Features

This Duo Coffee-Maker has two separate water passage systems. The features and accessories of your appliance will depend on the model.

General information before use

Scales on the water containers facilitate filling them with the correct amount of clean water. With a dual-scale, the left scale is used for regular-sized cups of approx. 125ml while the right scale is used for smaller cups. Make sure that the indicated maximum is not exceeded.

The hot-plates remain hot until the appliance has been switched off completely (with both switches in their Off-position). If several consecutive brewing cycles are required, switch off the coffee maker after each cycle and let it cool down for approx. 5 minutes.

  • Important note: When filling the appliance with fresh water shortly after a brewing cycle is completed, there is a danger of scalding from hot water or steam escaping through the water outlet.

Before using for the first time

Before making coffee for the first time, let the appliance go through two or three filtration cycles without using ground coffee. This should also be done if the appliance has not been used for an extended period of time, and after descaling.

Making coff ee

-Filling with water:

Open the water container lid, fill the container with the desired quantity of clean, cold water (using the glass carafe) and close the lid.

- Inserting the paper filter:

Open the swing-out filter holder and insert a size-4 paper filter, first folding down the perforated sides of the filter.

- Filling with ground coffee:

For each regular-sized cup (125ml), a measure of about 6g (= 112 - 2 teaspoons) of medium or finely ground coff ee will be required. For smaller cups, about 4g = 1 - 112 teaspoons will be required. Close the swing-out holder aft erwards.

-Preparing the glass carafe:

Make sure to fit the lid onto the glass carafe before placing it onto the hot-plate.

If correctly inserted, the lid will disable the drip-stop mechanism in the swing-out fiiter during the brewing cycle.

- Starting the brewing cycle:

Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet and use the appropriate On/Off switch to turn on the side of the coffe maker to be used. The filtration cycle starts.

- Removing the freshly brewed coffee:

Wait until all the water has passed through the fi lter before removing the carafe from the

- appliance.

- Switching off the coffee maker:

The coff ee may be kept warm inside the carafe by leaving it standing on the hot-plate. The plate stays warm until the appliance is switched off completely (with both switches in their Off-position). Always switch off after use.

Making tea

-Filling with water:

Open the container lid and fill the container with the desired quantity of clean, cold water.

Caution: Do not put in more than max. 7 cups of water. Close the lid.

-Filling with tea leaves:

To load the tea filter, take off its top by turning anti-clockwise, put in the required amount of tea leaves and close again.

Compared with traditional tea-brewing, only a reduced amount of tea leaves should be used, as the yield of the leaves is higher when using this appliance.

- Inserting the tea filter:

Insert a tea filter into the glass carafe.

-Preparing the carafe:

Make sure to fit the lid onto the glass carafe before placing it onto the hot-plate. Keep the swing-out filter closed.

- Starting the brewing cycle:

Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet and use the appropriate On/Off switch to turn on the side of the coffe maker to be used. The filtration cycle starts.

-Removing the freshly brewed tea:

The time the tea is left to stand largely depends on your personal taste as well as on

the type of leaves used. Take the carafe from the hot-plate and carefully lift out the tea filter. The tea filter may be put onto the closed glass carafe to drain off.

- Switching off the coffee maker:

The tea may be kept warm inside the carafe by leaving it standing on the hot-plate. The plate stays warm until the appliance is switched off completely (with both switches in their Off-position). Always switch off after use and remove the plug from the wall socket.

Dscaling

Depending on the water quality (lime content) in your area as well as the frequency of use, all thermal household appliances using hot water need descaling (i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular basis to ensure proper functioning.

A lengthening of the brewing time and increased noise during brewing indicate that descending of the coff ee maker has become necessary.

An excessive build-up of lime deposits is very difficult to remove, even when strong descending agents are used. It may also cause the brewing system to leak. We therefore strongly recommend descending the appliance after each thirty to forty brewing cycles. For descending, a vinegar solution may be used.

We recommend using an environmentally friendly, commercially available descaling agent (eg citric-acid-based) for coffee makers. Prepare around 1 litre of descaling solution following the manufacturer's instructions. You can also use 2 - 3 tablespoons of vinegar in one litre of cold water.

  • Pour the descending solution into the water container, insert a paper filter into the filter holder but without adding any ground coffe as described in section Making coffee, and let the appliance run through one filtration cycle. Repeat the procedure if necessary. During descending, ensure sufficient ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours.

To clean the appliance aft er descending, let - it run through 2-3 ft ltration cycles using clean water only.

General care and cleaning

  • Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has completely cooled down.
  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water and do not immerse it in water.

  • Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.

  • The housing may be wiped with a slightly damp lint-free cloth and a mild household detergent. Wipe thoroughly dry aft erwards.

  • Dispose of the coffee grounds and rinse the filter. As a natural substance, the coffee grounds may be composted.

  • The glass carafe, lid, filter holder and tea filter may be cleaned in soapy water or in a dish-washer.

Power-cord storage compartment

The integrated power-cord storage compartment is used for storing the power cord. The recess at the bottom facilitates limiting the length of the power cord.
