Use The WMF KÜCHENminis® espresso maker is a space-saving and energy-effi cient kitchen appliance. It can be used to prepare two or four cups of freshly brewed aromatic espresso coffee. The espresso maker is simple to operate. For optimal results, we recommend using a medium-fi ne ground espresso powder. Before using for the fi rst time Set-up
1. Begin by cleaning all parts as described in the section entitled “Cleaning and care”.
2. Any length of non-required cable should be fed into the bottom of the base.
3. Place the appliance on a stable, water-resistant surface.
Starting up the appliance
1. Fill the reservoir with cold water to the two- or four-cup mark, as required.
Under no circumstances should you fi ll the reservoir beyond the four-cup mark.
2. Use the fi lter basket to prepare four cups.
If you want to make only two cups, place the adapter into the fi lter basket before fi lling it with espresso powder. Now pour espresso powder into the basket and smooth the surface without pressing it down. Note: if the espresso powder is pressed into the fi lter basket, the holes may become clogged. Use your fi nger to remove any powder on the edges. This ensures that the appliance can seal properly.
3. Insert the fi lter basket into the water reservoir.
4. Place the jug on top of the water reservoir and screw it closed by turning it in a clockwise
5. Place the appliance on the base and plug the mains plug into an earthed wall socket. Turn on the
appliance using the on/off switch. The indicator light glows white.
6. Once brewing has fi nished, the appliance switches off automatically and the indicator light turns
7. The coffee is served directly from the appliance. For an even strength and a balanced aroma, stir
the espresso in the jug or swirl the jug carefully. Safety system A safety valve protects the appliance against over-pressurising. For this reason, it must not be tampered with under any circumstances. The pressure valve is not guaranteed to work safely if the appliance is operated with too much water. If the appliance is accidentally operated without water, a thermostat switches the appliance off to protect it from overheating. The appliance is ready to use again once it has cooled down. Should the fi rst thermostat malfunction due to improper use, an additional temperature limiter provides reliable protection. Cleaning and care Cleaning Unplug the mains plug and allow the appliance to cool down. Do not immerse the appliance in water, but instead just use a damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid to clean its exterior. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents. Remove the fi lter and the sealing ring from underneath the jug by inserting a spoon handle under the sealing ring and levering it off. After cleaning, place the fi lter back in position, then reinsert the sealing ring. The jug, fi lter basket and adapter can be rinsed off under running water. In order to ensure the long-term functioning of the pressure relief valve, use your fi nger to push the plunger slightly outwards from the inside each time you clean the machine. Descaling Please descale your appliance regularly using a high-quality commercial descaling agent. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions, particularly with regard to the subsequent cleaning with clear water, which is essential! Suitable descaling agents contain inhibitors that protect appliances against damage to seals and surfaces, do not cause additional deposits and have no taste. Do not use descaling agents that are unsuitable for your appliance (such as substances based purely on vinegar or citric acid). Our warranty does not cover damage caused by using unsuitable descaling agents or failure to follow the descaling instructions. Please keep descaling agents out of reach of children and make sure you do not inhale any of the steam given off during descaling.14 15

Screw the jug and water reservoir together straight or a little more tightly. The espresso has too little aroma. Too little or too mild espresso powder was used. Fill the filter basket completely with espresso powder or use a stronger type of espresso. The espresso is too strong and/or tastes bitter. The espresso powder is too finely ground or was pressed down too hard. Too much or too strong espresso powder was used.
