CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

DO NOT LEAVE WATER IN THE KETTLE AFTER USE, BECAUSE

THIS ACCELERATES THE DEPOSIT OF SCALE

TO CLEAN YOUR KETTLE

n Unplug it. n Let it cool down and clean it with a damp sponge.

Never immerse the kettle, its base, the power cord or the plug in water: the electrical connections and the switch must not come into contact with water.

Do not use scouring pads. TO CLEAN THE FILTER (fig. 5) n The removable filter is made of a fabric that holds the particles of scale and prevents them from falling into your cup when pouring. This filter does not treat or remove the scale from the water. It thus preserves all the qualities of the water. With very hard water, the filter saturates very quickly (10 to 15 uses). It is important to clean it regularly. If it is wet, run it under the water, and if it is dry, brush it gently. Sometimes the scale does not come off easily: you need to carry out a descaling process. DESCALING n Descale regularly, preferably at least once a month, more often if your water is very hard. Follow the instructions on the packet. n Empty your kettle and rinse it 5 or 6 times. Repeat if necessary TO DESCALE YOUR FILTER: n Soak the filter in white vinegar or diluted citric acid.

Never use another method of descaling than the one recommended in this guide.

n When you connect the kettle to the base, no beep can be heard and the digital display remains off - Make sure the kettle is properly connected to its base. - Check that the base is connected to the mains. - Disconnect and reconnect the appliance after a few seconds n If there is still no display, return the appliance to your nearest KRUPS after sales service centre. n The beep sounds continuously for 5 seconds. - The kettle has been used without water or there is an accumulation of scale, triggering the safety system that guards against boiling dry: leave the kettle to cool for a few minutes, then either: - If the kettle has been used without water, triggering the safety system that guards against boiling dry: leave the kettle to cool, fill it with water. Turn the power on using the switch: the kettle begins to operate after about 15 minutes. - If scale has accumulated: descale the kettle. Refer to the section entitled DESCALING. n The water has a plastic taste: - This usually happens when the kettle is brand new. Discard the water you boil the first few times. Do not use the kettle. No attempt should be made to dismantle the appliance or safety devices.

If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its after sales service or any person with similar qualifications, in order to avoid all danger.

PREVENTING DOMESTIC ACCIDENTS

n For a child, even a slight burn can sometimes be serious. n As they grow, teach your children to pay attention to the hot liquids that can be found in a kitchen. Put the kettle and cord well towards the back of the work surface, out of the reach of children. n If an accident happens, place cold water immediately on the burn and call a doctor if necessary.
