RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!

  • The hair straightener can only be connected to a properly installed power socket with a mains voltage of 100 - 240V , 50 / 60Hz . The power socket used must always be easily accessible so that the plug can be quickly removed in an emergency.
  • Remove the plug from the power socket in the event of malfunctions and prior to cleaning the hair straightener.
  • Always remove the power cable (3) from the power socket by pulling on the plug. Never pull on the power cable (3) itself.
  • The power cable (3) must not become wet or damp during operation. Always arrange the power cable (3) in such a way that it is not jammed or damaged.
  • In the event that the hair straightener, power cable (3) or plug are damaged, stop operation immediately and disconnect the hair straightener from the mains in order to avoid hazards. Only allow an authorised service department to carry out repairs.
  • The hair straightener must not be used outdoors.
  • Never touch the hair straightener, power cable (3) or plug with wet hands.

  • Do not wind the power cable (3) around the hair straightener, and protect it from damage. The power cable (3) must not be squashed or bent. Always lay the power cable (3) in such a way that nobody can trip over it.

  • Under no circumstances may the hair straightener be immersed in water, and no liquids may ingress into the housing of the hair straightener. The hair straightener must not be exposed to any moisture or used outdoors. Should liquids ingress into the housing of the hair straightener, immediately remove the plug from the power socket and allow an authorised service department to repair the hair straightener.
  • Disconnect the hair straightener from the mains as soon as it has been used. The hair straightener is only fully free of electric current once the plug has been removed from the power socket.
  • Never operate the hair straightener in the vicinity of water, especially not in the vicinity of a sink, bathtub or shower. Close proximity to water represents a grave hazard, even when the hair straightener has been switched off. For this reason, immediately remove the plug from the power socket after each use.

WARNING! RISK OF INJURY

  • Never leave the hair straightener unattended when it is switched on.
  • Never lay the hair straightener in the vicinity of sources of heat. Protect the power cable (3) from damage. For instance, do not arrange it over sharp edges.

  • If the hair straightener has fallen to the ground or been damaged, it must no longer be used. Allow it to be inspected and, if necessary, repaired by an authorised service department.

  • This hair straightener can be used by children aged eight and over, as well as by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or who lack experience and/or knowledge, provided they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the hair straightener and understand the resulting dangers.
Children must not play with the hair straightener.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance may not be performed by children, unless they are supervised.
  • The hair straightener does not contain any components that require maintenance. Never open the housing of the hair straightener to attempt to carry out repairs. Doing so no longer ensures the safety of the hair straightener and results in a loss of the warranty. Only allow an authorised service department to repair a defective device.
  • The hair straightener heats up during operation. When it is heated, only hold it by the handle in order to avoid burn injuries; do not hold it by the plates (5).

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - WARNING! RISK OF INJURY - 1

6. Before initial use

Remove the SHS 25 A1 hair straightener and all accessories from the packaging and check the completeness of the delivery. Remove the protective film. Keep the packaging material away from children and dispose of it in an environmentally-friendly manner.

Prior to using it for the first time, you must clean the hair straightener as described in the 'Cleaning' section.

6.1. Prepping hair

  • Hair should be clean, dry and free from styling products such as hair gel or wax. This excludes special products that support straightening or curling.
Before using the straightener on your hair, thoroughly comb it out to remove tangles.

7. Initial use

The hair straightener uses spring force to continually press the plates (5) together with a constant, ideal level of pressure. Separate the plates (5) in order to clamp sections of hair between them. To separate the plates, press the thumb of the hand you are using to hold the hair straightener against the elongated housing on the upper plate (5, arrow). After you have placed a section of hair onto the plate, remove your thumb from the housing on the upper plate (5). The section of hair is now secured between the plates (5).

7.1. Switching on and off

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Switching on and off - 1

Please make sure that the plates (5) are unsoiled. If necessary, clean them as described in the 'Cleaning' section.

  • Insert the plug into an easily accessible power socket.
  • Switch the ON/OFF switch (2) to the 'ON' position. The indicator light (1) will glow red to indicate that the hair straightener is in use.
  • After approximately one minute, the hair straightener will have heated up to a temperature of over 120^ . You can begin styling your hair once the device has reached this temperature. Depending on your hair type, you may want to wait a bit longer - until the hair straightener has reached its maximum temperature - before beginning to style your hair.
  • Once you have finished styling your hair, switch the ON/OFF switch (2) to the 'OFF' position. The indicator light (1) will turn off.
  • Remove the plug from the power socket and allow the hair straightener to fully cool off.

7.2. Straightening hair/Styling hair

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Straightening hair/Styling hair - 1

WARNING! Risk of injury! The plates (5) become very hot when in use. Never touch your scalp with the plates (5), and only hold the hair straightener by the handle when using it.

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Straightening hair/Styling hair - 2

As you straightening or style your hair, steam might come out of the steam outlets (6). Residual moisture from your hair escapes through these steam outlets (6). This protects your hair while you straighten or style it.

7.2.1. Straightening hair

Prep your hair as described in the 'Prepping hair' section.
- Start with the lower sections of hair at the back of your head, then work towards the front from the sides.
Pick up approximately 2 cm-wide sections of hair with two fingers from your free hand.
- Clamp the sections of hair between the plates (5), starting from the roots.
Now start to quickly glide the straightener down from your roots to the ends of your hair until no more hair is clamped between the plates.

Please note: If you allow the hair straightener to rest over a section of hair for too long, the hair may become damaged.

Use the hair straightener in the same way on each section of hair.
After you have straightened each section of hair, switch off the hair straightener and remove the plug from the power socket.

7.2.2. Styling hair

If you wish to use the hair straightener as a curling iron, proceed as follows:

Pick up approximately 2 cm-wide sections of hair with two fingers from your free hand.
- Clamp the sections of hair between the plates (5).

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Styling hair - 1

Now twist the hair straightener by around 90^ .

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Styling hair - 2

Now wrap the sections of hair around the plate in the same direction in which you just twisted the hair straightener in order to create a loop.
- Then glide the straightener down to the ends of your hair. Keep pulling the sections of hair taught to ensure that the hair is in continuous contact with the hair straightener and that it can properly absorb the heat.
Repeat the process with additional sections of hair to create more curls.

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Styling hair - 3

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Styling hair - 4

The tightness of the curls will depend upon the speed with which you glide the hair straightener down towards the ends of your hair. The slower the motion, the tighter the curls.

8. Cleaning

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Cleaning - 1

Risk of electric shock! Always remove the plug from the power socket before cleaning the hair straightener.

Never immerse the hair straightener in water or any other liquid during cleaning.

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Cleaning - 2

Warning of damage to property! Do not use any scratching or abrasive cleaning agents or abrasive objects (such as a metal scouser) for cleaning purposes. Failure to do so may cause the hair straightener to become damaged.

SILVERCREST SHS 25 A1 - Cleaning - 3

Risk of injury! Let the hair straightener cool off before cleaning it. Failure to do so poses a risk of burn injuries.

Clean the housing of the hair straightener and the plates (5) with a damp cloth.
- You can also add a mild cleaning agent to the cloth to get rid of stubborn soiling.
- Afterwards, remove cleaning agent residue with a cloth that has only been dampened with water.
Thoroughly dry the hair straightener after cleaning.
Only use the hair straightener again once it has fully dried.

9. Storing the device when not in use

After using the hair straightener, allow it to cool off on a heat-resistant surface.

You can use the hang-up loop (4) to hang up the hair straightener when it is not in use.

If the hair straightener is not going to be used for a long period of time, clean it as described in the 'Cleaning' section. Store the hair straightener in a clean, dry location out of reach of children.
