Frequently Asked Questions - Trevi Digital SPIDEM

How to adjust the grind fineness?
Turn the fineness selector (11) located inside the bean hopper while the grinder is running. A smaller number gives a finer grind, a larger number gives a coarser grind. Wait 3-4 coffees to feel the difference.
What to do if coffee does not flow or flows too slowly?
This may be due to too fine a grind. Increase the fineness via the selector (11). If the problem persists, clean the brew group as indicated in section 8.2 of the manual.
How to prepare a cappuccino?
Fill a container with cold milk to 1/3. Direct the steam wand (5) into the milk, open the steam knob (6) and rotate the container from bottom to top to froth. Close the knob after use.
How to descale the machine?
Use a descaling product specially for coffee machines. Pour the solution into the water tank. Activate the program via MENU/OK → DESCALING. Place a container under the steam wand, open the knob and let the program run (approx. 40 min). Then rinse with clean water.
Why does the machine display 'GROUP ABSENT'?
The brew group (14) is not correctly inserted. Open the front door, insert the group pushing until it locks, then close the door.
How to set the machine to turn off automatically?
Press MENU/OK, select TIMER, then set the delay (0 to 12 hours) in 15-minute increments using the arrow keys. The timer resets after each drink.
What to do if steam does not come out?
The steam wand orifice may be blocked. Clean it with a needle after turning off and cooling the machine.
How to adjust the water amount for a cup?
Place a cup under the dispenser. Press and hold the button corresponding to the type of coffee (18, 19 or 20). Release when the desired amount is reached. The setting is saved.
Why is the coffee not hot enough?
Preheat the cups with hot water or by placing them on the cup warmer. Also check the temperature setting in the TEMPERATURE menu (minimum to maximum).
How to clean the brew group?
Turn off and unplug the machine. Open the front door, remove the drip tray and used coffee container, then extract the group by pressing 'PRESS'. Wash it with hot water without detergent. Check the filters, clean the housing, then reassemble.

5.1 Coffee grinder

SPIDEM Trevi Digital - Coffee grinder - 1

Warning! The grinder adjustment knob inside the

coffee container must be turned only while the coffee grinder is operating. Do not introduce ground and/or freeze-dried coffee in the coffee bean container.

Do not introduce any material other than coffee beans. Inside the coffee grinder there are moving parts that may be dangerous; do not place your fingers and/or other objects inside the grinder. Before performing any kind of operation inside the coffee container, switch off the machine and unplug it. Do not introduce coffee beans while the grinder is operating.

The quality and flavor of your coffee will depend not only on the blend you use but also on how finely you grind it. The machine has a knob (11) for adjusting the grind. To adjust the grind, turn the graduated knob while the grinder is operating; the numbers on the knob indicate the fineness of the grind. Every machine is factory-regulated to a medium-sized grind; turn the knob to lower numbers to obtain a coarser grind, turn the knob to higher numbers to obtain a finer grind. The variation in the fineness of the grind will be noted only after three or four coffees have been dispensed.

i Use blends of coffee beans for espresso machines. Avoid using extreme grind settings (e.g. 1-16); in these cases use different blends of coffee. Store coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

You should adjust the grind setting when the coffee is not dispensed properly: Coffee pours out too fast = excessively coarse grind > set knob on a finer grind; Coffee drips out slowly and/or not at all = excessively fine grind > set knob on coarser grind.

5.2 Dose adjustment

27 The machine allows you to adjust the amount of coffee (dose) to be ground according to your requirements. The manufacturer has set a standard dose that satisfies most needs: notch (A) corresponding to the point of reference (B). Turn the knob (12) inside the coffee container counterclockwise to increase the dose of ground coffee; turn it clockwise to reduce the dose of ground coffee.

You must carry out the dose adjustment before pressing the button to dispense coffee. This system makes it possible to achieve optimal coffee making with all types of coffee commercially available.

5.3 Coffee dose per cup

The machine has been programmed for 3 types of coffee: American-style, medium-strength or espresso.

To adapt the programmed amounts to the cup size, place the cup beneath the dispenser, press the button for making the type of coffee desired (18, 19, or 20) and keep it pressed. In the digital field the

message COFFEE PROGR.QUANTITY will appear.

When the cup has been filled to the desired level, release the button.

Important: keep the button (18, 19, or 20) pressed down for the whole duration of the process.

5.4 Single or double shots (1 or 2 cups)

  • When you press the coffee-making button (18, 19, or 20) the machine will prepare one cup of coffee. To make two cups or a double shot of espresso, press the button twice.

  • You may stop dispensing at any time by briefly pressing the same button (18, 19, or 20)

Important: the machine is equipped with an automatic pre-brewing system. The coffee blend is first moistened, the flow of coffee is briefly interrupted, and then the actual brewing process starts; the message

  • Maintenance and cleaning may be

carried out only when the machine is cold and disconnected from the power supply.

  • Do not immerse the machine in water and do not place any of its components in a dishwasher.
  • Do not use sharp objects or aggressive chemical products (solvents) for cleaning.
  • It is recommended that you clean the water container daily; fill the container with fresh drinking water.
  • Clean out the coffee bean container before refilling it.
  • Use a soft cloth moistened with water to clean the machine.
  • Do not dry the machine and/or its components in a microwave and/or conventional oven.

  • 38 without pressing the "PRESS" button and holding the brew group by its handle, fit it back securely into place inside the compartment.

  • Then close the door and set the dump box and drip tray back into place.

9 DESCALING

Scale forms due to mineral content in the water. Descaling is necessary to remove lime scale from all surfaces and holes, thus ensuring a perfect operation of valves, heating controls and other important parts.

Note: due to the complexity of the coffee machine's hydraulic circuit, the following descaling cycles do not allow the descending of tubes.

In fact, easily accessible components such as the brew group (14) and its plastic connection are excluded.

The machine must be descaled every 3-4 months, according to the water hardness degree.

A more frequent descending is recommended wherever the water hardness degree is very high.

In case of hard water, a filter should be used both to improve the coffee quality and to protect the machine, thus reducing the descaling frequency.

SPIDEM Trevi Digital - DESCALING - 1

Note: for this purpose, use a descending product suitable for machines.

Never use vinegar to clean the machine; it might damage it.

To facilitate the above operation, the machine displays a message whenever it needs descending:

DECALCY
READY FOR USE

The machine will continue to dispense coffee, but should be descaled as soon as possible.
