5. Notes
- Rack installation
This amplifier can be mounted in a 19" (483mm) rack that allows access to front and rear panel. Make sure to leave enough space around the device for sufficient ventilation. Note that when mounting in a rack, the heaviest devices should be mounted closest to the bottom.
Also note that it is not enough to mount the amplifier with 4 screws on the front; the rear must also be attached to the side bars of the rack.
- Input cables
Using short cables will improve sound quality as high frequencies are absorbed by the cable. Longer cables may also lead to humming and noise problems. If you do need longer cables, only use balanced cables.
Output cables
The high damping factor of the amplifier produces a clear sound reproduction. Long and thin cables will influence this damping factor and thus the low frequencies in a negative way. To maintain good sound quality, the damping factor should be around 50. When long cables are unavoidable, make sure they are thick enough.
- Speakers
Connect your speakers using the Speakon® or screw outputs. Connect the red terminator with the positive wire and the black terminator with the negative wire.
Ground lift switch
This switch allows the signal ground or chassis ground to be separated in case of a ground conflict. For safety reasons it is recommended to keep the switch in the GND FLOATING position unless ground problems are experienced.
6. Troubleshooting
- The amplifier stops working.
Turn the volume knobs of both channels to zero, switch off the amplifier and disconnect from the mains. Check the front panel, the fuse and all input and output connections. Replace the fuse with a fuse of the same type and ratings.
- No sound when power LED is switched off.
The power supply is not connected or the amplifier has a blown fuse. Check the power connections and switches, or replace the fuse located below the power input.
- No sound when power LED is switched on.
No or low input, or faulty speakers. Check if the input is connected and if the LED shows the presence of a signal. Gently increase the volume level and check the speakers and speaker connections.
Hum or buzz.
Power supply noise is picked up in the signal path or earth problem. Only use good quality, shielded signal cables and ensure they are kept away from the power cables and other AC-powered equipment. Use a mains tester to ensure the mains outlet has a good earth.
Distorted sound.
There is an excessive signal level or damaged signal cables. Check the LED to ensure the input level to the amp is at the correct level. Only use good quality, shielded signal cables and protect them from damage.
Sound cuts out.
The signal cables are damaged or the connectors are not properly inserted. Check all cables and connections.
- Protect LED on
- Check if the amplifier is not overheated. Clean ventilation openings when necessary.
- Check whether the connected speakers have the appropriate impedance. If not, connect speakers with sufficient impedance. Also verify that the speakers are not short-circuited. Inspect the wiring.
- Inputs receive DC voltage or another technical fault condition has occurred. Switch off the amplifier and contact your local dealer for servicing.
7. Maintenance
- Regularly wipe the amplifier with a moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
- Ensure that liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through the ventilation openings.
- Contact your HQPower™ dealer if your amplifier needs servicing.
