Clipping with comb attachment
Select the small or large comb attachment, depending on the desired hair length.
Hair length settings
-
The hair length settings are indicated in millimetres on the arms of the comb attachment. The settings correspond to the remaining hair length after cutting (fig. 2).
-
The small comb cuts hair to a length of 3mm , 6mm , 9mm , 12mm , 15mm , 18mm or 21mm .
- The large comb cuts the hair to a length of 23 ~mm , 26 ~mm , 29 ~mm , 32 ~mm , 35 ~mm , 38 ~mm or 41 ~mm .
1 Slide the arms of the comb attachment into the guiding grooves of the appliance until you hear a click (fig. 3).
Make sure that the arms of the comb attachment have been properly slid into the grooves on both sides.
2 Set the comb to the desired hair length by turning the hair length adjustment ring (Precision Zoom Lock™) to the right or to the left until the comb has been set to the desired hair length (fig. 4).
- We advise you to start clipping at the highest setting (large comb) and to reduce the hair length setting in small steps until you reach the desired hair length.
3 Switch the appliance on.
- Choose the appropriate hair cutting method from the booklet 'Modelling and Styling' or consult the interactive instruction CD-ROM.
Tip: If a lot of hair has accumulated in the comb, remove the comb attachment and blow and/or shake the hair from the comb. Removing the comb does not change the hair length setting.
Tip: Write down the hair length settings selected to create a certain hairstyle as a reminder for future clipping sessions.
Clipping without comb attachment
You can use the clipper without comb attachment to contour the neckline and the area around the ears. You can also find instructions and tips on the instruction CD-ROM.
Remove the comb attachment by pulling it off the appliance (fig. 5).
Never pull at the flexible top of the comb attachment. Always pull at the bottom part.
The comb attachment keeps the cutting unit at a certain distance from your head. This means that, if you use the clipper without the comb attachment, your hair will be cut off very close to the skin.

Clean the appliance every time you have used it.
Do not use abrasives, scourers or liquids such as alcohol, petrol or acetone to clean the appliance.
The appliance and the adapter may only be cleaned with the brush supplied.
I Make sure the appliance is switched off and disconnected from the mains before you start cleaning it.

The built-in rechargeable battery contains substances which may pollute the environment.

Einführung
Creating different hairstyles has become very easy with Philishave's new line of hair clippers. Forget those expensive and time-consuming appointments at the barber's. Create your own hairstyle at home, whenever you want! In the directions for use you can read how to charge, use, clean and store your clipper. In this booklet we show you the basic clipping techniques and how to use them to obtain the haircut you like. You've never done this before? No problem! Read these instructions and you will be able to create a neat, fashionable hairstyle straightaway.
Before you start clipping
Before you start clipping, it is important to familiarise yourself with the Philishave hair clipper by reading the directions for use. To get the best results, stick to the following procedure during clipping.
Before you start clipping we recommend that you do the following.
I First, find a comfortable place in front of a mirror where the person whose hair you are going to cut can sit down.
2 Make sure that the person's head is at the same level as your chest so that all parts of the head are clearly visible and within easy reach.
3 Comb the hair in the direction of growth. Now you are ready to start clipping.
Tip: to get the best results, only use the hair clipper on dry hair. Do not use it on freshly washed hair.
Basic clipping techniques
Start clipping
I Always start clipping the hair at the nape at the longest setting to establish whether you have set the comb attachment to the correct length setting. Adjust the setting, if necessary. When you have used the hair clipper before, start clipping at the longest
setting you have previously selected to create the same hairstyle. Use this length setting to clip the whole head (fig. 1).
2 Then use a shorter length setting to clip the areas near the temple and at the nape (fig. 2).
3 Finally, contour the hairline round the ears and at the nape (fig. 3).
Tip: regularly remove cut hair from the comb while clipping.
Clipping with comb attachment
The comb has been specially designed to always keep the cutting element at the same distance from the scalp. The flexible comb easily follows the contours of the head.
If you use the hair clipper with a comb attachment, you can obtain different hair lengths of up to 41 mm. The appliance comes with two comb attachments, offering 14 different hair length settings altogether (see table).
The hair length settings are indicated in millimetres on the arms of the comb attachment.
You can simply slide a comb attachment onto the appliance and choose the desired hair length setting.
Cutting length settings
Small Comb Large Comb setting hair length setting hair length
13mm823mm
26mm926mm
39mm 1029mm
4 12 mm 11 32 mm
5 15 mm 12 35 mm
6 18 mm 13 38 mm
721mm|441mm
Please note that with certain hair types the resulting hair length may deviate from the length indicated.
Clipping without comb attachment
You can obtain hair lengths of over 4cm by using a styling comb or your fingers together with the hair clipper without comb attachment.
Comb a small section of hair upwards against the direction of growth (fig. 4).
2 Lift the hair with the comb or hold it between your fingers until only the length that needs to be cut sticks out.
3 Use the clipper without the comb attachment to cut the hair protruding from the comb or fingers (fig. 5).
The right cutting techniques
- Always move the hair clipper AGAINST the direction of hair growth, otherwise it will not cut the hair properly (fig. 6).
- Make sure the comb attachment is always fully in contact with the scalp to obtain an even cutting result.
- Make slow and smooth movements and carefully follow the contours of the head.
Comb the hair frequently to remove cut hair. - When clipping the crown, pass the clipper slowly over the crown from different directions to achieve an even cutting result.
- Make overlapping passes over the head to ensure that the clipper catches all the hairs that need to be cut.
- Comb the hair in the direction of hair growth from time to time so that the clipper can catch the hair more easily.
To achieve a good result with curly, sparse or long and thin hair, use a comb to guide the hair towards the clipper.
Graduation
The Philishave hair clipper not only allows you to cut hair evenly at the same length all over the head, it also enables you to achieve a smooth transition from longer hair on top of the head to shorter hair on the back and sides of the head.
I First clip all the hair at the longest setting.
2 Then choose a shorter setting and cut the hair on all parts of the head except the top, where you want the hair to be longer.
3 You can repeat this procedure until the hair on every part of the head has the desired length and a smooth transition between the long hair on the top and the shorter hair on the back and sides of the head has been achieved.
Precise contouring without comb attachment
To contour the hairline round the ears and at the nape, remove the comb attachment by pulling it off the clipper.
Be careful when you are clipping without comb attachment, for the clipper will remove every hair it touches.
Contouring the hairline round the ears
I First comb the hair ends over the ear.
2 If necessary, bend the person's ear to get it out of the way (fig. 7).
3 Hold the clipper without comb attachment with the cutter pointing downwards (fig. 8).
4 Place one edge of the cutter onto the skin and then slowly and carefully shape the desired outline.
Always keep the teeth of the clipper at a safe distance from the ears. Tilt the clipper in such a way that only one edge of the cutting element touches the hair ends.
Trimming the sideburns
5 Turn the clipper and hold it with the cutter pointing downwards (fig. 9).
6 Cut only the hair ends. The hairline should be close to the ear.
Contouring the nape hairline
7 Use the clipper without the comb attachment and hold it with the cutter pointing downwards (fig. 10).
8 Make slow and steady downward strokes.
9 Do not place the clipper too high up on the back of the head. Follow the natural hairline.
10 Do not try to comb the hair downwards with the clipper, as the appliance will remove all the hair it touches.
