SKWS 5 A1 Introduction Information about these operating instructions Congratulations on the purchase of your new appliance. You have selected a high-quality product. The operating instructions are part of this product. They contain important information about safety, usage and disposal. Before using the product, please familiarise yourself with all operating and safety instructions. Use the product only as described and for the range of applications specified. Please also pass these operating instructions on to any future owner. Copyright This documentation is protected by copyright. Any copying or reproduction, including in the form of extracts, or any reproduction of images (even in a modified state), is permitted only with the written authorisa- tion of the manufacturer. Proper use This appliance is intended exclusively for the weighing of foodstuffs in private households. It is not intended for commercial or industrial applications. The manufacturer assumes no responsibility for damage caused by failure to observe these instructions, improper use, incompetent repairs, unauthorised modifications or for the use of non-approved replacement parts. Package contents and transport inspection The appliance is supplied with the following components as standard: ● Kitchen Scale ● 2x batteries type AAA, Micro ● Operating instructions NOTE ► Check the package for completeness and signs of visible damage. ► If the delivery is incomplete or damage has occurred as a result of defective packaging or during transport, contact the Service hotline (see section Service).GB

 15 ■ SKWS 5 A1 Unpacking ♦ Remove all parts of the appliance and the operating instructions from the box.

Remove all packaging material. Disposal of the packaging The packaging protects the appliance from damage during transport. The packaging materials have been selected for their environmental friendliness and ease of disposal, and are therefore recyclable. Returning the packaging to the material cycle conserves raw materials and reduces the amount of waste that is generated. Dispose of packaging materials that are no longer needed in accordance with applicable local regulations. NOTE ► If possible, keep the original packaging of the appliance for the entire duration of the warranty period so that the appliance can be packed properly for return shipment in the event of a warranty claim.■ 16 

SKWS 5 A1 Safety WARNING! RISK OF INJURY! ► This appliance may be used by children aged 8 years and above and by persons with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge, provided that they are under supervision or have been told how to use the appliance safely and are aware of the potential risks. ► Do not allow children to use the appliance as a plaything. ► Cleaning and user maintenance tasks may not be carried out by children unless they are supervised. CAUTION – PROPERTY DAMAGE! ► When inserting the batteries, ensure that the polarity is correct. Do not use any force to insert the batteries. ► Never place more than 5000 grams or 5200 grams (tare) on the scales. ► Ensure that no liquids can get into the scales. ► Avoid contact with solvents and with corrosive or abrasive cleansing agents! ► Always use the scales on a flat and solid surface. ► Do not expose the scales to high temperatures or magnetic fields. ► Avoid electrostatic charges and discharges. These can cause erroneous displays and/or the sudden deactivation of the scales.GB

This appliance uses batteries. When handling batteries, please observe the following: RISK OF EXPLOSION! ► Do not throw batteries into a fire. Do not recharge batteries. ► Never open batteries and never solder or weld batteries. There is a risk of explosion and injury! ► Check the condition of the batteries at regular intervals. Leaking batteries can cause damage to the appliance. ► If you do not intend to use the appliance for an extended period, remove the batteries. ► If the batteries have leaked, use protective gloves. Clean the battery compartment and the battery contacts with a dry cloth. ► Keep batteries out of the reach of children. Children might put batteries into their mouth and swallow them. If a battery is swallowed, medical assistance must be sought immediately.■ 18

1) Turn the scales over and place them on a soft underlay to avoid scratching

2) Open the battery compartment .

3) Remove the battery separation strips by pulling them out.

4) Reinsert the batteries if necessary and then close the battery compartment .

The scales are now ready for use. Inserting/replacing the scales batteries NOTE Insert new batteries (type AAA, Micro, LR03) into the battery compartment !

1) Turn the scales over and place them on a soft underlay to avoid scratching

2) Open the battery compartment .

3) Remove the old batteries if any are inserted.

4) Insert the new batteries. Note the polarity marked in the battery compart-

NOTE ► If the batteries in the scales become too weak, the display will show "Lo". Please replace the batteries.GB

 19 ■ SKWS 5 A1 Setting up the appliance Place the kitchen scales on a level, non-slip surface.

This appliance is equipped with non-slip rubber feet. Furniture surfaces may be made of a variety of materials and are treated with many different types of cleaning agents. Therefore, it is not possible to entirely exclude the pos- sibility that some of these materials contain substances that could corrode and soften the appliance's rubber feet. If possible, place an anti-slip mat under the feet of the appliance. Operation Weighing items

1) Press the on/off button / zero button . The appliance switches on.

The display shows "0", the unit of measurement set and the symbol. NOTE The scales can show weights in both the metric (litres, millilitres) and the Anglo- American unit system (ounce, fluid ounce).

3) Place the items to be weighed on the scale. The weight and the unit of

measurement you have set will be shown in the display

4) Read the weight off. If you do not want to weigh any further items, remove

the weighed items from the scales.

5) If you want to add further items to be weighed, proceed as described in the

section "Adding further items (tare function)". The appliance switches off automatically after around 2 minutes.■ 20 

SKWS 5 A1 Adding further items (tare function) The tare function is useful if you wish to weigh the foodstuffs in a container but do not wish to weigh the container itself. ■ Press the on/off button / zero button . Place the empty container on the scales and press the on/off button / zero button again. The scales indicate a weight of "0" grams again. ■ Depending on the weight of the container (initial weight) the function and the symbol display on the kitchen scales changes. Weight of container (initial weight) less than 200 g; the display shows the symbol NOTE ► As long as you can see the symbol on the scales you can weigh a further 5000 g. ■ Now place the amount to be weighed on the scales. The weight of the items you have added will be shown on the display . ■ Press the on/off button / zero button once. The scales indicate a weight of "0" grams again. ■ As long as the weight of the added items does not exceed 200 g, the symbol will be shown in the display and you can repeat the above two steps as often as required (however, a total weight of 5000 g may not be exceeded). ■ If the weight of the added items exceeds 200 g (e.g. 250 g of flour), the display shows the symbol

■ Now place a further amount to be weighed on the scales. The weight of the items you have added and the symbol will be shown on the display . ■ Press the on/off button / zero button once and the overall weight of the weighed partial quantities will be displayed. The weight of the container is not included in the overall weight. ■ Press the on/off button / zero button once again. The scales will again show "0" grams and the symbol. You can repeat these steps as often as required (however, a total weight of 5000 g may not be exceeded). Weight of container (initial weight) more than 200 g; the display shows the symbol ■ Now place a further amount to be weighed on the scales. The weight of the items you have added and the symbol will be shown on the display .GB

The weight of the container is included in the overall weight. ■ Press the zero button once again. The scales will again show "0" grams and the symbol. You can repeat these steps as often as required (however, a total weight of 5000 g may not be exceeded). NOTE ► Never place more than 5000 grams or 5200 grams (tare) on the scales. If the maximum weight capacity is exceeded, the scales will show "Err" on the display . Switching the scales off ■ Press and hold the on/off button / zero button to switch the scales off. ■ The scales switches off automatically after around 2 minutes if… – you do not press any buttons, – you do not place any items on the scales, – you do not remove any items from the scales. Cleaning and care

CAUTION – PROPERTY DAMAGE

Damage to the appliance! ► To avoid irreparable damage to the appliance, ensure that no moisture can get into the appliance during cleaning. ► Do not use abrasive or chemical cleaners, nor pointed or scratchy objects to clean the appliance's surfaces. ■ Wipe the scaleswith a damp cloth. For stubborn soiling, add a little mild detergent to the cloth.■ 22 

SKWS 5 A1 Storage/disposal Storage Store the appliance in a clean and dry location. Remove the batteries before long periods of non-use. Disposal of the appliance Never dispose of the appliance in your normal domestic waste. This product is subject to the provisions of European Directive 2012/19/EU-WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). Dispose of the appliance via an approved disposal company or your municipal waste facility. Please comply with all applicable regulations. Please contact your waste disposal centre if you are in any doubt. Batteries should not be disposed of in the domestic waste. For this reason, you should always remove the batteries from the appliance be- fore disposing of it. Consumers are legally obliged to dispose of (rechargeable) batteries at a collection point in their community/city district or at a retail store. This obligation is intended to ensure that batteries are disposed of in an envi- ronmentally responsible manner. Only dispose of batteries when they are fully discharged. If this product has any faults, you, the buyer, have certain statutory rights. Your statutory rights are not restricted in any way by the warranty described below. Warranty conditions The validity period of the warranty starts from the date of purchase. Please keep your original receipt in a safe place. This document will be required as proof of purchase. If any material or production fault occurs within three years of the date of purchase of the product, we will either repair or replace the product for you at our discretion. This warranty service is dependent on you presenting the defective appliance and the proof of purchase (receipt) and a short written description of the fault and its time of occurrence. If the defect is covered by the warranty, your product will either be repaired or replaced by us. The repair or replacement of a product does not signify the beginning of a new warranty period. Warranty period and statutory claims for defects The warranty period is not prolonged by repairs effected under the warranty. This also applies to replaced and repaired components. Any damage and defects present at the time of purchase must be reported immediately after unpacking. Repairs carried out after expiry of the warranty period shall be subject to a fee. Scope of the warranty This appliance has been manufactured in accordance with strict quality guidelines and inspected meticulously prior to delivery. The warranty covers material faults or production faults. The warranty does not extend to product parts subject to normal wear and tear or fragile parts such as switches, batteries, baking moulds or parts made of glass. The warranty does not apply if the product has been damaged, improperly used or improperly maintained. The directions in the operating instructions for the product regarding proper use of the product are to be strictly followed. Uses and actions that are discouraged in the operating instructions or which are warned against must be avoided. This product is intended solely for private use and not for commercial purposes. The warranty shall be deemed void in cases of misuse or improper handling, use of force and modifications/repairs which have not been carried out by one of our authorised Service centres.■ 24
