Charging process
Before using the appliance for the first time the battery must be fully charged, which will take about 3 hours. The appliance can remain on charge for a longer period without damage or danger, but this should generally be avoided. With a fully charged battery, the appliance can be operated for around 100 minutes.
- As the capacity of the rechargeable battery-pack becomes low, the touch controls () will start fl ashing. The trimmer can now be used for only a few more minutes until the deep-discharge protection device switches the appliance off. Recharging is now necessary.
- Insert the connecting plug of the adaptor into the corresponding jack on the appliance.
- Insert the adaptor itself into a suitable wall socket. The charging process begins
automatically. The touch controls are flashing alternately while the batteries are being recharged.
Once the charging process is complete, the touch controls stay lit. To disconnect the adaptor, always remove it from the wall socket first before taking the jack out of the appliance.
The appliance remains in standby mode for around 10 seconds before it can be switched on again with the touch controls, or switched off with the main power switch (①). (see 'Using the main power switch/touch controls to turn the trimmer on/off').
- While charging, the transformer within the adaptor will become warm. This is perfectly normal and safe and does not indicate a malfunction of any kind.
- If the appliance has not been used for a long period, the capacity of the battery may decrease by a certain amount. However, full capacity will be restored after several charge/discharge cycles.
Mains operation
The appliance may also be used when the adaptor is connected. In this case, use the touch controls to turn the trimmer on and allow the batteries to be briefly charged for approximately 5 minutes, before the trimmer can be operated.
Use
Fitting the push-on combs
- The push-on comb attachments allow for cutting length adjustment from 1 to 40~mm . The range of the cutting lengths is indicated on the inside of each push-on comb.
- When fitting a push-on comb, place it on the silver slide tracks on the sides. To fit one of the variable-length (4-20 or 24-40 mm) push-on combs, the locking buttons must be slightly depressed.
Selecting the cutting length
- With the 4-20 mm and 24-40 mm variable-length push-on combs, the cutting length
can be variably adjusted.
- A scale for the cutting lengths adjustment is indicated on the rear of the trimming head. The arrow markings on the push-on combs correspond with the cutting length on the scale.
- In its lowest position, the cutting length of the 4 - 20mm push-on comb is 4mm , and 24mm on the 24 - 40mm push-on comb.
- Fit the desired push-on comb, select the appropriate cutting length at the rear and release the locking buttons to ensure that the push-on comb locks into place.
- When cutting hair, always start with a longer cutting length and reduce it gradually until the desired length has been reached.
Using the main power switch (①) to turn the trimmer on
Use the main power switch to turn the appliance on. The motor starts running and the touch controls light up.
Using the touch controls (/) to turn the trimmer on/off
- Once the trimmer has been turned on with the main power switch, it may be switched off, or on again, by using the touch controls. By sliding the finger rapidly from ① to ⑦ the trimmer is turned off and remains in standby mode. It can be switched on again by doing the reverse, from ⑨ to ④
- After two minutes in standby mode, the trimmer switches off automatically.
Adjusting the operating speed:
- The operating speed can be adjusted: keeping the touch control pressed decreases the speed, while keeping the touch control pressed increases it. Two short beeps indicate that the min or max speed settings have been reached. The selected setting is saved during standby mode.
Cutting/thinning function
The cutting/thinning selector switch allows
selecting between cutting and thinning of hair. For cutting, select the switch setting 'CUT'. If a trendy short-hair style should require that the hair is thinned by about one third, select the setting 'THIN'. In this mode, always cut the hair against its natural direction of growth.
Operation
Before each use, always put a few drops of acid-free oil between the trimming comb and the blade.
Cutting hair:
- For longer hair, one of the push-on combs provided may be used. We recommend that you start with the large comb.
- Switch the appliance on.
- The hair should first be combed, and then generally cut against its natural direction.
- Always cut from bottom to top with the shaving head lying against the head; lead the appliance upwards through the hair, moving it gradually away from the head at the same time
- For a shaped cut, reverse the appliance and shorten the hair from top to bottom without a push-on comb.
Care and Cleaning
It is essential to switch off the appliance and then remove the adaptor from the wall socket before cleaning and oiling. To avoid the risk of electric shock, the appliance and the adaptor must not be immersed in liquid or allowed to come into any contact with liquid.
- If necessary, the exterior surfaces of the appliance and the adaptor may be wiped with a dry, lint-free cloth.
Trimming comb and trimming blade
-
After each use, use the cleaning brush to remove hair from between the trimming comb and the blade. The trimming head can be removed for cleaning by using the thumbs to push it away and down towards the base.
-
Caution: The trimming comb and blade are very sharp.
Before use, and again after every 15 minutes' operation, put a few drops of acid-free oil between the trimming comb and the trimming blade and then switch the appliance on briefly to ensure that the oil is evenly distributed. Regular oiling will guarantee good cutting performance over a long period and a long service life.
Battery pack disposal
This appliance contains a nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) rechargeable battery pack, which must be removed for disposal. To remove, first disconnect the appliance from the mains. Use a suitable screwdriver to remove the small screw on the rear of the appliance. Then take off the trimming head and remove the two small screws from the metal plate. Use a screwdriver to lift out first the plate, and then the housing element along the silver slide tracks. Remove the two screws above the large circuit-board. Now the whole circuitboard assembly can be lifted out. Cut the three connecting wires one by one, but take special care not to short-circuit the batteries. Lift the batteries up and use a pair of pliers to cut the metal connectors one at a time, again taking care not to cause a short-circuit. Dispose of the batteries properly.

Do not dispose of the rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack in your domestic garbage. All batteries must be disposed of through the proper local
'special garbage collection points'.
Disposal

Do not dispose of old or defective appliances in domestic garbage; this should only be done through public collection points.
