1. Safety Instructions

Intended Use

KeMar KRC118 - Intended Use - 1

The rice cooker is suitable for the preparation of meals in a water bath.

It is not suitable for roasting food.

It is exclusively designed for the private household and it is not intended for commercial purposes.

The manufacturer does not accept any liability in the case of improper use caused by failure to observe this instruction manual.

In order to avoid hazards, only customer service is authorized to carry out repairs at the item.

The important precautions described within this section must be followed carefully to prevent the possibility of fire, electrical shock, personal injuries and/or property

damage:

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. Do not touch HOT surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
  3. To protect against fire, electrical shock, and personal injury, do not immerse cord, plugs, or appliance in water or other liquid.
  4. Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
  5. Unplug unit from outlet when not in use and before cleaning.
    Allow to cool before attaching or removing parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
  6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to an authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
  7. To protect against risk of electrical shock, do not force any foreign objects, such as pins and wires, into any openings.

  27. Do not operate the appliance on an unstable surface or on any surface that is not resistant to head.
  28. Do not touch the Lid Release button while carrying the appliance.
  29. Do not use any Inner Pot other than provided.
  30. Do not place the appliance near walls or furniture (within 12"/30cm).
  31. Do not place the appliance in the locations where hot cooking oil may splash onto the appliance or where the appliance is exposed to direct sunlight.
  32. Do not place a cloth or towels over the appliance during operation.
  33. Remove all foreign substances before using appliances.

2. Special Cord Set Instructions

A A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risks of becoming entagged in or tripping over a longer cord.
B Extension cords are available and may be uses if care is exercised in their use.
C If extension cord is used:

(1) The marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance.

(2) The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or table top where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.

3. Before first use

Remove the unit from packaging. HAZARD FOR CHILDREN – risk of death due to choking/swallowing of packaging. Keep packaging away from children. Dispose of it immediately.

Disconnect the power plug from the socket.

Clean the container with hot water and a bit of detergent prior to first use. Wipe the pot dry with a cloth.

Do not immerse electrical components under water!

Wipe the lid only with a damp cloth and then let it dry.

The appliance's heat-retention feature ALWAYS activates after the cooking time expires. To turn off the appliance completely, please ALWAYS disconnect the plug from the power source.

5. Quick reference guide

Preparing the dishes.

Follow the instructions to prepare the dishes.

Always make sure that dishes to be prepared are always fresh and of high quality.

Always make sure that meat, fish, seafood and poultry, for example, have been stored at temperatures below 5°C before use. Before use, vacuum bags have to be clean and unused in order to avoid impurities. Always prepare food only on clean working surfaces.

Wash your hands thoroughly before preparation.

Prepare the dishes in the correct size (thickness) and at the right temperature.

Cooking rice

Don't use rice bags or any ingredient that may generate foam, like cream, eggs and liquid dairies. Such might leak and damage the equipment and generate electric shock risks.

Make sure that no liquid or rice fall to the heating tray. The heating tray must be kept constantly dry and clean. Don't use vinegar, as it might damage the inner pot and the heating tray. Make sure that the steam separator is positioned correctly before turning on the device.

Use the following as a GUIDE only as you may change the amount of water to suit your personal taste:

How To Cook Rice

Accurately measure the rice, then wash it. correctincorrect

Add the correct amount of water and place the Inner Pot into main unit.
Wash rice, and put the rice into the Inner Pot.Choose the level of water, based on the selected menu setting and the quantity of the rice being cooked.If the water level is incorrect, excess water may boil over.Adjust the water level according to your own preference. The water level may be adjusted by up to 1⁄4 of a graduation level. If the amount of water is to great, it may boil over.Make sure that any rice grains or water droplets remaining on the outside of the Inner Pot or the inner wall of the main body are removed.Water remaining in these areas may cause noise during the cooking process.Gently turn the Inner Pot from side to side a few times to level the rice.

Plug the power cord into an outlet and turn on the device

  • To do so, push down the switch located on the front of the device until it makes a locking sound. This will turn on the „Kochen“ (Cooking) LED.
  • Once the rice cooking is finished, the device will automatically go to the temperature keeping mode.
  • The „Kochen“ (Cooking) LED will turn off and the power switch will go to the OFF position.
  • Serve the cooked rice. Use the supplied rice spoon to avoid scratching the inner pot. Don't use any sharp or pointy objects to take the rice out of the pot.

Stir the rice before serving. Cooked rice can be kept warm for up to 12 hours.

  • Once the cooking is completed, the KOCHEN (COOKING) lamp goes off. Then the WARM HALTEN (KEEP WARM) lamp will light and the unit will automatically switch operation to keep the rice warm.
  • Do not keep rice warm for more than 12 hours as rice may develop an odor, turn yellow, or dry out.
  • Do not unplug the power cord in WARM HALTEN(KEEP WARM)mode.
  • Risotto cannot be kept warm. When Risotto is cooked, the WARM HALTEN (KEEP WARM) lamp will flash. Do not keep Risotto warm, as it tends to become gluey.
  • Do not use WARM HALTEN(KEEP WARM)for mixed rice, brown rice, sweet rice or sprouted brown rice as they may begin to deteriorate or develop an odor.
  • Slight scorching may form on the bottom of the Inner Pot.
    • Unplug the power cord after use.
  • Do not reheat cold rice as this may cause the rice to develop an odor.

How to Cook Mixed/Sweet Rice

  • Wash rice and soak it in the water before cooking.
  • Mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  • Excess ingredients may cause the rice to cook improperly.
  • Use of seasonings may cause the rice to burn more easily.
  • Up to 4 cups of mixed rice or sweet rice can be cooked.
  • Fill up to the appropriate level with seasoned water.

Then place mixed ingredients on top of rice.

  • Place the Inner Pot into the main unit.
  • Then begin cooking.
    • After cooking rice mixed with other ingredients, as slight odor may remain.
  • Wash the Inner Pot and Inner Lid thoroughly after each use.

How to Cook Brown Rice

  • Wash brown rice and soak it in the water for an hour.
  • Brown rice can be cooked up to 4 cups.
  • Fill the Inner Pot with water up to the appropriate level.
  • Place the Inner Pot into the main unit.
  • Then begin cooking.

- For more delicious results with brown rice, soak the rice in water for an hour or more before cooking.

Steaming Food

Use the supplied steamer to steam your food. The cooking times provided in the following table are approximate and may serve as guidelines only.

Manually turn off the device after cooking. To do so, push up the power switch.

Add approximately 1 and 1⁄2 Measuring Cups (300 ml) of water in the Inner Pot.

6. Cleaning and maintenance

Switch the device into keep warm mode and disconnect it from the power supply. Before you clean the device, make sure it has cooled down sufficiently after use. Only pour the water after it has cooled down sufficiently in order to avoid scalding. Never submerge the device into water, as it may be damaged. The lid and the inner pot are dishwasher-proof. Before reusing the parts, dry them sufficiently, please.
