Important information for your safety is specially marked. It is essential to comply with these instructions in order to avoid accidents and prevent damage to the appliance:

This refers to possible hazards to the appliance or other objects.

General Notes

Read the operating instructions carefully before putting the appliance into operation and keep the instructions including the warranty, the receipt and, if possible, the box with the internal packing. If you pass the appliance on to a third party, always include all the relevant documents.

• The appliance is designed exclusively for private use and for the envisaged purpose. This appliance is not fit for commercial use.

• Do not use the appliance outdoors as protected animal species (e. g. bees, butterflies) can be killed. Keep it away from sources of heat, direct sunlight, humidity (never dip it into any liquid) and sharp edges. Do not use the appliance with wet hands. If the appliance is humid or wet, unplug it immediately.

• Always switch off the appliance and pull the mains plug out of the socket (pull the mains plug, not the cable) when you are not using the appliance, attaching accessories, for cleaning or in the event of a fault.
• Do not operate the appliance without supervision. If you leave the room you should always turn the appliance off. Remove the plug from the socket.
• The appliance and the mains lead have to be checked regularly for signs of damage. If any damage is detected, the appliance must no longer be used.
• Do not repair the appliance by yourself. Always contact an authorized technician.
• Only use original accessories.
• In order to ensure your children's safety, please keep all packaging (plastic bags, boxes, polystyrene etc.) out of their reach.

Special Safety Precautions for this Appliance

WARNING: Dangerous Voltage!

• The lightning symbol is intended to alert the user to the presence of dangerous voltages inside the appliance!
• Do not insert any metal objects through the housing grille when the appliance is in operation!
• The housing must not be opened by the user under any circumstances.
• Contact authorised specialist personnel if the light source needs to be replaced. The appliance is operated with a "G5 T5 F4W BL" fluorescent lamp.

WARNING: Dangerous Voltage!

• Do not operate the appliance in the immediate vicinity of water (e. g. bathrooms, swimming pools, damp cellars).

CAUTION:

• For indoor use only!

• The appliance is not suitable for use in barns, stables and similar locations.

• The appliance is not be used in locations where flammable vapour or explosive dust is likely to exist.

• The appliance is to be kept out of the reach of children.
• This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
  Children shall not play with the appliance.
• Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.

CAUTION:

This appliance is not intended to be immersed in water during cleaning. Please observe the instructions that we have included for you in the chapter "Cleaning".

Unpacking the Appliance

1. Remove the appliance from its packaging.
2. Remove all packaging material, such as foils, filling material, cable ties and cardboard packaging.
3. Check the appliance for possible transport damage to avoid hazards. Do not operate a damaged appliance. Return it to the dealer immediately.

How it Works

Only attracts flying insects that react to light. Effective area of up to 50m^2

Attracted by the UV light, the insects inside the appliance come into contact with an electric grid, where they receive an electric shock that is lethal to insects. The lifeless insects fall into the easily removable collecting tray.

For your safety, the outer housing prevents accidental contact with the high-voltage grid.

Notes for Use

• To increase efficiency, do not hang or place the appliance in the immediate vicinity of strong light sources.
• If you want to hang the appliance, make sure that there is a power socket nearby.
• Keep windows and doors closed. Avoid draughts.
• Hang or place the appliance out of the reach of children.

Operation

1. The appliance can be hung or set up.
   a) Only hang the appliance from the eyelet provided.
   b) Place the appliance on a level, stable surface.
2. Insert the mains plug into a correctly installed earthed socket. The lamp is immediately ready for use.

Cleaning and maintenance

WARNING:

• Always disconnect the mains plug from the socket before cleaning or maintaining the appliance!
• Never immerse the appliance in water to clean it. This could lead to an electric shock or fire.

CAUTION:

• Do not use a wire brush or other abrasive objects.

• Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents.

• Clean the appliance and the drip tray if necessary, but at least once a week.

• Use the cleaning brush supplied for cleaning.

• Turn the drip tray a quarter turn and remove it from the appliance.

• Clean the drip tray with a damp cloth.

• Only reinsert the drip tray once it is completely dry.

• Pay attention to the tabs on the drip tray. These must be inserted into the openings on the appliance before the drip tray is reattached with a quarter turn.

Housing

Only use a slightly damp cloth to clean the outside of the appliance. Only put the appliance back into operation once it is completely dry.

Storage

• Clean the appliance as described. Allow the accessories to dry completely.
  We recommend storing the appliance in its original packaging if you do not intend to use it for a longer period of time.
  Always store the appliance out of the reach of children in a well-ventilated and dry place.

WARNING: Dangerous Voltage!

The appliance must be disconnected from the power supply before the fluorescent tube is removed.

The fluorescent tube must be disposed of separately. Contact qualified specialists for this.

Due to their mercury content, T5 fluorescent tubes must not be disposed of with normal household waste. They must be taken to a suitable hazardous waste collection point or recycling centre.

Meaning of the "Dustbin" Symbol

Protect our environment: do not dispose of electrical equipment in the domestic waste.

Please return any electrical equipment that you will no longer use to the collection points provided for their disposal.

This helps avoid the potential effects of incorrect disposal on the environment and human health.

This will contribute to the recycling and other forms of re-utilisation of electrical and electronic equipment.

Information concerning where the equipment can be disposed of can be obtained from your local authority. Your dealer and contractual partner is also obliged to take back the old appliance free of charge.
