Frequently Asked Questions - Real Moon 1980 CKRL2225 Christiaan van der Klaauw

How to adjust the moon phase?
Gently pull the crown to position ①. Turn the crown until the moon starts to rotate, then continue to the desired position (new moon, first quarter, full moon, last quarter). Then push the crown back to its initial position.
How to set the date (day and month)?
Use the supplied adjustment tool to press the pusher Ⓓ located at 9 o'clock on the left side of the case. Each press advances the day and month. Perform this adjustment when the displayed time is between 4:00 and 8:00 or between 16:00 and 20:00 to avoid damaging the movement.
How to set the time?
Pull the crown to position ②. Turn it to adjust the hands. When the desired time is reached, push the crown back fully. Ensure the adjustment is done between 4:00 and 8:00 or between 16:00 and 20:00 for the date.
What do the eclipse indicators mean?
The right subdial displays solar or lunar eclipses. The eclipse hand, with a striped section, points to the event. A red arrow indicates the node: upward for the ascending node, downward for the descending node. A solar eclipse only occurs at new moon, a lunar eclipse only at full moon.
What does the solar declination represent?
The solar declination is indicated at the top of the dial. It represents the tilt of the Earth relative to the Sun (23.5°). The maximum value corresponds to the longest day (June 21), the minimum value to the shortest day (December 21). This explains the seasons.
Can I wear my watch underwater?
No, this watch is not water-resistant. Avoid wearing it in the shower, bath, or while swimming. Exposure to water could seriously damage it.
Is it an automatic or quartz watch?
It is a mechanical watch with automatic winding (perpetual). It winds through the movements of your wrist, but can also be manually wound by turning the crown clockwise.
What to do if I don't wear the watch regularly?
It is advisable to place the watch on a mechanical winder to keep it running and maintain its energy. If you do not wear it, wind it manually from time to time.
What type of strap is included?
The strap is alligator leather. It can be replaced with a similar strap from an authorized Christiaan van der Klaauw dealer.
Where can I get my watch repaired?
For any repairs or maintenance, contact an authorized Christiaan van der Klaauw astronomical watch dealer. They are qualified to perform the necessary work on this complex model.

INSTRUCTION MANUAL REAL MOON 1980

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF CHRISTIAAN VAN DER KLAAUW ASTRONOMICAL WATCHES

Congratulations with your purchase of a Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watch. Christiaan van der Klaauw has been making superb watches - unique, exclusive and innovative - for more than 40 years. All these watches are made by hand by passionate watchmakers, with a central theme that appeals strongly to the imagination: astronomy. This is a logical relationship for Christiaan van der Klaauw - after all, time has always been determined on the basis of astronomical values. So we can justifiably state in connection with our watches: Astronomy, time in its purest form.

Your wristwatch is fitted with an automatic movement. When you wear your watch, the movements of your wrist are automatically converted into the energy required to operate your watch. You can also wind the watch by hand. If you do not wear the watch, we advise you to place it in a watch winder.

Turn clockwise.

Exposing our watches to water is not recommended. Your watch may be damaged if you wear it while swimming or in the shower.

ENGLISH

Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches are fitted with a strap made of alligator leather. This strap can be replaced. Contact an official dealer of Christiaan van der Klaauw Astronomical Watches if a replacement is required.

Specifications

The following information is displayed on the Real Moon 1980:

Ⓐ hours;
B minutes;
© date (calendar day and month);
⑭ the real moon phase;
© solar eclipse (total or partial); lunar eclipse (total or partial);
⑤ declination of the Sun.

Adjustment

The settings of your watch can be adjusted by using the different positions of the crown and the push button Ⓓ.

The crown has three positions:

① this is the position of the crown when you are wearing the watch. In this position, you can wind the watch by hand.
① setting the moon phase.
② setting the time.

Before adjusting the settings of the Real Moon 1980, the time displayed on the watch must be between 04:00 and 08:00 or 16:00 and 20:00. Once this is the case,

use the enclosed accessory to push in the push button ⑦ located at the 9 o'clock position on the left-hand side of the watchcase. Push the button repeatedly to move the day and month indicators forward.

The eclipse indicator is linked to the day and month indicators and therefore moves forward automatically with these.

To then set the watch to the correct moon phase, carefully pull out the crown to position ①.

Turn the crown so that the moon globe starts to turn and continue until the correct moon phase is reached. Then pull out the crown as far as possible (position ②).

ENGLISHENGLI

Now move the hands forward until the correct time is reached. When the hands show the right time, then push the crown in again completely.

Important

If you do not wear the watch, we advise you to place it in a watch winder. Turn clockwise.

Functionalities

© The month and date are displayed at the 9 o'clock position.

① The moon phases are shown three dimensionally at the 6 o'clock position. If the Moon is completely black, then it is new moon. This is followed by the waxing moon up to the first quarter, with the right-hand side of the Moon visible. After that, the full moon is displayed, followed by the waning moon up to the last quarter, with the left-hand side of the Moon visible. The lunar cycle ends

with the new moon, and then starts again at the beginning.

⑤ The dial at the 3 o'clock position shows whether a total or partial solar or lunar eclipse is possible anywhere in the world. The eclipse hand is then vertical in the striped section. A solar eclipse only occurs if there is a new moon. A lunar eclipse only occurs if there is a full moon. If the eclipse occurs when the Moon is at the ascending node, the red arrow on the eclipse hand points upwards. If the Moon is at the descending node, the

red arrow on the eclipse hand points downwards.

The declination is shown at the 12 o'clock position. The Earth is at an angle of 23,5^ compared to the Sun. As a result of this axial tilt, the number of hours of sunlight varies, which is why we have seasons. The maximum value of the declination indicator is shown on the longest day (21 June). When the declination is lowest, this is the shortest day (21 December).
