2.2 What is Shiatsu massage?

Shiatsu is a form of finger pressure massage and one of the most important massaging techniques along with manual lymphatic drainage and reflexology. This form of physical therapy was developed in Japan but stems from traditional Chinese massage. Gentle stroking and beneficial pressure application techniques are used to awaken life forces and encourage them to flow through the body. The object of the massage is not just to ease tension, but also to optimise the flow of life force and harmonise body and soul.

2.3 How does the MEDISANA Shiatsu massage seat cover work?

In the MEDISANA Shiatsu massage seat cover MC 830 you have a modern device for genuine Shiatsu style back massages.

The MEDISANA Shiatsu massage seat cover MC 830 has four rotating massage heads for Shiatsu massage of the three zones "Upper Back", "Lower Back" and "Full Back". The device is equipped with an additional 3-level vibration function in the seat and a heat function which works on the entire back area. The unique combination of intensive shiatsu and vibration massage with radiated heat makes the massage seat cover an effective and relaxing treatment. Their settings can be comfortably adjusted by means of the easy-to-handle control unit 10.

3.1 Usage

The use of the Shiatsu massage seat cover will improve your wellbeing after a stressful day. The massage effect is particularly useful for treating tense muscles and tired tissue. The unit provides pleasant relaxation for overcoming everyday stress. The massaging can improve your well-being, and is also useful in the sport and fitness areas.

Massage heads made of high-quality Technogel® - made in Germany provide a gentler and more natural massage than conventional synthetic massage heads. In accordance with the principals of Shiatsu massage only the muscles are stimulated, the spine and hip bones are spared. For this reason the overall effect of the application is distinctly more be beneficial and relaxing

3.2 Operation

Start-up

• Place the massage seat cover on a high chair or armchair and attach it to this by means of the fasteners ① on the back. Ensure that the seat cover is supported over its entire area and has a sufficiently high backrest.
• Insert plug 2 into the mains socket. Ensure that the power supply is easily accessible.
  Take a seat on the Shiatsu massage seat cover and familiarise yourself with the functions.

Operating the unit

The MC 830 shiatsu seat cover has three functions for an effective massage: Shiatsu massage, vibration massage and heat. The heat function can only be used together with the shiatsu massage, during which the vibration massage can also be activated. Do not use the unit for more than 15 minutes at a time. After approx. 15 minutes, the unit will switch off automatically. Always allow the unit to cool down fully before you use it again.

Use the buttons on control pad to operate the massage seat cover:

• Switch on the device by pressing On/Off button 12. The yellow power LED illuminates.
• When the "Upper Back" massage button is pressed, the green LED next to the button illuminates and the Shiatsu massage heads move from the "Park" position at the base of the backrest, up to the shoulder area, massaging the back in a circular motion whilst doing so. Once the uppermost position has been reached, the direction of rotation of the massaging heads is reversed. The heads then travel down to the centre of the back. Once the heads reach this point, the direction of rotation is reversed again and then travel up the back again. If you press button during the massage, this function is switched off and the massage heads remain stationary in their current position.
• If you press the "Lower Back" massage button ⑦, the green LED next to the button illuminates. The Shiatsu massage heads ③ travel up and down the lower half of the back in a circular motion. The reversal of the direction of rotation takes place when the respective end positions are reached. Pressing button ⑦ during the massage, switches off this function and the massage heads remain stationary in their current position.
• If you press the "Full Back" massage button 11 the function procedure is similar to pressing buttons 6 and 7, except that it is for the entire back.
• You can enhance the shiatsu massage at any time with a vibration massage for your thighs by pressing the vibration massage button ⑧ .

• The vibration massage in the upper thigh area can be operated separately by pressing vibration massage button 8. The LED 1 right on top of the button illuminates and both vibration massage motors 4 are switched on. They begin with a gentle massage. Press button 8 again and the vibration level increases (medium intensity massage, LED 2). Press button 8 a third time and the vibration level increases (highest intensity massage, LED 3). After button 8 is pressed a fourth time, the vibration massage is switched off and the LED 3 above the button extinguishes.

• The heat function can be activated at any time with the shiatsu massage, during which the vibration massage can also be activated. Press the heat button to activate the function; the red LED lights up. The heat is radiated across the vertical central axis of the entire back area. At the same time infrared light is at work in the Shiatsu massage cushion. Press the button again to deactivate the heat function; the red LED extinguishes.

Switch off the device

• Press the On/Off button ⑫. The yellow power LED begins to flash and the massage heads travel back down to the "Park" position. When this position is reached, the yellow LED extinguishes. If you press the On/Off button ⑫ when one of the massage functions is switched on, the vibration motors and the heat function just stop immediately. First the massage heads travel downwards to the "Park" position. The yellow LED flashes meanwhile and then extinguishes.

• After each use, switch the device off using the On/Off switch 12 and remove the plug 2 from the mains socket. Always store control pad 10 in its bag 5.

4 Miscellaneous

4.1 Cleaning and maintenance

• Before cleaning the device, make sure that it is turned off and the mains plug is removed from the socket. Allow the unit to cool down.
• Only clean the Shiatsu massage seat cover with a soft cloth slightly dampened with a mild detergent (e.g. soap pads). Under no circumstances should you use aggressive detergents, strong brushes, solvents or alcohol.
• When cleaning, never immerse the unit in water and make sure that no water gets into the unit.
• Wait until the device is completely dry before using it again.
• Undo any kinks in the cable.
• You should ideally store the device in its original packaging and keep it in a clean, dry place.

4.2 Disposal

This product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste.

All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commercial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

5 Warranty

Warranty and repair terms

Please contact your supplier or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.
2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge within the warranty period.
3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the unit or for the replacement parts.
4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. non- observance of the user instructions.
b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer or unauthorised third parties.
c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer to the consumer or during transport to the service centre.
d. Accessories which are subject to normal wear and tear.
