle to cool down and remove any residual water from the water container. Disposal Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter. Guarantee This product is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. Under this guarantee the manufacturer undertakes to repair or replace any parts found to be defective, providing the product is returned to one of our authorised service centres. This guarantee is only valid if the appliance has been used in accordance with the instructions, and provided that ithasnotbeenmodied,repairedor interfered with by any unauthorised person, or damaged through misuse. This guarantee naturally does not cover wear and tear, nor breakables such as glass and ceramic items, bulbs etc. This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights, nor any legal rights you may have as a consumer under applicable national legislation governing the purchase of goods. If the product fails to operate and needs to be returned, pack it carefully, enclosing your name and address and the reason for return.
