Frequently Asked Questions - CSGP 1400 MIELE

What types of food can I cook with the CSGP 1400 plate?
You can cook meats, sausages, fish, seafood, vegetables, fruit, bread, eggs, pancakes, and tofu. The cooking table provided in the manual gives approximate times depending on thickness and type of food.
Do I need to preheat the plate before use?
Yes, it is recommended to preheat the grill plate at power level 12 for about 10 minutes before placing food on it.
How should I clean the grill plate after use?
Allow the plate to cool, then wash it with a sponge and hot water with a little dish detergent. For stubborn dirt, soak then use a soft brush.
Can I use the plate without the supplied frame?
No, the plate must always be used with its frame. Never place the plate directly on the grid or on the heating elements.
What is the difference between the smooth side and the ridged side?
The ridged side is recommended for uncoated meat as it creates grill marks and allows fat to drain. The smooth side is suitable for all types of food, including vegetables and eggs.
Can I use the CSGP 1400 plate on appliances other than the CS 1312 or CS 1322?
No, this plate is exclusively designed for Miele CS 1312 and CS 1322 appliances. Any other use may be dangerous and voids the warranty.
How do I install the plate on the grill?
Remove the grid, raise the heating elements, remove the lava stone tray if present. Check that the water tray is filled to the mark. Lower the heating elements, place the frame with the lugs facing up, then place the plate on the frame.
Do I need to fill the water tray with water?
Yes, the grill's water tray must be filled with water up to the indicated mark: approximately 2.5 L for the CS 1312 and 4.0 L for the CS 1322. Check the level during cooking and add cold water if necessary.
Where can I order replacement accessories?
You can order the frame and handle online, from Miele customer service, or from your Miele dealer.
Should I salt food before or after cooking?
It is recommended to salt food after cooking to prevent it from drying out. Salt can also damage the plate surface.

The griddle, the frame and the handle can all be ordered individually if a replacement is required.

These can be ordered via the internet at www.miele-shop.com, from Miele (see back cover for contact details) or from your Miele dealer.

Correct use

This griddle is designed to be used with the Miele CS 1312 and CS 1322 open barbecue grills only. It is intended for domestic use only, and may only be used as described in these instructions. Any other usage is at the owner's risk and could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for damage resulting from its incorrect or improper use.

Cleaning for the first time

Clean the griddle with a solution of warm water and a little washing-up liquid applied with a soft sponge.

Using the griddle

Food can be cooked on either the ribbed or the smooth side of the griddle. We recommend the ribbed side for meat that is not coated in breadcrumbs, and the smooth side for all other types of food.

The lava rock container must be removed when the griddle is being used, and the grill trough filled with water.

The grill has 2 heating elements which can be switched on and regulated independently. Both elements can be used together when grilling large quantities of food. For smaller quantities, the front element can be used to grill the food whilst the rear element can be used to keep food warm at setting 3.

Never place the griddle on the grill rack or directly onto the heating elements to grill. The griddle must be only used in the frame supplied.

To prepare the grill

  • Remove the grill rack (or racks, depending on model), raise the heating elements and remove the lava rock container if necessary.

  • Check that there is enough water in the grill trough. The grill trough must be filled up to mark ①: Approx. 2.5 litres for the CS 1312, and approx. 4.0 litres for the CS 1322.

Then place the griddle on the frame.

Pins ③ on the frame cannot be slotted into holes ④ . See illustration.

Grilling

Switch the grill on.
Pre-heat the griddle for approx. 10 minutes at setting "12".
Turn the food once or more during grilling.

When grilling, keep an eye on the level of water in the trough. If necessary, add more water.

Useful tips

  • Dab wet food with kitchen paper to absorb surplus moisture and avoid spitting.
  • To prevent food drying out, do not season with salt until after it has been cooked.
  • Marinating often improves the flavour of food to be grilled.
  • Only use fats and oils which can be heated to high temperatures.
Brush unmarinated food with a little oil, or brush the griddle with oil.

After grilling

Switch the grill off.
Let the griddle cool down to a safe temperature for handling it before taking it off the grill. Use the handle supplied for lifting it.
Clean the griddle and the frame with a solution of warm water and a little washing-up liquid applied with a soft sponge. Soak to remove heavy soiling, and then scrub clean with a brush.
