How to set up and use the TP-LINK VIGI C240 surveillance camera?
Frequently Asked Questions - 22/04/2026
Response Notice-Facile

The TP-Link VIGI C240 surveillance camera is set up in three main steps: physical mounting, powering on, and activation via an administration interface. Depending on your context (using with a TP-Link NVR or standalone), the method varies slightly.

Mounting and Power Supply
Start by mounting the camera according to the diagrams in the quick start guide included in the package. Connect it to the same network as your NVR (if there is one) or directly to your router/switch via an Ethernet cable. Power the camera using the included 12V DC power adapter or via PoE (802.3af/at) if your infrastructure supports it. Wait a few seconds for the camera to start up.

Method 1: Via the VIGI mobile app (recommended for remote access)
Download and install the TP-Link VIGI app on your smartphone or tablet. Open the app and log in with your TP-Link ID (create an account if necessary). Tap the + button at the top right and follow the instructions to add your camera: the app will guide you to activate the camera and allow you to view live video, change resolution settings (1080p Full HD), configure motion detection, and receive instant alerts. You will also be able to access your recordings stored on the microSD card (compatible up to 128 GB).

Method 2: Via Web browser (local access)
Find the camera's IP address by checking your router or Box's client page (it usually starts with 192.168.x.x). On your computer, open a web browser, enter https://[camera's IP address] (for example https://192.168.0.60) and confirm. The camera will prompt you to select your country/region and time zone. Then set a security password to activate the camera. Once activated, you will see the live video preview and can access the Settings page to change the resolution, configure motion detection, automatic recording, or schedule monitoring times.

Method 3: Via VIGI Security Manager (Windows only, for local management)
Download VIGI Security Manager from https://www.tp-link.com/download-center/, install it on your computer, and launch the application. It will automatically detect the TP-Link cameras present on the same local network. Go to Settings > Discovered Devices, click on + Add for each detected camera, set a password, and confirm to add them to your system.

Configuration with a TP-Link VIGI NVR
If you are using a TP-Link VIGI NVR, ensure it is functioning properly before proceeding. Access the NVR's administration page, right-click on the screen, and select Add Camera. Select the C240 camera and click on + to add it directly. If Plug & Play is disabled, you will need to create a password or use a predefined password. Once added, you will immediately see the live videos and can manage the camera from the centralized NVR interface.

Key Features to Utilize
The VIGI C240 records in 1080p Full HD with infrared night vision automatically activated in low light. Its 90-degree field of view provides good coverage of a room or outdoor area. You can insert a microSD card (up to 128 GB) directly into the camera for continuous or motion-detection recordings. For security, always change the default password after activation. If you need to access the camera remotely or outside your local network, the VIGI app is the ideal solution: it encrypts your data and provides real-time alerts.

Respond (be the first)
Is the TP-LINK VIGI C240 a fixed or motorized camera?
Frequently Asked Questions - 22/04/2026
Response Notice-Facile

The TP-Link VIGI C240 is a fixed lens surveillance camera. It does not have motorized functions for pan, tilt, or zoom (PTZ). The field of view is fixed at 90 degrees and cannot be changed remotely.

Specifically, this means that:

  • You need to precisely orient the camera at the time of installation to cover the desired area.
  • It is impossible to control the movement or direction of the camera remotely via the TP-Link VIGI app or management interface.
  • The fixed field of view of 90 degrees must be taken into account when choosing the installation point.

To monitor multiple areas or have better flexibility, you have two options: install the camera at a strategic point that covers the entire surveillance area, or use multiple fixed cameras positioned in different locations. This multi-camera approach is actually common in professional video surveillance systems to ensure complete coverage without relying on motorization.

Respond (be the first)
Does the TP-LINK VIGI C240 support LAN cable connection?
Frequently Asked Questions - 22/04/2026
Response Notice-Facile

Yes, the TP-LINK VIGI C240 surveillance camera supports connection via LAN cable (Ethernet). Here are the important points to know:

  • Stable wired connection: By using a LAN cable to connect the camera to a router or switch, you benefit from a more stable and reliable network connection compared to Wi-Fi.
  • Installation: Simply plug an RJ45 Ethernet cable between the camera and your network equipment. The camera will then be accessible on the local network for management and viewing of images.
  • Advantages: This connection allows for smooth video streaming, a more secure setup, and better overall performance, especially in environments where Wi-Fi is unstable or unavailable.

In summary, the support for LAN cable on the TP-LINK VIGI C240 facilitates a reliable and high-performance network installation for your video surveillance system.

What is the default username and password for the TP-LINK VIGI C240?
Frequently Asked Questions - 22/04/2026
Response Notice-Facile

Default credentials: When first connecting to the TP-Link VIGI C240, use the following credentials: admin for the username and admin for the password. These default credentials allow access to the camera via the web browser (at the default IP address https://192.168.0.60).

First activation: After entering your default credentials, the camera will immediately prompt you to set a new password to activate the device. This step is mandatory and significantly enhances the security of your device.

Access via web browser: First, find the IP address of your camera on the client page of your router. Open a browser, enter https://[camera IP address] (https://192.168.0.60 by default), log in with the admin/admin credentials, select your country and time zone, and then set your new password.

Access via the VIGI app: If you are using the TP-Link VIGI app, you will need to create a TP-Link account or log in with your existing TP-Link credentials (different from admin/admin). The app will then allow you to configure and manage your camera remotely.

Factory reset: If you have lost your password, you can reset the camera by pressing the reset button for about 10 seconds. This operation will restore the default credentials (admin/admin), allowing you to reconnect and reconfigure the camera.

Respond (be the first)
