Frequently Asked Questions - USB Digital Audio Converter SONY

How to install the USB driver on Windows 98?
To install the driver, start Windows and close all applications. Connect the CAV-U5 converter to the computer using the supplied USB cable. The Add New Hardware Wizard appears. Follow the on-screen instructions. After installation, check the device status in the Device Manager.
Why is there no sound from the stereo system?
First check the connections: the USB cable must be connected directly to the computer (not via a hub), and the optical cable must be properly inserted into both devices. Make sure the USB driver is installed and the device is recognized in the Device Manager. Then check the multimedia settings in the Control Panel: select USB Audio Device as the preferred device and check Enable digital CD audio for the CD-ROM device.
Which operating systems are compatible with this converter?
The converter is compatible with Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows Me and Windows 2000 Professional. It does not work on Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT, or Macintosh systems.
Can I use this converter with a Mac?
No, the converter is not compatible with Apple Macintosh computers. The software requires an IBM PC/AT or compatible.
How to adjust multimedia settings in Windows?
Open the Control Panel, double-click on Multimedia, go to the Audio tab, and under Preferred device, select USB Audio Device. Click the options adjustment button, then in the Speaker window, set the volume sliders to maximum. In the CD Music tab, check Enable digital CD audio for the CD-ROM device.
What to do if the "Din Unlock" message appears or no sound is recorded?
This message usually indicates a synchronization problem. Check that the optical cable is properly connected. Restart the computer after driver installation. Also check the device status in the Device Manager and multimedia settings.
Does the converter work with a USB hub?
It is recommended to connect the converter directly to a USB port on the computer. Using a USB hub may cause malfunctions.
How to connect the optical cable?
Insert the optical cable plug into the DIGITAL OUT of the CAV-U5 converter and into the optical input of your MD deck or stereo system. Ensure the plug is straight when inserting to avoid damaging the connectors.
What items are included in the box?
The box contains: the CAV-U5 PC connection converter, a USB cable, an optical digital connection cable, the instruction manual and a warranty card.
What to do if the audio output stops during playback?
This may be due to excessive system load. Close unnecessary applications. A temporary power failure may also interrupt the audio output. If the problem persists, check the connections and restart the computer.
