INTRODUCTION

SMART CHARGER is a technologically advanced product that uses an intelligent IC to detect voltage change, temperature change, short circuit, and time. It is capable of charging, discharging, and deep conditioning 4.8 - 6 - 7.2V Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) and Nickel Metal-Hydride (Ni-MH) cellular phone and video camera batteries of various models, and can also work with 4, 5, or 6 pieces of AA or AAA batteries with the change of a battery mounting adaptor.

WARNING

1. A new battery pack or batteries which have not been used for several months have their special characteristics that do not work well with the battery charger. Please use "Deep Condition Mode" on these batteries to remedy this condition.
2. This battery charger is designed to work with rechargeable AA and AAA size batteries, Ni-Cd or Ni-MH cellular phone and video camera batteries of 4.8V, 6V or 7.2V only. Do not attempt to recharge any other types of battery to avoid safety hazard.
3. It is normal for the battery and the adaptor to become warm when in operation. Please make sure there is adequate space and air for the charger to operate.
4. This battery charger is designed for indoor or in-vehicle use only at normal temperature. Keep the charger away from direct sunlight, moisture, direct heat, or extreme cold.

OPERATINGINSTRUCTION

1. Please read this instruction booklet carefully before usage for best results.
2. Please use different battery mounting adaptors for different brand/model of batteries.

INSERT BATTERY MOUNTING ADAPTOR

1. Align the dots on the battery charger unit and the battery mounting adaptor.
2. Push to the end until the battery mounting adaptor is securely in place.

REMOVE BATTERY MOUNTING ADAPTOR

1. Hold down the release button .
2. Push the battery mounting adaptor towards the release button until the dots on the battery charger unit and the battery mounting adaptor is aligned.
3. Remove the battery mounting adaptor.

POWER UP THE MAIN UNIT

1. Plug the AC/DC Adaptor into a convenient mains socket (If used in vehicle, plug the DC Plug into a cigarette lighter socket).
2. Insert the small "jack" plug on the other end of the power cord into the charger. Once the power supply has been connected, one of the "SPEED" LEDs will light up.

SPEED/CHARGE CURRENT CONTROL

1. Power up the main unit.
2. Put the switch at the position of the desired speed, and the corresponding LED will light up at the top right of the unit.
3. As a general guideline, it is recommended that "NORMAL" or "FAST" speed be used for most batteries, and the "SLOW" speed setting be used with batteries that have a small capacity (i.e. less than 600mA ), although the optimal speed/charge current differs for each type of battery.

SELF TEST MODE

1. This mode is designed to test whether the battery charger is fully functional.
2. Do not place a battery pack on the charger.
3. Plug the AC/DC Adaptor into a convenient mains socket (If used in vehicle, plug the DC plug into a cigarette lighter socket). Note : do not plug in the charger yet.
4. Push the DISCHARGE button and hold it down, and then insert the plug into the battery charger. One of the "SPEED" LEDs will light up. Release the DISCHARGE button immediately, and the battery charger will go into self test mode.
5. The self test mode LEDs will light up in the order of the chart downhere.

6. If the LEDs do not light accordingly, the battery charger is not fully functional.

□ indicates LED on, 忍 indicates LED blinks twice.

THE CHARGE MODE

1. Power up the main unit.
2. Place the battery pack into the battery mounting adaptor on the charger.
3. The charger will automatically analyse the battery and determine its voltage between 4.8V-6V-7.2V during the first minute. The LEDs for 40% - 80% -Ready will flash sequentially at this stage.
4. The charging process will then start up immediately. The "CHARGE" LED will light up, and power meter LEDs will light up according to the charged levels. The "READY" LED will light up as the "CHARGE" LED goes off when the charger LEDs in the power meter will go off and the "READY" LED will blink when the battery is fully charged. At this stage, the battery is ready to be taken out of the charger.
5. The charger will then go into TRICKLE charge mode automatically. This ensures the battery's capacity will remain at its optimum until the battery pack is removed from the charger.

The Discharge/Charge Mode and the Deep Conditioning Mode are used to remove memory effect from the battery to achieve usage time and to extend the battery's usage life.

THE DISCHARGE/CHARGE MODE

1. Power up the main unit and place the battery pack into the battery mounting adaptor on the charger.
2. The "CHARGER" LED will light up. Push the DISCHARGE button. The "CHARGE3 LED will go off, and the "DISCHARGE" LED will light up. The charger will begin to analyse the battery and will then start to discharge the battery.

(Note: The user can push the discharge button to switch between discharge and charge mode during the charger's operation)

1. When the discharge of the battery pack is completed, the charger will automatically switch to CHARGE mode.

THE DEEP CONDITIONING MODE

1. This mode is designed to be used for batteries that have a serious "memory effect". It is especially useful for recovering these batteries. If you think your battery's operating time has gone down significantly, try to rescue the battery by using this mode.

(Note: New batteries should also be deep conditioned before use)

1. Power up the main unit and place the battery pack into the battery mounting adaptor on the charger.

Push and hold until the READY LED flashes, then release the button.

1. When the "CHARGE" LED is on, push and hold down the DISCHARGE button for at least five seconds. The "CHARGE" LED will go off, the "DISCHARGE" LED will light up and the READY LED will flash three times consecutively. You can then release the DISCHARGE button.

2. The charger will automatically discharge and recharge three times, with an intermission of thirty minutes in between the cycles. The "READY" LED will flash two times consecutively, then one time to indicate the number of cycles to go. When the "READY" LED flashes while the other LEDs go off, the battery's memory is erased and ready for use.

3. If the battery's capacity is 700mAh , this mode will take approximately seven hours under fast speed.

For batteries that are used daily, it is recommended to discharge the battery once a week, and to deep condition the battery once a month in order to achieve optimum performance for the battery.

FOR CELLULAR PHONE/VIDEO CAMERA BATTERIES

1. This charger can be used with various brands/models of cellular phone/video camera batteries that are 4.8V, 6V, or 7.2V with the correct battery mounting adaptor.
2. To charge a different brand/model or rechargeable AA, AAA size batteries, simply purchase and use one of our other interchangeable battery mounting adaptors.

FOR AA- OR AAA-SIZE BATTERIES

1. This charger can to be used with 4, 5 or 6 pieces of AA or AAA size Ni-Cd and Ni-MH batteries with the correct battery mounting adaptor.
2. All the instructions also applies to the charging of these batteries.
